Custom avatars?

So I see some users has their own avatar, and the option is there to upload my own when I go to settings. But when I try to upload one it just says "Invalid File". I've tried with several different pictures, but it doesn't work?
 
Ignore that option. You can't upload any images to the forum.
 
Like I said, some users has their own (custom) avatar? How did they get that then?

No one has a custom avatar, as far as we are aware. For the large avatar, MJJC Patrons have "Who's Bad", Gaz has Thriller (werewolf), Moderators have Billie Jean (bow tie), Proud Members have Remember the Time and Junior Members have the rabbit from Speed Demon.

If you are referring to the small image/avatar that is below the achievements bar and above the join date, what you do is go to your settings, click on "Edit Avatar" from the settings menu on the left hand side. There are quite a few generic avatars to choose from - you can select one of those to have as your small avatar pic and then save the changes. If you select "use custom avatar" and attempt to upload one from your computer or from another website, you must ensure that it is the correct size. It will only accept 100x100 pixels, or 48.8 kb (whichever is smaller). You may be getting an "invalid file" message because the image you're trying to use is too large. Give that a try and see how you go.

It's also possible that the forum won't accept any custom avatars now, since the last couple of remodels. I think I have tried to change mine, in recent times and have been unsuccessful, even though I was using an image that was the correct size. It's my theory that the people who still have them (like myself, for example) have had them for a long time and they have remained there throughout the remodels, but cannot be changed now.
 
i'm not even using custom avatar. so this means we can't never change our avatars to customs? because if so that kind of sucks.
 
Gaz has told me before that members can't upload avatars or any other images to the forum anymore. The site already requires a massive and very costly server space, so allowing users to add images to it as well isn't possible. The people with custom avatars still have them left over from way back in the day.
 
Does anyone even like the RTT avatar.....?

I mean, I appreciate someone took some time to create these avatars, but what was wrong with just using a normal(ish) pic of Michael's Face?

Memeber badges are about identity in a specific group within the board, they tend to have colours that represent that group, junior being grey means your not a full member, general member is orange a more warmer colour as you are participating more, mine is red as founder and owner and so on, I've adapted the artworks to be more Michael themed so they are less boring than just a coloured bar with 'staff' or 'member' written in it. Outside of that you can always add a Michael one which is below as you can see with you SC one.
