Hot topic What unreleased demos and remixes do you think will be on Thriller 40 Disc 2?

Let’s not forget that he also writes about Got The Hots but is actually referring to Hot Street, at one point, when talking about how much Michael loved that track.
Sloppy writing. I met him once at a seminar with Brad.

The only reason for any posthumous release for any artist is money. Regardless of the respective estate, the number one priority is always how much they can make from fans who are willing to buy it.

XSCAPE was designed to bleed money from newer fans by appealing to the contemporary music market. Bad 25 was aimed at the hardcore fans. This Is It was for both. Rinse and repeat.

Let’s not pretend like any estate ever does anything solely for the passion towards the artist. Money makes the world go ‘round.
Yes, but other Estates want fans’ money by giving fans what they want. For instance, Elvis’ Estate is just as money-hungry as MJ’s, but they know fans will only shell out for quality, unreleased product, so they release box sets and outtakes and a ton of unreleased material. They’re basically releasing EVERYTHING Elvis ever sang or recorded.

Other legacy acts are doing the same thing. Basically they’re emptying the vaults and fans are only too happy to pay to get all of those nuggets. Paul McCartney has been releasing deluxe editions of ALL of his albums, even the obscure, forgotten ones, and every one comes with a book of photos, liner notes, interviews, plus everything he has in his vaults from the sessions.

But MJ’s Estate, they’re re-releasing Thriller with two extra demos. Let that sink in : we’ll probably get no more extra, unheard material on this than we did on the lame This is It soundtrack that was rush-released to cash in on the movie.

So, the issue is that the estate isn’t willing to empty an already-limited vault? And you’re upset over a track listing that you don’t yet have in full? I also want to hear more, but I’d rather them stagger things than blow it all on a single release. It’s called forethought.

Let's not forget the product will be made for bigger audience, not for the niche fans, therefore quality songs that are released go before in completed demos, that's why they probably put lot of stuff which we have already

so there wont be space for hot street AND Niteline.. how can they miss the chance to release those now?
Because of:
Carousel
CGOTR
Starlight
(not fitting the outtakes concept)

and why don't they add ALL Thriller related Songs that have previously been released including: for all time and someone in the dark? they could simply add all of those on 14 or more Tracks CD. its such a mess :D

Anyway, I am looking forward to the few unreleased tracks that are announced but this project for CD2 seems so unfinished and not thought-through!

I honestly think we will get only one and not both of those: HotStreet / Nite line. So they keep one for another release.. oh man, seriously? Thats weird for such widely known unreleased tracks within the community

lets see if at least one more totally unheard Track will be released.

It is overreacting imo you and nobody else has ever heard the vocals and music for the toy and we have never heard the original music track for behind the mask either (I assume the vocals will be the same as on "Michael"). So it is 2,5 new tracks :p
Key sentence “truly unheard”.
I kind of wish they'd just announced the tracklist completely, I had this idea of announcing a track a week, around the release of the Xscape album, but honestly when we've not only heard most of the songs on Disc 2, but some have been officially released, it just comes across as scraping the barrel and largely a disappointment every week.

I'm trying to stay positive with Thriller 40, but releasing already released songs as "rarities" is annoying. I'm fine with them releasing leaked tracks, it has to happen at some point, but come on Sunset Driver.

It might be aimed at general audiences, but the Estate will rely on us fans to buy the album, up to now most of us are buying this for 3 tracks.

I apologise for the rant, but it's tough to remain constantly upbeat about songs we know extremely well
well put my friend. I feel the same

The most obvious reason why they hold on to other outtakes is THRILLER 50.
Which would have been best if they did just wait for that.
THRILLER 50 after Thriller25.

They also may hold on to the strongest outtakes because of a new album of unreleased material.
Which I think is good & reasonable. They just should have scrapped Thriller40. Wait with the anniversary for the 50th. Give us a Halloween Special this year, with a Film release of Making Of Thriller 4K & Ghosts 4K.
And the new album for Christmas.
Or they could have celebrated MJ‘s 50 solo years, last year!
But Thriller 40, to me was always odd!

The argument I read multiple times in this thread, that they are going for the most comprehensive Thriller Collection with this release is out the window.
Comprehensive does no mean putting OTW & pre OTW era tracks on the album.
And it does not mean leaving out songs, that definitely belong to the Thriller era (like Someone In The Dark).
Comprehensive also does not mean keeping tracks under wraps for a future, bigger anniversary release.

There's no hint for Starlight being on cd#2 so far.

I kinda agree...and just as they didnt release the best outtakes and only 6 titles on Bad25
IMO 3 of the unreleased songs on Bad25 was just ok...nothing more.
(loved the other 3 though)

Who does that?
Queen Productions.
A deluxe boxset of their second-to-last album with Freddie, The Miracle, is due to release 18/11 (same day as Thriller 40) containing 6 unheard demos. One of them has been released yesterday as a single. The pitch-correction on Freddie's vocals is completely unsettling.
They've been doing this for basically all their releases over the last 10 years.

I don't understand releasing Thriller 40 if they're thinking ahead for Thriller 50. Surely they'd just wait?

What are they going to do for Thriller 50? Release Cheater as unreleased "rarity" because it was written by MJ and Greg Phillinganes, and they both worked on Thriller, so it's an outtake from Thriller by the Sunset Driver logic

Then they'll make another documentary about Thriller, were we'll hear how the first mix sounded terrible, Rod wrote the Thriller rap in the taxi on the way to the studio and how there was a knock at the door before Van Halen's guitar solo on Beat It.

Meanwhile we still don't have the background/origins of tracks from Dangerous, HIStory, BOTD and Invincible

With SD now being released on T40 it's quite odd that Cheater was treated like an orphan and not included on Bad25.

Forethought? I might drop dead tomorrow. I want them to release everything over a ten-year period, so we get a chance to hear it all before we all croak. Then they can make money from their circus shows and broadway plays, for people who enjoy that sort of things.

It doesn't seem like there's an era pinned for Hot Fun In The Summertime, the demo was found after MJ's death at the Marvin's Room Studio.
Who have informations about hot fun in summertime's
The song is a cover of Sly's Hot Fun In The Summertime and although John Branca and L.A Reid claim only the chorus was recorded I guess it is completed since it actually has verses, chorus and ad-libs recorded by Michael. It was remixed for the Xscape album of which D’Angelo, Questlove, Mary J. Blige, Eric Leeds, Pino Palladino and Jesse Johnson participated on (Mary J. Blige doesn't sing on the song much though).

Casey Rain has heard the song twice, if you have any more questions you should ask him on Twitter https://twitter.com/CaseyRain

So much confusion lol. You'd think that we'd just be able to get correct answers when people who have heard the song describe it lol.

Happy or not this release is very important. Doing nothing is no option, waiting for the 50th anniversary is a long time. By then MJ could be completely forgotten. Thriller 40 remains the safest option to get attention.
Who knows if the world as we know it will even exist after 10 years! Estate! if you are listening, please don't hold good things for some futuristic 50th anniversary!!

I thought that the general consensus was to not trust John Branca when it came to unreleased music lmao, the same person who claimed that there were only 2 complete songs after MJ died and who still swears that there's nothing in the vault. Alright that his focus isn't on unreleased songs but don't just straight up lie to the fans.
