"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

If the first movie is everything before Thriller, with the second being Thriller + after - I can't see the first one doing very well commercially
They could split the Thriller era in two, put the Motown 25 moonwalk in the first movie and the Thriller music video in the second movie, now people are gonna be so confused, they won't know which movie they should go see, so they'll just have to watch both. 😁

The fact that the biopic has been postponed to 2026/2027 means nothing stands in the way of HIStory 30. There's no excuse not to celebrate this anniversary. By the way, 2027 is the 40th anniversary of Bad. I imagine the second part of the biopic will be about that era.

I must say that my enthusiasm for this movie is starting to fade. All this uncertainty and the fact that it will most likely be split into two parts.

I’m concerned that by expanding on certain scenes could actually add unnecessary dialogue that turns into a drag.

The rumour that part 1 will end after OTW is nuts. I really don’t want another American dream.

MJ deserves one EPIC movie

Who else is sick of pensake media's articles about the biopic?

These 22 days of extra filming does not jibe with bullshit they've been spewing about the Chandler settlement. Lions gate is investing MORE money into this film, so how can it be in trouble like the media's been claiming?
Out of curiosity how old will JC be in26/27?

Well, the biopic stands in the way. It’s my understanding that everything Dangerous, HIStory related is to happen after the biopic? I may have misunderstood? So with the delay -which was inevitable I guess- we have another possible two years in the wilderness.

And will they throw us a bone? I doubt it. The estate don’t ever seem to feel sorry for or obligated to this fanbase to the point where they release a new demo or a new piece of footage. Sure, we might get a “Let’s look forward to the future, Lots to come” vague type of empty statement, but apart from that, nothing.

I don’t mind waiting for the biopic, but with the secrecy around it, and nothing else from the estate, it’s all a bit drab. I don’t see how it could hurt them to release a new song for instance, or every few weeks release little unseen vignettes of MJ. Is there not a single person in that organisation who says, “This is rough on the fans, we need to give them something to keep their spirits up”.

Am I wrong? Dangerous and HIStory were mentioned in a recent statement that was quite vague as usual. Why not do something for HIStory’s 30th?

Anyways, there will be nothing apart from another 1 to 2 years of speculation. I’m sure the film will be worth it in the end, but man, would it really kill them to press on with some sort of project for the time being. It’s sad that the lifelong hardcore core fanbase are thrown in with the casual curious public.

I can’t remember the last time I was genuinely really excited about an official Michael Jackson release. 2012’s Bad25 or 2014’s Xscape, that’s pretty much it. I’ll give them credit for MJ ONE in Vegas and MJ The Musical, but overall it’s been a pretty dismal experience apart from fan projects such as podcasts, remixes, restorations etc.

Still waiting for Dangerous 25 .....

The 2027 reference is their fiscal year which I believe also encompasses at least the second half of 2026. That's why that date got thrown around in the mix.
Yes my understanding the fiscal year 2027 beginns in April 2026 and ends in March 2027

Re-posting a couple of excerpts from that article posted by ChanceToDance

“In regard to our Michael Jackson biopic, we’re excited about the 3½ hours of amazing footage from producer Graham King and director Antoine Fuqua, and we will be announcing a definitive release strategy & timing in the next few weeks,” he said. “I would note that it is likely we will move ‘Michael’ out of the fiscal year which will impact fiscal ’26 financial results but will bolster an already strong fiscal ’27 slate.”

The fiscal calendar ends on March 31, 2026, so Feltheimer’s statement indicates that the film (or films) will likely debut after April 1, 2026. Last month, Variety reported that the film would likely be split into two parts and be pushed from the initially announced release date of Oct. 3, 2025."

It was to be expected that the biopic would be a mess. After all, the Estate is behind it. Therefore, you should only have very low expectations.
Really. I think the big projects were and are successful. The Cirque show, MJ the Musical, and the people working on the MJ biopic are all professionals in their field. Michael's son is also very involved in the project.

That may all be true for the past, but there still seem to be some fundamental problems with the film's realization, which doesn't seem very professional to me. And I'd like to point out that Teddy Riley, an absolute professional, worked on fake songs.

Just Because it's... fun... to speculate, what if:

•the movies are split just after (or before) the Pepsi accident. It's said to be the exact midpoint of his life.
•they make three (3) movies. They could still end the first one as above, but solve legal issues by having the 3rd one about '93 onwards. (The second 25 years still has so many events and incredible music for at least 2 films)

The issue I think with having multiple parts to the movie is I believe people will start to lose interest. Numbers will go down after an initial release.
Depends if they can put on a catchy song to draw people in with the marketing. Black or White for the Dangerous era might go a big way.

Also, they need Someone Put Your Hand Out for the soundtrack of the Dangerous era, this is a mandate.
