In which song(s) does MJ sound most convincing?

(official, non-posthumous releases)

He always sang with passion and conviction so I would have to say almost every song.

Whatever I sing that's what I really mean kind of thing, right?

The versatility of his voice and his passion for singing is undeniable, but for me he was most convincing when pleading for world harmony in anthems like Earth Song, Heal the world or Man in the mirror OR whenever he expressed his anger at the treatment he received from the media or when he sang about his loneliness.

Otherwise, given his amazing talents the man could have made the recipe for omelette sound like the most sensual process in the universe and could probably become sonically "enraged" or heartbroken because of a perfectly valid soccer penalty shot lol.

All of them. Sounding convincing was his big strength.

I think that ‘Who is it’ should be included in this list.

Speechless!

I agree with pretty much everything else that's said here - Michael was a showman and he worked to evoke emotions in others through his voice. However I don't think there was a lot of "convincing" needed as he was so passionate and dedicated already. There is never a secret about what he was feeling when you hear him sing!

That being said, Speechless immediately comes to mind for some reason. Ballads are easy enough to 'fake' but he really nailed this one on the head.

''I don't sing it unless I mean it''' - Michael Jackson

I think the notion of this thread is a little insulting to Michael as an artist/songwriter/singer. You can literally feel the sincerity pouring out of the guy on about 98% of his back catalogue. If you don't hear that as well then you don't really 'get' Michael Jackson.

The whole reason he 'connected' with the world, universally, is through his sincere, passionate, believable, powerful, convincing vocal delivery. On every song.

every song. Its a quality which Prince doesn't really have or at least show.

I think that MJ felt closer to those dark & meaningful themes so probably it came more naturally to him, although I think he did also an excellent job when he sang (more) cheerful songs.

The notion of this thread is not (a little) insulting to MJ. Sounding (instead of trying to sound) convincing is a valuable & rare skill when an artist tries to sing different (vocally & thematically) styles of songs & especially when these songs are not written by him…

Also, I am really curious about the titles (& reasons) of these songs (2%) that do not fit in this category (assuming you expressed your personal opinion)…
