Have you never seen any of the epic images with Michael and the police? I think it was more for show rather than security.

It happened several times. In this interview with Michael's brothers on Questlove's podcast, Marlon talks about Michael being handcuffed to a bench by the police at 50:00 and they talk about the owner of an antique shop pulling a gun on Michael and tying him down at 52:30: Interview with the Jacksons on Questlove's podcast(i didnt know he got beaten and arrested for being black man?!

They said it was too violent (destroying the car) and that he grabbed his crotch too much (which would be laughable today lol), so Michael apologized and removed that part of the video (but still released the full version on VHS).
