Thriller 40th Anniversary

Did anyone get their MoFi/SACD?
I did a few days ago, and I love the job they did! This was my first SACD after hearing about the medium for years, so I finally bought a player and was blown away by the separation of the aspects of the songs, all the instruments and vocals really "breathe" better, as opposed to having some places where things can sound a bit muddy on previous versions. Prior to buying the T40 SACD I was under the impression all SACDs were more along the lines of a 5.1 surround mix like a DVD-A release, but I quickly educated myself on the topic, especially how MoFi are kind of more known for their amazing stereo mixes instead of full on multi speaker presentations. The stereo mix actually sounded like surround sound at times!

I also grabbed the MoFi vinyl which I haven't had a chance to sit and really absorb yet, but I'm looking forward to it when I have a bit of uninterrupted time.

I think if MJ was alive, he would sign off on most things. He was, an entertainer, and wanted to encompass all entertainment. He hoped to do filming/directing, and things like Marvel was in his worldview. If the guy decided to star in Miss Castaway then he'd definitely do something like a casino.

I think the bigger question is why, and what is the moral ethics of supporting a horrible practice like gambling. But that's a lot deeper a question.

All I know is MJ had a larger worldview than simply singing/dancing for his whole life. And that could've meant things like this.

I read somewhere that the One-Step vinyl and SACD purchases don’t count unless they’re shipped during the tracking period. Who knows how many thousands of sales Thriller lost because of the shipping delays?

Don’t get me wrong, #7 is outstanding for a 40 year old album, and is a huge success. But it sucks that the totality of the sales weren’t applied.

Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ Returns To Billboard Top 10 After 38 Years

Michael Jackson’s album Thriller continues to reach unprecedented levels of success decades after its initial release. The acclaimed work landed in the top 10 on Billboard‘s 200 chart, dated Dec. 3rd. Thriller catapulted from No. 115 to No. 7 following its 40th-anniversary reissue released on Nov. 18...

That’s not the point. It’s a commercially released album legally owned by Sony. Posting material like that could get the site taken down.
Well hell...Wouldn't that go for leaked songs, multitracks & etc that we share here as well. We are not supposed have any of that stuff. When t40 leaks dropped...this was the 1st place so...idk what you're making of this 1

Leaked songs/multitracks and a finished album that you can buy at any digital or physical store are entirely separate things. T40 leaks weren’t permitted here; admins even encouraged us to not share them in our inboxes.

Someone have a rip of the new MOFI SACD?
Not allowed here, its commercially released, so its under copyright as people explained. Don't do that in private messages either.

"20. Requesting or posting links to illegal downloads of material that is copyrighted; they are not permitted anywhere on MJJC. This includes using MJJCommunity’s private messaging (PM) function for that purpose and can incur an instant ban of your account."

If its not officially released, its not yet under copyright, that's what Gaz told me, I can't claim to understand all details of copyright rules. Good way is to check Youtube to see if there is a copyright claim on the material.

Gotcha. Makes since

I'm surprised that T40 wasn't a flop given how the Estate refused to promote it. I'm really happy that's the case though since that means we can get more albums in the future, Bad 40 and a new studio album is an absolute dream of mine.
Maybe it is a flop, depends on a lot more than a 1 week chart position. Next week it will drop off most charts probably. If bad 25 is deemed a flop then so will T40.

T40 was a 2-disc set with limited promotion that reached the top 10. B25 had several configurations, three remixes by high-profile producers, a Pepsi deal, and a release party featuring performances by Ne-Yo and others, and it didn’t even reach the top 20.

T40 is gonna plummet next week because that’s the nature of reissues, but it’s not nearly the underperformance B25 was.

Didn't know any of this.

Good to know.

This will probably teach the Estate to do the bare minimum for reissues then lol. Better than no new releases I guess.
