Best of Joy - Original Version

A prospective duets album would be as divisive as any other project the estate could do, even if they chose the best possible artists.
I wouldn't even say it's divisive, the reaction would be simply lukewarm completely. Unless the music and singing is just truly good they would have a lot of talk against it.

The old 2010 mixes of STTR, DYKWYCA, and SWLM probably
Its late and im tied but SWLM?
Anyway the first 2 is amazing and I wish we had them in lossless quality….the mp3 leaks are ok,much better than nothing.
Especially DYKWYCA sounds like a low bitrate mp3 leak….if it was real 320 kbps the sound should have been better imo
Blue Gangsta mp3 leak had awsome sound in comparison.
As for the topic I have never cared for the BOJ song….or now the new version.

And then we ended up with Timbalands crap version on Xscape... Worst posthumous song released IMO. - The production is 100 % off and sounds nothing like anything I imagine MJ would release... - So sad they did not release McClains version.

McClain has made some of the best mixes of MJ's posthumously released songs IMO. - very true to MJ's vision I think.
Agree 100% Hess….I could have written this myself.
I think DYKWYCA 2010 leak mix is something MJ himself would be proud of.
In fact when I first heard it I though it was a Dangerous final mix outtake.
The demo is ok but it pales compared to the 2010 mix and for that reason I simply dont play it….kinda wish I heard the demo first.

It's 320kbps yeah. I agree that the file does sound a bit low fidelity when compared to others though.

If they made an album with Timbaland, Teddy Riley and John McCain as the producers it would be without a doubt one of the albums of all time.

Seriously though, All of the songs they've worked on is a lot better than the demos. For example, John McCain improved the Paul Anka tracks and Behind The Mask in every way. Teddy Riley improved Hollywood Tonight (Neff-U's remix is my favorite version but the demo is still bland compared to Teddy's mix) and the Cascio Tracks. Timbaland actually made Blue Gangsta and Chicago listenable. With the 3 together in 1 project it would be really hard to be a flop.

Yeah, authenticity aside, Teddy did a damn great job with the Cascio tracks. He overstepped with “Hollywood Tonight,” but even then there was still a lot to enjoy about it.

I don’t think Timbaland should be a main producer on any future albums. As much as I love his work, his attitude towards MJ’s music (refusing to listen to the original tracks because they’d “throw him off”) is immensely disrespectful. Keep Teddy and John McClain, bring Neff-U back to the table, and have Timbaland do a few B-side and deluxe-exclusive remixes like he did in the 1990s and 2000s. I think that would result in the best, most authentic posthumous album to date.

I almost agree but Imo Neff-U dropped the ball really hard with his TWYLM remix, that's about the only thing that's stopping him from being amongst one of the best producers to have worked for the Estate.

What is this supposed to mean? Chicago? Ok sure, Blue Gangsta though? Hell nah
I am sorry, everyone's got their own opinion but gawdamn that's a weird ass take :p

I love his remix of TWYLM! Not as good as the original but there’s still a lot to love. And even then, his take of “Best of Joy” elevated an otherwise forgettable song to something ethereal. That alone gives me the utmost confidence in him.

John McCain and ironically enough Teddy Riley are the best producers to have worked for the Estate (take Hollywood Tonight, Breaking News and Monster for example, Teddy/s remixes are significantly better than the demos). Hopefully they'll be back for the next album.

I have to strongly disagree with Teddy. I think he absolutely crucified Hollywood Tonight. It has the most awful vocal processing on any MJ song, to the point where some fans were even doubting the authenticity of the vocals on that song too until the demo came out. Also in signature Teddy fashion, anything in the instrumental that isn't drums or bass is pushed back so far that many elements can barely be heard. Despite the rough stage that it's in, I still think the bridge section that Brad Buxer did in the original demo is much better than any subsequent revision. I properly feel the impact of the build-up in his arrangement, all the others just feel very flat from start to finish with a much less rewarding payoff.

Dude I'm sorry but I think that the original version is bad lmao, it's bland, the violin on the song sounds out of place and the horns at the beginning and the end are annoying. The 2001 version is better but I still prefer the 2014 remix anytime.

I adore the original “Blue Gangsta” and can’t believe MJ didn’t take it further. The Timbaland cut in my opinion is severely underwhelming. It’s got great verses and an awesome bridge, and the use of strings is brilliant, but the chorus transforms it into this generic, flavorless trap rhythm that cuts the energy and mystique in half.

Timbaland did, imo, save “Chicago” and “Love Never Felt So Good” from mediocrity though. His takes on “Slave to the Rhythm” and “Loving You” are also fantastic.

Blue Gangsta should have gone harder with the whole brass section, it has a unique sound.

@ChanceToDance what violin are you talking about? don't you mean accordion?

I trust Teddy to bring the magic when he produces Mike's demos. I think he knows what Michael wanted more than most producers

My dream team would be, Teddy Riley, John McClain and Dr Freeze.
I'd definitely consult Brad Buxer, Michael Prince and Matt Forger for info on the tracks
