This Estate, this Estate 🤦🏿‍♂️

*cough, cough* chalk???
Maybe not... it's just because I love Off the Wall.
All releases except for Bad 25 were underwhelming. Not saying they are all bad Xscape has its moments. The vault is just about empty 😂
We know it's not empty. They just do wtf decisions. How come Hot Street and Got the Hots are not on Thriller 40? Or why ignore the Dangerous songs and no Dangerous Deluxe? Argh. But they cleared the Don't Matter To Me sample. And allowed the fake songs.

It's very hard being an MJ fan when you look at the releases and compare them to those of other estates. But the MJ Estate knows how loyal we are, and that's why they act this way. The only life lesson you can learn from this is to avoid comparisons. They tend to make you unhappy.

Thriller 40 was a disgrace. The fact that Prince's estate (for example) has come up with multiple quality releases with way less money is frustrating.

I try to not get into this type of discussion because I find it incredibly frustrating, but I do agree with you. Today I listened to the MJCast episode with director Jeff Margoli who’s worked with MJ since he was in J5, and he was talking about the One Night Only special and when he was asked about the reworked tracks MJ was rehearsing to -with an orchestra- he said “they’re out there somewhere!” and there’s also probably dress rehearsal footage.

I just think, will we ever see or hear this stuff?! The 30th anniversary rehearsals where MJ performed One Day In Your Life with Whitney. Where is it? Proper deluxe editions for all the albums?

And apart from all of that, look how utterly lacklustre the Apple and Spotify accounts are! No Ultimate Collection, or 80’s, 90’s, 00’s singles, HIStory on Apple is grouped with the compilations and not the original albums. Group the new songs Scream through Smile with the original albums, and the first disc -which was released separately- with the hits/compilation albums. No ‘Someone Put Your Hand Out or bonus tracks from the 2001 Special Editions.

How hard is it to simply have basic competence?

É um brinquedo estranho que está sendo vendido por US$ 2.990. Aparentemente, esse tipo de coisa é considerado um "artista colecionável" e alguns desses brinquedos podem custar até US$ 3.600, rs.

The most incredible thing is that The Ultimate Collection and Live in Wembley (Bad 25) were previously available for streaming, the reason why they were taken down is anyone's guess.

I have thought about all this and I want to agree. But I simply see it as saving their hands for future options.

Repeating myself here, but:

has there ever been some kind of petition from the fanbase, what EXACTLY we would like to have released? Maybe we can get one going and when thousands of people sign it, there is a chance they will see us? Let's annoy them so much that they just give up 🙃.

There's been a few petitions, iirc. Everyone wants different things and, anyway, is MJE that bothered? 🤷🏽‍♀️
Dunno. I just feel like if we put the energy we use for ranting into a petition, it could be a great thing 😁.

Don't get me wrong, I feel the desperation. But it's worth a try, I guess? But again I don't kow how many people participated in the petitions that already have been there.

Sure, but that hasn’t made it any less frustrating for fans. The past decade has been incredibly lean, and when we did get the occasional bone thrown it felt very much like an afterthought.

Thriller 40 for example felt incredibly amateur -a poorly sequenced disc of tracks that weren’t mastered nor mixed. And those tracks badly needed to be put through both those processes. And the documentary was also quite poor, its only saving grace really was the beautiful footage from the Victory Tour.

The Scream “album” an absolute disaster. It felt like non-event.

There’s been more than a few petitions over the years. There was one for the Bad Tour from around 2007 that had quite a few fans behind it, and when Bad Tour Wembley was released with Bad25 in 2012, a few fans who were unhappy with the visual and audio quality blamed the fans who petitioned for a Bad Tour release. Listen, I was unhappy with the quality also. Most of us were, and in an ideal world it would have been blu ray quality, but at least they seemed to be more tuned in to the fact that fans actually want released physical product.

It was a non event. A compilation CD is not even worth bringing up. I guess at the time there was excitement but oh well.
I was tempted to buy the glow in the dark vinyl but never did. I actually enjoyed the remix mashup thing. I might buy it at some point, but to market it as an album was a little extreme.

Apologies if I miss words or sentences from what I’m saying. My dyslexia is a bit extra today.

That's why I wrote we have to go a little more into detail with what we want. Maybe make a list with possible releases over the next years, then collect a lot of votes and sent it to the Estate, post it on twitter, their Social Media, whatever so they can't ignore it 🤷.

imo that's better than just hoping.

I admire your enthusiasm, and I really don’t mean to discourage you, but I don’t think they’re interested mate. I’ve seen fans put together some wonderful proposals for super deluxe versions of Thriller, Bad, Dangerous, HIStory, only to be ignored or fobbed off with “we plan on releasing new and exciting projects in the future” or words to that effect.

I came up with my own ideas for deluxe sets for the albums, including a five LP Bad box set and multiple ideas for different things over the years, but when you have a bunch of people working for a corporation who can’t even distinguish the difference between MJ and a lookalike, or constantly getting dates and facts wrong……. Just don’t get your hopes up too much.

If you make a petition I’ll sign it though.

If even the 42nd anniversary of WBSS is mentioned on the official website, then perhaps we can expect great things for HIStory 30. Hope dies last.
Michael Jackson’s “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’” Single Celebrated On Its 42nd Anniversary
May 09, 2025

On this date in 1983, the 4th single from the “Thriller” album, “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’”, was released. 42 years later it’s amazing to see so many people on social media like dancers nahieldomenech + matamiyu expressing the joy they find in this song.

The estate is definitely aware of all the complaints about the releases, it's just that they don't care and just ignore all the feedback. I think their stance was that they wanna focus on bringing new fans but like...pretty sure just the musical is not doing it. Hope after the Michael biopic is out and successful it makes them change their minds and do some kinda big, well promoted album of new songs or even just re-releases that aren't Thriller.

Also the only times when they did cater to fans I can think of were with the Thriller 40 cover, and the Cascio tracks removal, but even the latter was more of a "whatever we don't care by now" basically.

Also if the This Is It re-release hints at some 15th anniversary thing...there is no way they'd be doing yet another one for that and none for the actual stuff that MJ put out, genuinely hilarious.
At least it's something I guess but please.
To think that the only release post Bad 25 to get the "significant" or expensive box set treatment was This Is It tell you everything you need to know.

Dangerous deserves its moment.

Not like they even included anything new. Maybe include more footage of MJ having conversations about the show? Directing rehearsal? No, a picture book with mostly already seen images and a ticket.

That 10th anniversary This Is It plastic blue box with lights was a disaster! An absolute disaster!

If they did release something for its 15th anniversary, it would be a kick in the teeth to the supposedly aborted Dangerous 25. Dangerous deserves its moment.

1000 copies made in 2010 and it's STILL available to buy!
