Thriller 40th Anniversary

What was the reason for no Dangerous 25 tho?
Normally, anniversary reissues are saved for albums that are popular amongst the public. Even though Dangerous sold over 30 million albums, Michael's three most popular albums are Thriller, Bad and Off The Wall and all three received anniversary reissues. Dangerous sadly is a more of a forgotten album, just like most of Michael's work post 80s.

But having said that, I do hope that someday we get an anniversary reissue of Dangerous, History and Invincible.

I'm sure we'll get anniversary reissues at the 50th anniversarys

The only negative thing of Thriller 40 imo was that there was no 2LP set.

My comment on all this bad mastering topic: Nowadays, most people listen to streaming or on their smartphones so songs are mastered for this. And I don't have anything against it but here all people talk about how bad it sounds but that's just an issue which came due to the loudness war and people listening to mp3s on their phone. There is nothing we can do about that. Also the songs sound okay. Not really bad, not audiophile good. Average quality. Just compare the songs quality with other newer releases. Sure, better mastering would be better but nowadays literally no one (except the hardcore fans (including myself)) cares about audio quality and proper mastering because nobody notices it while listening to their Spotify playlist.

I imagine the real reason, rhetorical questioning notwithstanding, is they wanna use those dangerous outtakes for posthumous releases. Work That Body, If You Don't Love Me, and Serious Effect have quite a lot of hit appeal actually.

Not Work That Body. That song is awful.

MJ Estate 2022 Wrapped
Next Month: Billie Jean 4K MV (I think it's Jan or Feb 2022) and Thriller documentary
“Billie Jean” was released as a single in January 1983, so perhaps they scheduled this to coincide with its 40th anniversary and the doc? Great idea if so, though weird that they released the first two shorts so far in advance.

I speculated this a little while ago. Billie Jean 40th Anniversary. Though I thought it was in March.

Definitely an interesting thought, though if they were going that route, why not then hold off releasing “Beat It” 4K until the single’s 40th anniversary in February? Too many questions, though I’m excited to see the answer.

With that theory...I doubt bj will be in 4k ever

Simply too long. When was Thrillers 40th?

Thriller 40 campaign is all but over. The Thriller documentary is way late in being released should have be out for Thanksgiving. Unless it’s on Netflix when released hardly anyone will see it. What about Sonic Fantasy is the Estate blocking a release? Hardly anyone even knows about Thriller 40 except us fans. Thriller 4k should have dropped for Halloween wtf is the Estate even doing?

Sonic Fantasy is just taking a long time. The director is very transparent on Twitter and hasn’t said anything about the estate, so I’m assuming he’s still looking for a distributor.

Perhaps it wasn’t ready, so the release was delayed? I would rather they put time in to make it great than churn out another Journey from Motown to Off the Wall.

From what I read, he's found some worldwide distributors, but it'll only be out at some point next year.

Asking wtf is the estate doing is like asking a wall why is it hard. I honestly think they don't give 2fcks. They aren't fans. Sometimes for some... they don't care about money. Sometimes they have enough not to care. If that makes since

hopefully we’ll start seeing trailers for the documentary soon. this is what I’ve been waiting for the most 🙂
