Is that how you use the word fenestration? I thought it was about throwing somebody out of a window?

It’s really interesting, the links between languages. And I seem to recall that your ‘window’ is from Old Norse ‘vindauga’ (eye of the wind; Swedish ‘vindöga’)!

Seriously? I have no idea. Never heard of that. I only know the 'window design' thing. It's a bit of an old-fashioned word these days but it's lodged in my brain from way back.

I didn't know about this but I just found out there's a window / door fitting company called Vindauga. The company logo incorporates a Viking helmet, lol. :D

Pardon me, I feel a bit slow in the thought. The act of throwing somebody out of the window, of course, goes by the term defenestration!

Vindauga is a cool word! Very “viking metal.”

Interesting question! ‘Defenestration’ should apply to both, though it certainly most commonly is about people.

I’m wondering if it originates from France now, we borrowed lots of French words due to occupation in the Napoleon years but we also borrowed Spanish words when they occupied us in the 16th/17th century. Now that I think of it we have always been occupied by another country until we finally gained independence in 1830 lol

Yes, of course it is from France! And we did the same as you – we even imported our king from there!
