Was there a planned album after 'Invincible'?

After the leaks of Escape and Hold My Hand Michael probably became super careful about his vocals and recorded them as late as possible in the process and kept things on separate harddrives, to reduce the possibilty of another way too early leak.

Michael Prince said that MJ was devastated when "Hold My Hand" leaked because he seriously loved that song, and that thereafter he really didn't record vocals all that often.

I'm paraphrasing, but he said something to the effect of, "MJ realized that instrumentals were basically worthless, because anyone could fake an instrumental. If his vocals were on it then suddenly it became a million-dollar record. So he decided to only record when he felt the song was truly ready, to eliminate the possibility of another song leaking before the world was ready to hear it."

That's really unfortunate..

Nooooo
I understand our desire to hear new music, but it shouldn't be done at the expense of Michael's happiness

Exactly! fans need to understand that some unreleased items won't probably never be release because that's what he wanted. if we do that we would be breaking Michael wishes and choices.

that what Michael wanted and we need to respected.

Though like i said one day this stuff may be release because none of this stuff can't be closed away forever.

Well that might be the right thing to say but Michael is gone now. I for one am a 47 year fan and I have all of MJs music but.... I am hear for NEW music and have waited patiently for a long time for some new tracks. I have tried to support the Estate in their decisions but I am just about to give up hoping and waiting. I not buying Chaulk or $450 box set of shit I already own. I’m certainly not spending thousands of dollar to go to a Vegas to catch a show. The broadway show is priced out of my range as well I’m sure. They have a very small window of time with me or I am checking out. Like I said I have all the tunes. It’s also funny how the young fans view things. Well us old timers have been around for it all good and bad. Release some tracks before we are all gone Estate. You owe us at least 3 to replace the fake ass song you gave us.

I agree. we're all getting older and they need release some tracks etc before we all leave this earth. if we don't see it our kids or grandkids will.

As I remember, Michael was going to release the songs single by single.
He believe album was no longer the only way for musican to share their musics, so probably no album will be come out during This Is It period.

if Michael did have a album after this one it probably was this is it just with an different name. what about the number ones? i know that's not really an new album but that sort of counts does it?

I don't think he ever stopped creating - but how long the planning was for a new album I guess we will never know.

The 2 Seas fiasco - Don't know if he really recorded songs in Dubai? - doubt it.

From the bottom of My Heart? - tha Kathrina charity song? - he did What more Can I give - but that was as a stand alone charity song. - Doubt he would (also) release it on a new album...

So really - I do not think an actual album was planned. I think some songs would have been released during - or in the christmas break of This Is It.

i don't think Michael would of stop creating albums. they claimed when Michael made a album it took him about 2 to 3 years to make. invincible came out 2001 that would of made it 8 to 9 years without an new album release. remember a lot of stuff happen in the early 2000's. maybe Michael was too busy and tired to release an album. i got a feeling he was still creating music just didn't bring out new album because so much was going on during that time.

Michael Jackson was indeed working on music in the 2007-2009 time frame. Unfortunately the closest songs that were complete were Hold My Hand and Best Of Joy. There are about 8-10 other songs that nobody has heard though that are in various stages of completion. I've heard them all, and they are ranging from just instrumentals to half vocally completed. The sketches are there, the melodies are there, and there are some MJ vocals completed. But trust me they are in no way anywhere near complete to MJ's standards.

The sound MJ was going for though was incredible, totally unique and different then anything we've heard from anyone in music. It makes me sad everytime I listen to them because I realize what COULD have been if MJ had of lived another couple years. It was special stuff.

You’ve heard them? Can you tell us more about this special sound? What kind of sound was he going for, what kind of genre etc? I hope you can share more thoughts as I am thinking about it often what would be if he could have the chance to complete it.

Do you know if there is any post-trial song that is complete enough for a release? What about „Adore You“ or „Rocker“? I would be so amazing to hear another song from his final years because I love Hold my Hand and Best of Joy so very much.

There is a evolving answer to this. He for sure planned to release new music, it started off as a concept of a new album to releasing singles for 'single' sales since album sales don't work the same way.

Adore You and Rocker are both not complete. But enough is done to get an idea of where he was going. There are several others as well from this period. These songs would need extensive work for a release. In some cases the vocals are not clear, and verses missing.

Forgetting about those songs though, there are at least 10 more songs from the Bad era that have never been heard that are pretty awesome. Right up there with Free, Im So Blue, Abortion Papers, Fly Away, Streetwalker. Basically finished. Also some awesome songs from Dangerous and HIStory as well that I've heard that are pretty much done. There are some good Invincible cuts that still haven't leaked out.

Judging by the 3 lists of song titles Michael had written and typed up in his Carolwood bedroom I think it’s safe to say Michael was preparing to release an album. I think he was going to release a single or two during the first leg of the tour. Then he would of (my thinking) rehearsed and added a few brand new songs to the set list while completing and releasing the album during his 3 month break before the 2nd leg of the tour.

WISHFUL THINKING!!!

i still don't get, how those RedOne tracks never got a proper release after 10 years.
weren't they in a releaseable state?

MJs work in his last years is the most interesting and mysterious one for me.

maybe they in the vault or someone else has them but never release them due his death. they should have if he gonna go ahead and release them anyway.

i take back what i said. no that wouldn't work because the album wasn't done so this is understandable. though i know some fans would want those singles anyway. Michael was type man who didn't want anyone hearing his music until it was done. like someone just said he was very hurt when hold my hand was leaked.

yeah. if all that stuff in the vault is undone things we should leave them alone. Michael would be very upset and hurt and doesn't matter if he not with us anymore it's about having respect for him.

I just hope that there is at least one more song from 2005-2009 that is vocally complete and could be released...

Probably. that's only if Michael want it to be release.... though if the songs was done when he passed he was gonna release them anyway so.... i guess it wouldn't hurt?.

i think there's nothing bad about releasing unfinished work.
we all wanna hear his voice again on some 'fresh' cuts, no matter how finished it is.

i understand what you mean. but how would you guys feel if i came into your house and took something that's not mine? samething goes for Michael even though he not with us anymore.

that's what he want it.

He is not here with us anymore. He once said that he wanted to live forever. His fans are everything to him...

I have no idea if those idea's MJ was working on in the final years will ever become public. I can tell you this though, the sound is totally unique and different than anything we have ever heard from Michael. A total new direction. I was insanely impressed, this guy is a total genius and there is one song I heard from 08-09 that easily could have been a #1 hit if only it was completed.

That's the sad thing about this.... nothing is finished. Various stages of completion from 10-20% to about 80%. Some songs have verses, others just a chorus, some have mumbling, others are just music. Production is out of this world though. I truly believe if MJ had of lived another 2 years and completed his London gig, these songs would have been finished. In fact I know they would have, the guy who has all these songs confirmed that to me. It was MJ's plan to finish them in London.
