Fair point. So, let me say it again ...I'm gonna come along and say this thread ain't about all that. We're here to talk about the Duck.
I was gonna say this is horrible….and especially with the toilet and everything….but on the other hand the more I look at it and the more I think about it….the contemporary art person in me comes out and it actually makes me laugh and I kind of like it. Let me explain….King of duck….though it may seem pointless…but it’s still a nod to the KING OF POP….and it just shows the REACH Michael has into all kinds of communities and how he inspires all kinds of people. Or even if they are just doing it to make money…well, then that’s a nod to MJ too if they know what market value any kind of association with MJ’s name has (as we have seen with JS & WR and DR and LN…). As horrid and ridicilous as these ducks may seem..they have a potential of being ”IT” products among collecters.Joking aside, I went back and had another look at the hideous item. I hadn't noticed the comment from Hector Barjot.
"It's distressing, an official product, sold for €3000 and which in no way represents Michael."

I get your point. What would Andy Warhol do? Or any other pop artist? What would Tracy Emin do or one of that crowd if they were minded to do something about Michael?I was gonna say this is horrible….and especially with the toilet and everything….but on the other hand the more I look at it and the more I think about it….the contemporary art person in me comes out and it actually makes me laugh and I kind of like it. Exactly. I just made the same point. It does put a different spin on it. I think this item is appalling. But context is everything. I've watched some videos from the collectors and they show stuff which I personally think is awful but which makes some kind of sense in the context of their overall collection, iyswim.So….if someone wants to pay thousands for that…by all means.
And never underestimate what can become a valuable art piece in the future. No one bought Modigliani’s paintings while he lived…Van Gogh wasn’t rich while he lived. So…moral of the story….you just never know. I love art, but I don’t understand the Banksy stuff…yet.. they go for MILLIONS.
You just never know.

And that is an observation that I can also agree with. At the end of the day, it's a crappy bit of plastic (great for the environment and the wildlife!) which is probably worth about 50p. But it's a fine line, imo, between something like this and ... oh, I dunno, the balloon dog made by Jeff Koons. Now I come to think of it, Koons made that horrible piece of 'art' of Michael and Bubbles. It's a thing made to scam rich people out of their money, imo. There is lots of this "art" existing and I'm sure it finds its intended audience.

Agreed. As I said…I LOVE art….but there’s still ”art” that I will never understand and think it is just as you said. I mean, for example art that literally just has the canvas painted black..and nothing else? Sorry but I don’t care who painted it….I’d never pay millions for it.It's a thing made to scam rich people out of their money, imo. I know. I get it. I guess one thing I have learnt in this community is to have patience.I'm just tired of how boring things are. We're starving

Hello,I'm all for art pieces & collectables but that is senseless to me. I would think that m would not like that.
Thank you for the reply!Hello,
TUD collaborated with Michael Jackson out of respect for his legacy, not just for profit. Our collectible toy is a tribute to one of the greatest icons, separate from fan expectations. Our goal is to create a meaningful art piece. We understand the deep connection MJ fans have with him, but our intention is to honor him through our interpretation of art. TUD creates limited collectible characters at the intersection of art and design, driven by passion and creativity. The duck symbolizes transformation and potential, inspired by "The Ugly Duckling" fairytale.
Sincerely, TUD TOY team
Hello,
Modern art is a big thing nowadays and our interpretation of MJ through the collectible toy has nothing to do with fans. Our goal was to make a collectible art piece and dedicate it to one of the greatest people on Earth and not to hurt anyone.
Sincerely, TUD TOY team
Thanks. We have no problem with your product itself. The discussion here is largely about the more general symptom of all products tied to MJ that come out being tied to the Estates general priorities of branching away from what made MJ such a great icon, his personal artistry and works. Many of us of course are much more passionate and eager to see these things. There is a place for your works as well of course.Hello,

Really curious to know what aspect of this mass-produced piece of plastic makes you think it's worth more than my car.TUD collaborated with Michael Jackson out of respect for his legacy, not just for profit.

Hello Duckie!Hello,
TUD collaborated with Michael Jackson out of respect for his legacy, not just for profit. we truly understand the fans of Michael Jackson and how deeply they carry him in their hearts and sometimes the new things could be a distraction, but The TUD wanted nothing but to create a worthy art product and dedicate it to The King of Pop. It's our interpretation of love for Michael Jackson.
Sincerely, TUD TOY team
Now that I see it, this looks way too much like an NFT. Wouldn't be surprised if it was intended to be such.Joking aside, I went back and had another look at the hideous item. I hadn't noticed the comment from Hector Barjot.

I hadn't considered that. Now that I see it, this looks way too much like an NFT. Wouldn't be surprised if it was intended to be such.
Yeah, doesn't feel right.A marketing account coming on here to defend their crappy merch is hilarious. Also those posts should be deleted imo, not really sure why it's something that's allowed here.

They should've promoted it 23 years ago.
If they only had released WH as a single. They should've promoted it 23 years ago.
It was planned so maybe that’s what they meant? I don’t know anymore with this estate. If they only had released WH as a single.
