From memory:
- on both songs lyrics & composition are identical
- 1978 version is not synthesized
- on the 1978 version some words are pronounced differently than on History.
 
Mariah Carey's Estate remastering his 90's videos in 4K, which I suppose were originally edited on tape just like everyone else's music vids. This goes to those saying it is impossible to remaster videos edited on tape.

Be paitent, they've promised us some 4k videos as part of the T40 celebration. They might come next year and not in November, but they'll eventually be released.

Not really her Estate since she's not dead. It's her management/record label.

These are artificial upscales.

This looks pretty mediocre in my opinion. Very clearly an artificial upscale. Not saying it shouldn’t/couldn’t be done with MJ’s videos, but we should probably aim for a higher result than this.

Not artificial. I did a quick research and before this 4K video they had the artificial upscale, clearly SD sourced. This is a different true HD source. Stop defending the Estate.

Where did I do that? lol I’m saying that I’d hope the estate would do a better job than this for Michael’s videos, because this doesn’t look very good imo.
 
Looks pretty decent for what it is (clear enough), but don't think it's an actual HD source.

no clue what everyone is saying with "clearly upscaled", that was 100 percent a HD source before they edited it.

are the billie jean 16mm film tapes lost? the reason to why i ask is because in Moonwalker, Michael uses a copy of the vhs tape in the montage instead of rescanning the film, which he did for every other clip apart from the videos for the off the wall songs (because they were recorded on tape).

Wrong. Use YouTube page directly. They NEVER go for 4K using AI. When they do those crappy artificial upscales they make em 1080p. This is 4K. Do some research.

THESE look outstanding. This is the baseline the Estate should give us for any 4K remasters. Anything less in shameful.

The few clips of Thriller 4K that were released look remarkable, so hopefully that’s what the standard is!
 
I'm pretty sure you can't fairly compare a 4K remaster (upscale) of a SD tape source (Mariah's) to a 4K remaster of a 16mm/35mm source scanned in 4K (Roxette's and Rick's).
If the Estate ends up fulfilling the idea of presenting remasters, they'll be sourced from the original 16mm/35mm reels.
 
regarding chicago 1945...

why is everyone hoping for that?? wasn't it a bad-album outtake? they would not put that on thriller 40.

regarding 4k material...

they didn't promise us 4K stuff for T40 but they definitely made clear that they gonna release something BUT
they also said in 2017 that Thriller 4K will be released on bluray in 2018 and that Ghosts will also get a 4K 3D screening,,
and nothing happened.. so even if they promised anything doesn't mean they will actually do that.
