You don't need to like everything he did to be a fan lol
Of course, but...

I think what @MJJuniorSinceMW meant is that Michael being called "bizzarre" is something very sad to hear coming by a fan. It's more common coming by a hater or tabloid...

"I prefer the days when MJ seemed normal"
is a very strong sentence, and I think you know this more than me if you are an old fan, considering what Michael went through all of his life being called in so many disrespectful ways 🙏🏻

Maybe it's just to have parts of the pictures matching the random fonts for the artist name and album title.

Maybe just a trend because due to the web explosion, computer stuff were starting to become "cool".

Usually, how I see it is that most of this album gives me a "clinical" vibe compared to the other albums (not even sure how to describe it), a somewhat more electronic sound. And the cover matches this. Though, did the cover influence the way I perceive the album? Maybe.
I want to believe there is a deeper meaning behind the right eye. Something like this:
Across cultures, the eye shares this symbolism of access to spiritual illumination. Among the Inuit, a shaman is called “theone who has eyes,” emphasizing visionary insight. In Indian Upanishads and Taoism, the right eye is linked to the sun (activity and the future)

Maybe...
But also, initially, if I'm not mistaken, this was the project for the Invincible cover:

I think it's Sony that refused it and "something else" had to be used. So, maybe they didn't have much time to think about it.

looks like a rescue blanket

MJ didn't like any of the Arno Bani photos. He wanted to see what he could come up with for a potential album cover and he didn't like any of the resulting photos.

The original Invincible cover was MJ's face painted in gold as a reference to Albert Watson's "Golden Boy" photo; Watson was the one who photographed the Invincible cover and Sony had it photoshopped, probably because they wanted to make it simpler for differently colored variants.

He was bizarre, though lol. His behaviors weren't that of a "normal" person. Same with Prince and a lot of other pop stars, but MJ was among the weirdest.

That's not entirely a bad thing. MJ was a likable eccentric in a lot of ways. But the man had issues, so much that he wasn't normal.

define "normal"

The photo with the blue eye looks mysterious. I think I would have liked that as a cover.

HIStory deserves more love. I think it's a great piece of artwork and has quite a lot more character than so many of today's pretty samey "black" artwork.

The single covers are also some of the best, even in comparison to Dangerous'.
