I'm trying to find as many things that are in true 4K and not some AI Upscale
So far i've found 3 videos
The Man in the Mirror concert from Moonwalker
Smooth Criminal
History Teaser (not the full thing though)

If anyone knows of more, please add

If you find my remaster of Ghosts it's not "AI upscaled", but it's definitely "upscaled". (Worked very well on some shots but some just lack resolution like they have been zoomed in the initial film editing).

I'm not aware of any actual MJ 4K content apart from Pitou's restoration project.

I'm wondering: I think I heard that in an interview of Prince (MJ's son) that they planned to play Ghosts during their Halloween party. Any idea if that was a restored version or something?

No Way!

How come? there are plenty of prints of moonwalker out there, and the image looks surprisingly good if it's A.I

Damn, even I got fooled
I think those are also upscales from the DVD. The aspect ratio is different in Moonwalker Blu-Ray.

Thriller 3D is only Michael Jackson video in 4K right now but they haven't released it. There is trailer on Youtube but sadly they uploaded it only in 1080p:

Omg the comments on there....I hate the estate!

I really like this one:
Just imagine Michael eating his popcorn in this insane quality.

Though it's great quality I see some flaws... The texts look weird, I don't really know I guess it's post-processing over post-processing when uploading the trailer to YouTube... Or maybe, the thing was edited in 4K but the texts were not set to 4K resolution.
The moment when camera becomes sharp/focused on Michael's face after short travelling around 00:46 is disturbing... But I guess... maybe even pros can't do better out of the old images... And not true 4K resolution here and there.
Still, I'm just nitpicking... It would be so much better than the DVDs.

It's funny that the title of this thread says "REAL Michael Jackson 4K Content", but the first two videos are just upscaled from Moonwalker DVD (480p).

Just AI-sharpened to look "4K", but actually 480p.

No 4K print exists. We have the 1080 Blu-Ray which is edited
I'm sure there are film prints but fans might not have them. Maybe some collector has one.

I wonder if they will ever release Thriller and other short films on 4K Blu-Ray? Normal Blu-Ray is more likely but a 4K release would be great too.

not from the 480p dvd, no dvd video upscaled looks that good

pretty sure its a scan of the film then re framed

but why would it be a 1080p scan upscaled?
The uploader says this in the comments:

"And no, before any one comments, this is not from the obviously cropped 16:9 2010 Blu-Ray."

"Well, making it "4K" is now pretty easy, given all the new AI technology that is easily accessible to our fingertips. What usually makes these go further is the manual work that goes afterwards, such as colour grading, artificial defocusing, potential special fx, film grain, etc, all to make it seem as authentic and filmic as possible, as simple AI upscaling can make videos seem a bit plasticy from experience, but it all depends on the video used! ~ R"

Yeah obviously that’s what I mean. They could scan it in 4K but it doesn’t exist in public domain. At this stage if they do release the short films id hope they choose 4K.

The first video is an upscale from the 1080P Blu-ray disc Moonwalker.

The second one is a 4K scan/restoration but from a 35mm print and not the original camera negative, so the actual resolution may be way lower than 4K in reality. It looks very good, but a restoration from the OCN will look even better.

The third one is interesting, we will have to wait and see.

On this date, the only native 4K content is Thriller restored by John Landis, which has been released in few theater in 2017/2018, it was awesome and looked like if it was shot yesterday, but never released publicly unfortunately...

I hope they release Moonwalker on 4K Blu-Ray with HDR. It was probably scanned in 4K for the Blu-Ray.

So i was right, this isn't an upscale

It was only shown for the first week before the Jack Black movie The House With A Clock In Its Walls. It was only the IMAX version of the movie, not any other version. There's not that many IMAX screens in the US and they're primarily in larger cities, not theaters in smaller towns or rural areas. So I don't think that many people saw Thriller 3D.

Wrong. Both are just AI upscales of 480p Moonwalker DVD.

Here are screenshots of simple & regular (none-AI) processed upscales Moonwalker DVD:

The 4K/3D restoration was shown for the first time in 2017 at Venice Festival, and after that in Paris at Le Grand Rex, I was there. There are some articles about it:

And yes It was indeed shown the year after in IMAX theaters only, which have specific screen sizes and speakers.

I find the 4K Smooth Criminal very noisy/grainy, I wouldn't think it comes from a Blu-ray as well...

If it was shot on film, it's supposed to have grain. If not, then it's been degrained like on the upcoming Beatles' Get Back on Disney+. Which makes people look like wax figures. Film isn't going to look like a modern digital shot movie/TV show. There is different quality in film stock though, so some older movies will have more grain than others.

I know what you're talking about from doing a lot of portrait photography in non-necessarily well lit environments. But I think with the right algorithm, there must be a better possible version somewhere between these two screenshots. (It also looks like colors temperature changed for some reason.) (which is a reason why I did my restoration of Ghosts after seeing many others which I considered "overprocessed"... I'm curious to do some tests/comparisons with Smooth Criminal, ... but probabably won't have time for it)
