The Michael Jackson Chart Watch

@Nite Line I’m to this day flabbergasted at the low peaks of Jam, TDCAU and Who is it! I would love to know the reason behind it. Especially so who is it as it turned into a single after the Oprah a cappella. You would think the impact should have been bigger! In hindsight I think Give in to me would have been a better choice for the USA.

TDCAU had a low peak because of the controversy surrounding the lyrics and the fact that radios refused to play the song.

I am not sure why Jam and Who Is It had a low peak. Maybe because Michael didn’t tour the USA during the Dangerous Tour?

I also think that a rock song like Give In To Me would have been a hit in the US, but GITM was only released for international markets, more than a year after the album’s release. I personally would have released GITM as the third single of the Dangerous album.

Playlist of Michael Jackson songs with over 100 million streams on Spotify (Including features, The Jacksons & The Jackson 5).

@Nite Line Thriller 2003 at No. 32. :)

Really nice playlist.

The following songs are also close to 100 million mark.

- The Girl Is Mine 95,389,436
- You Rock My World 94,871,971
- Leave Me Alone 93,041,926

Give in To Me was going to be a US single but it was swapped out for Who Is It on account of the Oprah spike. But as a result, the video for WII wouldn't be made in time for the chart blitz. Ultimately neither song ended up doing as well as they could've, state wise. In what I consider to be a genuine fumble in MJs camp.

No surprises that Thriller and Bad albums had the most successful singles. I am also pleasantly surprised at the performance of History's singles. But I must say that I am a bit disappointed by the overall total of Dangerous' singles. :(
Since, I made this post, Off The Wall has been certified Silver and They Don't Care About Us has been updated from Gold to Platinum.

I hope to see Black Or White & Remember The Time reach the Platinum status in 2023.
