Popular MJ song that you just don't get

Little Susie, mainly bc its one of the few songs that are unsettling to listen to.
And it is quite the oddball to include in the HISTORY album (in my opinon).

I believe he originally wrote it in the 70s and then came back to it and recorded it in the 90s. Like, for real MJ?? Put Little Susie down. Put the song down and step away. No one needs to hear about a dead girl with blood in her hair 😂

Nah, I love that Edgar Allen Poe bag MJ was in. That is that sort of thing that makes Michael Jackson who he was. He made Billie Jean, I Can't Make It Another, Little Susie, and She Drives Me Wild. The versatility is insane.

'Little Susie' does not sound out of place on the 'HIStory' album (second disc).

Actually, the entire second disc (of that album) is unsetlling to listen to.

Note, for example, that the 'D.S.' song even ends with the sound of a gunshot.
 
I agree, History disc 2 is unsettling to listen to in one go. I listen to certain songs at a time, but disc 2 songs back to back can be overwhelming if you're not prepared for it. MJ really bound his soul to those songs. That's also why I think its such a great album, its deep, it makes you think. I think a song like Is it Scary and even Morphine belonged on that album, maybe instead of DS, TTA, 2B, I just felt those songs were overly repetitive in theme as well as the actual songs themselves.
 
I even found a song like Smile unsettling to listen to, when listening to disc 2 back to back, because after all the angry songs you could tell he was singing Smile out of a place of pain. It was like listening to him disassociate in real time within the album.

The Way You Make Me Feel : The lyrics a repetitively "empty", and the video only makes it feel more "obsessive". I even prefer Just Good Friends which actually tells some story . That said, there's nothing really really bad on Bad. I enjoyed TWYMMF a bit more in the past and I don't always skip it.

Ghosts: It's not that it's really popular as a "big hit", but I never understood why it's more popular than Is It Scary.

Billie Jean (only the lyrics/story): I get it that the music and tune are good. Wouldn't be my top pick on the album. The thing is I don't care much about the story. I mean if she's not his lover and the kid is not his son, there's zero stakes, you learned "nothing" at the end of the song, only negative statements. I only recently learned that it was based on an actual story. But with the actual story being mostly unknown (to me, so far) or forgotten, the lyrics just feel like a boring story out of the blue.

GYWOOM: It's way more popular than it should ever be as it is.
