Thriller 40th Anniversary

Seems weird if The Estate would not want SONY to promote T40? - It makes absolutely no sense at all.
It is only because it comes directly from mkgenie I tend to believe it. But What on earth can the motivation from The Estate be to not promote the hell out a MJ product? - They make more money the more it sells?!? - I can see no reason for The Estate to block SONY's promotion??

2 new videos for songs that never had a video before - in 4K it seems. Very very interesting.

Was the studio footage of The Girl Is Mine filmed at tape or? - Would it be possible to make that into 4K?

I think the songs that will get a video is WBSS and TGIM.

Yes - the videos have - THANK GOD - been done great so far. Both Thriller and Beat It looks stunning and the colours are great. Everything done to A+

So I really hope the last 3 videos will be just as good. - I hope for studio footage. Never before seen footage. And not just some random montage video...

BUT - WHEN do you think the videos will be released? - All at the same time tomorrow? Or will they spread it out, 1 videos each week over the next 5 weeks to keep promotion (even though it seems like they do not want SONY to promote T40??) going and keep hype going for T40 for 5 weeks.

I am so looking forward to these videos - especially after seeing the beauty they did with Thriller and Beat It

The new videos could be very cheaply made. They might even be just lyric videos.
 
So by tomorrow all 5 videos will have been put online (on YT)?
- Thriller 4k
- Beat it 4k
- Billie Jean HD/4k?!
- New video (footage) - Song A
- New video (footage) - Song B

This whole campaign is strange without providing teasers or any other type of promo. It does not even require much budget if social media posts are done without extra money involved. It seems like it lacks of resources incl. time and human resources seen from a big company perspective.

Exactly. If I step back, it sounds like a good Anniversary release. Couple of new songs, couple of demos, at least 2 4K video releases that are very good, maybe more videos. But radio silences for promotion has me totally confused. Maybe Estate thinks they will sell themselves!!

oh no, we have those lyrics videos. I want some real video footage either from performance or studio recordings. Is it too much to ask!!

That is not what I meant. In fact, I understand why they do not want to put much money into such niche product addition for a small target group, speaking the MJ fan base. However, I do NOT understand why there is a lack of simple cheap Social Media posts or Youtube teasers that only require some time resources, and hardly an money.

What I want to say is, it is crazy that even the main target group (us fans) do not know what exactly we should be excited about, as no excitement is built up. I am now speaking especially related to the Music Video remastering. The song promotion is a different topic, where it only seemed to lack of the production/mastering of the songs.

We know 3 more videos are coming. I don't think its going to happen tomorrow though. I remember reading earlier in this thread that a 'series' of releases are planned. That said, completely with you that we are not going to get any teaser, so no excitement built up. They will just silently replace the old videos with new. Think of it as a treasure hunt!

It appears that the 'The Girl Is Mine’ studio footage is going to be included on the upcoming 'Thriller' documentary.

The reason is that this documentary is being advertised as a documentary that features never-before-seen studio footage.

Note also that this documentary is a making-of type of documentary about Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' album.

Also, the 'The Girl Is Mine’ song and its studio footage apparently are going to be the starting point of that documentary, considering how this particular song (as the lead single) paved the way for the big success and impact of the 'Thriller' album.

For whatever reason, the MJ fandom has engraved in their minds that "SoNy Is BaD", just because of some misunderstandings Michael had with Tommy back then. And it wasn't even unilateral, both parties were wrong. Just because Michael said something at some point doesn't make it true. He had his flaws as well.

Fans just propagate this further and every mistake the Estate makes is blamed on Sony. As long as the Estate has full creative control over the releases (which they pretty much have), Sony is just distributing. So blame them for CDs being late.

Open your eyes people, it's been 20 years since then, it's not even the same management. While we have the same Branca in this position for quite a while.

The rumour for a while has been that Sony suggest things & ideas to the Estate often, who turn everything down. But, just a rumour.
 
Thriller was released november 30th.

Why is T40 not released on November 30th ? - is there anything special about november 18th? Or is it just a coincedence and close enough?
I do not care about the date, just curious if there are any thoughts behind the date.
 
I am looking forward to the Thriller documentary. Especially if it goes more into detail about the making of the album and studio footage etc. are used. There must be a lot behind the scenes from the making of BJ, Beat It and Thriller - but also rehearsals for Motown 25 etc.

I hope we get a lot of never before seen footage.

I've been thinking the same thing for weeks. It doesn't matter but it kind of intrigues me. They didn't go for a Halloween release - which I'm fine with - but they didn't go for the official 40th anniversary date, either. It's just a bit odd.
 
We should boycott this and the upcoming biopic. We all know it's going to be shit anyway
 
Is Branca going to be at any of the documentary screenings? Someone should confront him about the way he is running the estate. He's been getting away with this shit for far too long.

but Sony should have tried to clean Starlight up in the mastering or pressing process etc surely?

it's like they didn't bother.. they have to take some blame!

Maybe we could write a group letter, with some purposeful questions, find a way to deliver it but also widely publicise it so all the fans await the response.
