Why the lip-synching?

MJ really should have considered just re-recording the vocals to the songs if he really could not sing live since even if he is lipysynching, at least the audience would be able to hear new vocals and not the vocals from the albums they've heard before.
That didn't happen until 2001, and only for MSG broadcasts.

I personally never heard the bit where he sings the lost children,
You mean where he's singing to Prince and Paris? That's one of my fave vids of him and his kids. I don't watch it very often but it's lovely. One thing I love in that vid is his finger snaps. Reminds me of the interview clip from Marsha Ambrosius where she talks about his "giant hands ... his finger snaps were like a drum machine". Something like that. His finger snaps in this video are really strong! I can see what she means, lol.

that was an awesome discovery
The new bit for me was the DSTYGE from TII. I'm guessing that's one of the extra bits. I don't remember that being in the film. It was fabulous. Whoever put that vid together, I'm so glad they included TII I'll Be There. I did vote in your little poll for Michael to dump the J5 medley as he always did it - keep the medley but use some different songs! - but that TII version? Absolutely love it.

The other new bit for me was the WMA 2006 bc it looked like it was from a different angle than I'm used to. The first ten seconds or so, that looked different to me. Really enjoyed that.

That's a heart-wrenching little video. TII is a tearful experience but I'm glad you posted this vid. Lovely.

Of course, but I am just imagining how better it would have been if Michael did so on his tours. In fact, I am imagining how awesome it would have been if Michael even re-recorded for the Dangerous Tour. His vocals in those rehearsal tapes are just exciting!
I would love any new taped concerts to be overdubbed with rehearsal vocals or anything equivalent, like MJ singing under the lip sync. That'd be great.

Same. Really his determination just shines when he sings over playback, like in Black or White in Wembley 1992 and They Don't Care About us in Lyon 1997. I just get a sense he is really feeling the music and the stage when he sings live when there is playback and not expected.

i love Michael as a person, and if singing live was hard for him, made his condition worse and would have be burden for him, than I am happy that he did lip-synching.
he had voice, he was talented, he could sing and that's all. personally I don't care live singing on the concerts, especially were dancing is so energetic. I would go to Michael's concert to see him and feel his energy, and don't care to hear live vocals. especially if it would be hard for him.

As I've mentioned in my last post, I really do think Michael's History concert was phenomenal.
What many fail to realize is that he's not "lip-singing." He's singing underneath the playback which is very common in the Entertainment world. We know that Michael's vocals were not healthy enough to be fed to a live audience. I feel so many people cast it to laziness and that's just absurd to me. The bottom line is that his voice wasn't good for the live concerts during this period. Sure he had one off great vocal nights, but most were awful. I mean he sounded awful within seconds of the verse of Scream in the Brueni concert.

Additionally, you have to really consider that Michael, performing in huge Stadiums, with thousands of people, the playback isn't going to be as noticable as you'd think.

One thing I will say is that Michael should have re-recorded each song for tour if he intended to "lip-sing."

Certain nights of the HIStory tour were good enough that the lip syncing wasn't bothersome. Some nights he really wasn't with it though, he was definitely going through the motions. I feel the same way about the 1993 2nd Leg.

It wasn't unwarranted to lip sync and it honestly just sounds good. Maybe it's not authentic though. But I like the studio sound. It's really fine, as long as MJ is on his mental game.

At least he had the sense not to lip sync the J5 Medley. That would be embarassing and hilarious.
I kinda made a post about MJ outgrowing his J5 era voice. But if he could still sing like that, boy oh boy would it be...useful?

He was pushing his luck here. But at least the dance outro to DSTYGE is cool
Does anyone know what the magic trick was like that MJ did between WDAN and DSTYGE on the Triumph tour? The small snippets I have seen look amazing! Similiar to the Bad tour?

This is so embarrassing. Did MJ think that people wouldn't notice such blatant lip-syncing?
He didn't seem to care anymore at this point.
The very thing that he was still parading himself out there ,after countless mentally uncapable individuals were calling him a pedophile every chance they got, is impressive in itself needless to say.
I would have went for a different approach though...like bringing the "Earth Song" music video to life and applying it to the said individuals 👍
