Michael Jackson's "They Don't Care About Us (Brazil Version)" has now surpassed 500 million views on YouTube.

20:00 - 7. Aug. 2018

Oh look what a surprise. This anti MJ account finally did a tweet about MJ. :scream:

They hardly every do tweets about MJ and his sales. They have done tweets about other artists' album sales. Just yesterday they posted a tweet about sales of Janet's albums, Unbreakable and Janet. That's after posting endless tweets about Janet during her birthday week. Every few weeks, they will post tweets with sales of some 2pac & some Biggie Smalls album, mostly their greatest hits albums. Yet they couldn't do that for MJ. I can't remember the last time, they posted a tweet about Michael Jackson album sales. I thought they would do it on his 9th death anniversary, but they didn't. Now if they don't do it for MJ's 60th birthday, then my suspicion will be confirmed that they are anti MJ.

That's very odd. Wonder why.

Michael is 24th in the world rn on the Spotify artist chart.. Brilliant!

They Don't Care About Us really is the most popular MJ song on youtube right now. It is very close to 500m and it's accumulating views faster than Thriller, so it's only a matter of time before it catches up to Thriller. I believe TDCAU will be the first MJ video to reach 1B views.

TDCAU was my fave MJ track for a long time - there's a particularly good remix with a gospel choir but I forgot what it's called. I remember back in the day when it was a single, Chris Evens on BBC Radio 1 used to play it like once a day on his show and the other crew members made it clear (on air) they didn't want it played. Chris being Chris just said "I like it!" and carried on. It was tough for MJ to get Radio1 airplay in the HIStory era, even for a smash hit like Earth Song. TDCAU reached #4 in the UK charts which was lower than I expected and it didn't hang around long, dropping down the chart very quickly. I'm glad it's appeal has broadened over the years, initially helped by the TII rehearsal footage released by the MJ Estate in 2009 and then because of its use at events and rallies in the USA since. It seems even more relevant now than in 96.

I have wondered whether the MJ Estate should capitalise on its relevance and popularity somehow before it fades but I just don't know how they'd do it.

TDCAU charted in the UK for 3 months, which given the false uproar is fantastic I think.

I don't think so. It wouldn't be a very moral thing to do in my opinion.

Finally it's platinum. It should have been platinum ages ago.

I remember a few months ago, Michael only had like 16-17 million listeners on Spotify. Now he has over 30 million. Looks like the Drake song brought MJ a lot of new fans & listeners.

BTW meanwhile Michael is allready on place 19. with more then 31 Mio. monthly listeners. Just had a look on the Post Melone side. He is on place 11 with more then 38 Mio. monthly streams and has less followers then Michael on Spotify.
Maybe Michael is on the way to break Post Melones "chart records", lol.

Michael's 60th birthday is coming up. If MJ's estate are smart, they would pay Spotify money to have Michael Jackson as the featured artist on 29th August. That would be a perfect way to bring in more fans/listeners and grow his legacy.

People were calling MJ a has-been for years before his death. People still consider him an 80s only artist but the truth is he continues to outperform many of the artists that came before and after him on the most relevant charts today - streaming. 19th is not Top 5 or even Top 10, but it's terrific for an artist who was 'over' and 'irrelevant' after Thriller an album released 35 years ago. Especially considering all the negative press he receives year after year. P.S I'd love for MJ to overtake Post Malone. Not going to happen any time soon, I know that, but it would be good. In a few years when PM is over and done with he will drop down the chart like a stone but MJ will still be there riding high.

Thriller wasn’t certified. Maybe they are waiting for the Halloween season to be over before they get it certified. Anyway, I’m so glad to see Dangerous and History get updated certifications again.

About time, Dangerous and History got re-certified. Their first certification in nearly 20 years. Finally Epic records focusing on MJ's post 80s work.

HIStory's only sold 500k since 1999?!!

Well, it's not an album that is that well known outside of the fanbase. General public and casual fans are always more likely to buy/stream Essential MJ, Number Ones, Thriller or Bad. And lets not forget it's a double disc album, so it is more expensive and that obviously puts a lot of people from buying HIStory.

Latest US Certifications- Singles only

Thriller- 6X Platinum (6,000,000)
Billie Jean- 5X Platinum (5,000,000)
Beat It- 4X Platinum (4,000,000)
Man In The Mirror- 3X Platinum (3,000,000)
DSTYGE- 3X Platinum (3,000,000)
Black or White- 2X (2,000,000)
Smooth Criminal- 2X (2,000,000)
TWYMMF- 2X (2,000,000)
P.Y.T- 2X (2,000,000)
Rock With You- 2X (2,000,000)

With this new update, Michael Jackson now has 10 multi-platinum singles in the US. Prior to today's update, he only had a measly 1 multi-platinum song in his homeland. I've always said that MJ was massively under-certified in the singles department and I'm happy that finally his record company have done something about it.

I reckon in a few years, Thriller can go diamond due to the Halloween effect. That would be so epic. An 80s song going diamond.

Platinum/Gold singles updates

Will You Be There- Platinum (1,000,000)
Remember The Time- Platinum (1,000,000)
Dirty Diana- Platinum (1,000,000)

Human Nature- Platinum (1,000,000)
WBSS- Platinum (1,000,000)

Hold My Hand- Gold (500,000)
They Don't Care About Us- Gold (500,000)
Earth Song- Gold (500,000)
You Rock My World- Gold (500,000)

Nice to see RIAA update some of MJ's sales. Dangerous was long overdue for an increase, as was HIStory. Nice to see both albums at 8x platinum, a very respectable number. Also we should note, these increases along with The Essential increase to 4x platinum has pushed MJ's US RIAA album sales to 84,000,000. This lifts him ahead of Billy Joel to become the 6th most successful act in US history (according to the RIAA). Since Michael's death his sales numbers in the US have surged from 65 million to 84 million due to updated chart certifications and higher sales on a yearly basis.

I was reading on Twitter today and one Sony employee mentioned they are planning a big push for Thriller this October, so my guess is they will wait until February 2019 to re-certify Thriller (exactly 2 years after the last update). I was also told Number Ones will be next , to be certified 5x platinum.

As for the singles, MUCH needed. MJ went from having 1 multi platinum single to 10, a huge improvement. In total, MJ now has 17 songs that have reached platinum or higher in the US. With 47.5 million singles sold in the US, MJ is in 12th place. At first glance it doesn't seem impressive, but when you look at all the other artists on the list you begin to clearly see the single sales chart is heavily dominated by MODERN artists. Out of the top 25 most successful artists for single sales, only THREE are from before 2000..... Elvis (#10) , MJ (#12), and Elton John(#18). The rest are all modern post 2010 artists.

YANA was certified platinum a few months after its release. That was in 1995, so I think it might be eligible for an upgrade. ITC was certified gold a few months after its release. I think it should be eligible for platinum. Jam has never been certified but it might eligible for gold. Although Jam was never a mega hit so I'm not so sure about that.

Thriller has re-entered the Billboard 200 at 135.

The Essential Michael Jackson has fallen to 94.

Interesting. According to HITS, Essential Michael Jackson had total SPS of 13,950 for the last week, which means it was the 32nd best performing album of the week. Now HITS aren’t always accurate with their numbers, but they are usually not that far of. They have been pretty accurate in predicting Essential’s position for the past two months.

The fact that Thriller returned to the charts and Essential dropped to 94 can only mean that some of the streams from the Essential were allocated to Thriller. It must be a response after the Eagles Greatest Hits unfairly surpassed Thriller to become the best certified album in the US.

Weird stuff always happens when both of those albums are on the charts at the same time lol

DMTM still in top 30 after two months (UK) and Number Ones re-enters the Top 40 Album Chart.
