Rolling Stones are a DISGRACE!!!

f&m, I'm trying to find out more about this guy mentioned by Maxym. Checking out various YT bits and bobs.
I had to look him up and I now know why he is a complete unknown to me. He is namely from the French part of Belgium and I told you before how both parts are completely oblivious to each other. So I can’t help you a lot, we are only a country in name not in culture lol

oh, it wasn't a plea for help. He seems to have a few YT bits and bobs. I just flagged up on a FYI basis. French speaking Belgian poet / singer. Cool.

Actually, I'm not too sure about his voice. But it's early days! :)

@zinniabooklover : I think we forgot John Barnes. If I got right info there are at least 2 musician John Barnes, one has collaborated with MJ (and also a football or baseball player I don't remember).

Imagine they don't include it... but they include Invincible ...

John Barnes was an awesome footballer. Played for England. I have zero interest in football but he was good.

But, yeah, the MJ John Barnes. I guess we were thinking more of performers. Or I was, anyway. Yep, he goes on the list, lol.

@RollingStone
is expected to make an updated 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time List" i can't wait to see what these asshole place "Thriller. I wouldn't be such if it was #400 them dirtbags. #KingOfPop #MichaelJackson
For reference, in their most recent 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time List from 2020, Thriller was ranked at #12, Off The Wall at #36 and Bad at #194.

In the updated list, I expect Thriller to be out of top 50, Off The Wall to be out of top 100 and Bad to be ranked somewhere between 250-300.

This is the place, here I decide to talk about the Cyndi Lapuer Paris concert of 1987, i’m so edgy , doing as I please 😱
I watched the entire thing. What’s with her accent, is that an act? She sound exactly like that female character in ghostbusters, the one that plays the secretary of the ghostbusters.

On to the music. I liked the first 5 or 6 songs then there were a bunch of songs that were boring until true colors came along which is a world class song. I checked her first 2 albums and she did no less than 8 out of 10 songs from her then last album. That is cool. This is what I call promoting an album! I like the sober stage, musicians in plain sight, I like the simplicity. I also like her tight fitting dress or whatever that is called. As a healthy man I have an eye for tight dresses.
The first song reminded me of a Paula Abdul song, the way it sounds. The second one starts out like a Talking Heads song. It was called good enough which I couldn’t find on her 2 albums she had released by then. B side?
I was surprised to see a what’s going on cover, not bad. I had a feeling this would get followed up with Iko Iko which is what happened.
It was fun, good concert, good energy, good crowd interaction and a whole bunch of songs easy enough to bop your head to.
Ending the show with an a cappella version of true colors was awesome!

Yes, it is. She's from Brooklyn so she's just taking the p*ss out of herself, entertaining her audience, exaggerating her accent. Did you watch the bit at the beginning, before the video starts? Where she's pretending to be an unsophisticated, uninformed American tourist in Paris? Same thing, just a gentle, enjoyable p*ss take. If you listen to her speaking voice at the end of the show, where she's thanking the audience for being so lovely, that's her normal voice.

Her set list is a bit uneven, imo, and Good Enough is a crap song to have so early on in the set. All Through The Night is one of her best songs but it's far too early, imo, to be doing such a slow song. So the show doesn't get off to the best start but it picks up energy as she goes along.

until true colors came along which is a world class song.
ooh, gotta disagree with you there. Calm Inside The Storm, 911, One Track Mind. That is a cool run of songs for me. :)

Yeah, all the attention is on the songs. That's what I like. And, yes, I wanna see the band.

:ROFLMAO:

Er, excuse me! Cyndi is far superior and Change of Heart, one of her best songs, sounds nothing like Paula Abdul.

Moving swiftly on, lol.

The second one starts out like a Talking Heads song. It was called good enough which I couldn’t find on her 2 albums she had released by then. B side?
From the soundtrack of The Goonies film. She did release it as a single, it was never an album track although it did turn up on one of her compilation albums.

I was surprised to see a what’s going on cover, not bad.
Yep, she does that and then covers Jackie Wilson's Baby Workout as one of her encores. The girl has got good taste!

I had a feeling this would get followed up with Iko Iko which is what happened.

Yeah, once the energy picks up, the whole thing is fab.

Ending the show with an a cappella version of true colors was awesome!
It's beautiful. Perfect ending. And then that frozen image of her reaching her hand out to someone in the audience. Lovely!

No I went straight to the music lol. I noticed her voice changed at the end but by then I already typed my response, I edited once more because of the a cappella ending which was great and unexpected.

I keep hearing “straight up” 😛

Yeah that freeze is awesome. I love when it is done in horror movies too 😛

I found one more candidate for the JB list! But first: we included John Branca in the list, and he's not a singer or musician, he's a lawyer, therefore, lawyers should be allowed in the list too. So I just thought of Juan Branco ... kind of French activist lawyer, was WikiLeaks'/Julian Assange's lawyer for some time. And... John Branca, Juan Branco ... sounds like different flavors of almost the same name!

In a now deleted tweet, Rolling Stone writer, Tomás Mier, quotes The Weeknd’s response to the magazine with a racist photo of a monkey.

Wouldn't Rolling Stone be so popular in the US, then it would be at least funny at how ridiciulous and biased their rankings are...
Michael at number 86? And who's infront of him? Probably some American Country singer who sold about 5% Off The Wall sold during his entire career as Rolling Stone usually does?
At least they're really that popular ONLY in the US, as here in Europe, I've never seen anyone give a d*mn about them...
However, it's still very bothering that they continue to slander his name every chance they get!

Ironically, I'm not sure the King Of Rock n Roll would qualify for Wenner's book, unless the topic was about martial arts. Wenner is the guy who really made the idea of self writing important, that's why Bob Dylan is always rated high. It seemed to me that if the singer/band did not write their own stuff, Wenner didn't feel they had much talent. The idea of a rock n' roll philosopher or even starting a museum about it (Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame) is against what rock was originally about anyway. Which was rebellious dance music for 1950s white teenagers. Making rock into a philosophy is basically trying to turn it into classical music, some kind of self important thing.

I have never liked Rolling Stone magazine and Wenner is beyond moronic but, basically, yeah, I agree with you.

Jann Wenner is the big boss guy at Rolling Stone magazine. He's just made some insulting comments about female and Black musicians and artists.
His son is now running the magazine (father like son.....)

Take a step back and realise that all these entities are corporate entities that thrive on your interest in order to pay their bills. Ask yourself who funds these awards-givers and magazine sellers. Ask yourself why they do it. It's all business and designed to generate more sales. Every single one of them.

Disconnect. Ignore. Create your own lists. Make them irrelevant. Their lists are just somebody's stupid opinion, no more valid than yours. Stop giving them clicks. Stop giving them attention. No attention = no advertising revenue. No network deals. Nothing.

The Rolling Stones aren't affiliated with the magazine are they? Thread title seems to have some misplaced anger

No, the OP was annoyed bc Rolling Stone magazine did a list of 'great' vocalists and Michael was at No.86. I think OP was so indignant they typed the title too fast, lol.
Yea I saw..I thought that was a little odd to put Michael Jackson at 86. I mean, come on, it's Michael Jackson for Pete's sake

I'm pretty sure none of the rolling stones have anything positive to say about MJ either so the thread title can stand ;)

I wasn't that bothered, tbh. First of all, looking at the blurb written by the mag, they didn't even have a clear explanation of what they meant. They were flailing around between 'greatest' vocalist or 'best' or 'fave'. It was a hopeless muddle, iirc (can't be bothered to go back and revisit, once was enough, lol).

Also, they only really wanted lots of publicity - which they got. They don't really care about these lists, they just want loads of coverage and online noise. They got exactly what they wanted.

And these type of lists are always so meaningless. I honestly wouldn't care even if they did put Michael at No.1. It still wouldn't mean anything to me. Not that they would ever do that. It's Rolling Stone magazine. They could hardly be bothered to even put him on the cover.
