Would you erase MJs 90s records so you could also erase Invincible?

That depends on one's definition of peak:

- As an artist, he was at his peak in the '90s.

- As a dancer, he was at his peak in the '90s (HIStory Tour).

- As a vocalist, he was at his peak in the '80s ('BAD' album sessions).

- In terms of commercial success, he was at his peak in the '80s.

- In terms of touring, he was at his peak in the '80s (BAD Tour).

Some people say that in terms of touring, he was at his peak in the '90s because the demise of the Cold War (in 1991) gave him the chance to gain new, additional audience from the Eastern European countries when he performed there during the Dangerous Tour and the HIStory Tour.
Exactly! I was talking about him as an artist. As Michael Jackson! He indeed was at peak in the 90s

Maybe you have this idea due to the fact that you're from Russia - former east block. I'm sure MJ was peaking in the 90s there since there was basically no western pop culture in the UDSSR. In the western world MJ was at his hight in the 80's (just look at the album sales).

I love the way it goes so far beyond that. I'm sure you already know this, I'm just thinking out loud. Just last night I was remembering Beverly Hills Cop, one of the biggest films of 1984. Afaik, it stayed at No.1 (I assume in the US) for 13 consecutive weeks and was the highest grossing film (again, I assume USA) of that year. Wiki is not 100% reliable as a source of info but it can be a useful indicator. About Beverly Hills Cop it says this:

"For nearly two decades, Beverly Hills Cop would hold the record for having the highest domestic gross for an R-rated film until 2003 when it was taken by The Matrix Reloaded.[20] Box Office Mojo estimates that [Beverly Hills Cop] sold over 67 million tickets in the US."

And the reason I was having so much fun remembering all of this is bc I can recall at least 2 Michael Jackson references in the film, within a couple of minutes of each other. There is a really funny scene (imo!) where Eddie Murphy is trying to book himself into a posh, expensive hotel. I would post the clip but it does include the 'N' word (perfectly reasonably, imo, it's not being used gratuitously). Anyway, he's pretending to be a Rolling Stone journalist, in town to do an exclusive interview with Michael. After that, he leaves the hotel and is walking down the street observing LA and two people walk past him wearing lookalike Thriller outfits.

And that is what it was like back then. Michael just being casually referenced here, there and everywhere. Also yesterday I read a comment on an old MJJC thread where someone said they didn't buy Thriller until a good few months after it was released. Why? Bc every single time they turned on the radio something off the album was being played. Again, I can confirm that sort of thing did happen. His music was just everywhere. Not 24/7, obviously. There were other big stars around as we all know. But you didn't have to try to access his music. It was always so easily within reach.

Seriously???🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Album sales?? Omg.... That's the funniest argument I have ever seen
You still never answered me yesterday when I asked why you completely disregard Michael during the 1980's?

You're laughing at the above poster who's comment was 100% correct. It feels like we're banging our heads off a brick wall. You're obviously saying a lot of these things to wind people up.

Michael Jackson was the 80's. He broke through so many racial barriers to become the biggest star on the planet.

He released the biggest selling album of all time, he virtually turned around the music industry single handedly!

His motown 25 performance where he debuted the moonwalk was one of the most iconic performances ever done.

His famous fedora , single glove, Beat it jacket etc, there was people walking the streets wearing these things because of Mike!

The Thriller video became the most famous and iconic music video ever made.

He won 8 Grammy awards off one album!

His 1987 follow up produced 5 number one singles, he then went on tour selling out stadiums all around the world on the legendary BAD tour.

Michaelmania happened! He was virtually untouchable!

How dare you contine to put down MJ's career during this period. I really hope other posters finally see you for what you are, nothing but a wind up merchant.

I bet they've never played masterpieces like The Lady In My Life or Baby Be Mine... And that is the main problem of radio charts. They always play only something popular... In Russia almost everyday musical channels play Billie Jean, Smooth Criminal, Thriller or Beat It. I'm so freaking sick of it! 😡 Everytime my friends say "You, bro, it's Michael Jackson song!", I say "Eww.. Turn it off!" Where is my lovely Libarian Girl?? Where is my favorite Black or White! Everytime hearing the same songs, made it so annoying... The point is, that Michael planned to break this stereotype, using Invincible album songs! He planned to release Heaven Can Wait (for the first time! Not popular song) on radio... But unfortunately he failed... That was the biggest loss for MJ fans...

I am not going to get too far into any debate here other than to say that Invincible is comfortably Michael's worst album and it's not close.

Thank you for your thoughts 🙏

I'm starting to get a little paranoid that we're being a bit too harsh on this user but the comments he is making simply cannot be ignored?

Dismissing MJ in the 80's as though he was some chump. I believe it's racially motivated especially with his comments to Mister JT

I’m not sure there is anything racial about that.

I am not sure where it comes from honestly. There are people who really latch onto Invincible for some reason and they're welcome to do that; but I can only imagine it comes from some misguided loyalty, like they don't want to admit Michael's last musical contribution to the world wasn't any good. It's hard for me to compare Invincible to Michael's genre and era defining albums like Off The Wall, Thriller, Bad, Dangerous and even to some extent HIStory. Invincible was uninspired, middle-of-the-road "safe" fare for someone who seemed to want to hand all of the creativity to a bunch of fly by night kids. It just wasn't good.

I'd like to believe that's true , I really would but rather than just saying they like the 90's or 00's era better they are acting strange towards MJ in the 80's

We have seen them dismissing MJ completely and constantly referring to MJ as black Michael etc

Plus the comments to @Mister_Jay_Tee which I find racist.

I did not make this thread to start trashing invincible again. We know you don't like it. That's too bad.

The only thing worse than the ignorant invincible stans are the ones who act like it's the worst cd put out to the world. It's just C+ - B- Minus Tier Michael Jackson, not Brian Wilson trying to rap or something. Man.

Anyway, jokes over now. Back to business. @Hiker let's, lock up.

I do believe there’s a language barrier to account for a lot of these things. I could be wrong, though.

When are you becoming a mod yourself, JT?

OK. But only at the condition the MJ re-recorded all the songs from Farewell My Summer Love in 2000 and put that as Invincible - Disc 2.
