In the UK, you mean? It's shipping in the US already.Feb 7th now apparently
I said UK in the post above yeah.In the UK, you mean? It's shipping in the US already.
Oh, my bad. I'm sorry.I said UK in the post above yeah.
The sacd, too? It's shipping in the US already.
No idea.The sacd, too?
Checked out that review, seems it's a good one! Also seems similiar to the Thriller one in that it's more "natural" sounding. Can't wait to hear it.In the UK, you mean? It's shipping in the US already.
It was one date and I received an email saying it had been delayed to another, that's why I posted about it being delayed.I don't think there's necessarily a different release date for the UK, I think with something as small as MoFi it's literally just the time it takes to ship to different countries.
Just listened to that review - I'm waiting on the SACD, ie not really bothered about the vinyl, but it's very interesting to note she's actually changed her favourite song from DSTYGE to GOTF based on the sound quality.
The song is amazing when the acoustics are right. It's that bland modern mastering that takes away all the layers.but it's very interesting to note she's actually changed her favourite song from DSTYGE to GOTF based on the sound quality.
With proper mastering, I'd say the same for every song on the album. The song is amazing when the acoustics are right. It's that bland modern mastering that takes away all the layers.
Yeah I'm very excited to be able to listen to itAlthough I can't wait to give it a listen, one part of me is thinking "it's been 46 years, what's another week?"
Honestly the reason I'm so excited about these releases. Whilst they won't really be widely available it will give enthusiasts a way to get a high quality master done recently. Fingers crossed they keep doing this and we get BAD next. With proper mastering, I'd say the same for every song on the album.
It'll be a convenient easier way to hear it. It'll be interesting to stack it up next to the classic original masters.Honestly the reason I'm so excited about these releases. This shouldn't be a surprise. On a final note, it has the "single mixes" of RWY and GOTF, sadly.
One could think the "original stereo master" would have them since the original LP, which was cut from it, has them. This shouldn't be a surprise.
I bet this uses (like Thriller) Bruce' 1999 master. One could think the "original stereo master" would have them since the original LP, which was cut from it, has them.
You might be wrong, mate. MFSL states it clearly that both Thriller and this new OTW release are sourced from DSD 256 digital transfers of the original analog masters.I bet this uses (like Thriller) Bruce' 1999 master.
I dunno. Mofi has stated for Thriller they've used "original master tapes". And they had to admit meekly the tape's a digital to analog transfer. You might be wrong, mate. Bruce's 1999 masters are digital. MFSL went back to the OG analog masters.

How is that true if even the 1999 SACD of Thriller is just a flat transfer of the original stereo master tape? Also, OTW, Thriller & Bad were never mixed for CD/digital until 1999. All previous releases were sourced from a LP master - which by its nature have different EQ'ing. Bruce was very fond of his "new" mixes.
To my knowledge, the new masters were first used for the Special Editions (and later re-releases, T25 & Bad25).How is that true if even the 1999 SACD of Thriller is just a flat transfer of the original stereo master tape?
Are you able to test the SACD layer?Just listened to the redbook layer of the SACD and, well, MFSL did it again.
Great news. Wider soundstage seems to be the consistent theme. With Thriller I'd probably say the channel separation and the bass were the highlights.I've compared it to the 80s Japanese CD master (gold disc, silver disc, 1987, 1988 and 1991 "ESCA" reissues are all clones) and it has a much wider soundstage with an amazing stereo separation which brings new ambience to the album imo.
Fantastic. I'll look forward to my copy. All I'm getting so far is "Fulfillment in Process".We're all in for a great treat, folks. This is just as good as their Thriller, if not better.
But the SEs sound terrible, and the T25/Bad25/T40 is even worse...To my knowledge, the new masters were first used for the Special Editions (and later re-releases, T25 & Bad25).
Nope. Are you able to test the SACD layer?
Bernie Grundman's work was further compressed for the CDs. A fellow user here shared a snippet of Human Nature from Bernie's (re)master and it sounds fine. But the SEs sound terrible, and the T25/Bad25/T40 is even worse...
That's the extensive use of the limiter (compression/level maximization). But the SEs sound terrible, and the T25/Bad25/T40 is even worse...
Well, a very bad one then since the whole thing has absurd clipping. That's the extensive use of the limiter (compression/level maximization).
