HIStory 30th Anniversary

^^ Bruce Swedien did new masters for all MJ/QJ albums in 1999, which were used on the 2001 (and later) (re)releases.

For the first time ever, those masters were released without excessive compression by MoFi (sacd/cd combos of OTW & Thriller). I really wish they'll do the Bad album next.

All albums released post very late 1980s don't need any "remastering", as they're already mastered propperly for cd.

The masters for earlier album releases were optimized for LP (and cassette) which needed (simplified saying) different EQ settings. Hence remastering (= doing new 2track master mixes) those for cd results in superior audio quality.

Nowadays the term "remastered" is usually used for marketing purposes only (= b.s.).
Perhaps, for marketing purposes they could give Dangerous and HIStory brand new mixes. I’m not saying they need new mixes as I think both albums are perfect, but if they were going to create box sets around them at least it would give fans a reason to re-buy the albums and might be an interesting alternative as MJ’s albums are so layered and there’s a lot of music and vocals hidden in the mix.

I’d probably prefer a new album over such a box set, but it would be a great way for them to offload demos, rough cuts and alternate vocal takes. They’ll never do that of course, because they don’t seem to care about or understand that concept, but personally I’d love that type of release also.

But a new album of 10 tracks, done the right way, would be most welcomed at this point.

This Week in 1995, Michael’s Two Song Lead Single from his HIStory Album Was Released
June 02, 2025
The two-song lead single from Michael Jackson’s expansive 2-disc album “HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I” featuring “Scream” was released this week, 30 years ago. Its release added to the building anticipation for the album and “Scream” co-producer Jimmy Jam told VIBE Magazine at the time: “Michael’s the most intense person I’ve worked with. For him, everything is about the music and how to make it better.”
Michael Jackson’s HIStory Album Marketing Plans Had Hollywood Ambitions
June 03, 2025
Michael’s ambitious marketing plans for the HIStory album included the idea to temporarily cover up the Hollywood sign with the album’s title. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce rejected the proposal on this date in 1995, but the $30 million promotional campaign had some other grand scale wonders which would be revealed the week before the release date.

Michael Jackson’s “Childhood” Addresses His Sacrifices As a Child
June 04, 2025
“Childhood” is a lush autographical ballad that addresses the sacrifices Michael made to be a young star. It was the second track on the first single from the HIStory album, released this week in 1995. This sketch Michael made for the album booklet visualizes the theme of the song and its lyrics.

The Filming of Michael Jackson’s “They Don’t Care About US (Brazil Version)” In Rio De Janeiro Had A Positive Impact On The City
June 06, 2025
Rio Tourism Press Officer Claudia Silva remarked that Michael Jackson’s production of the short film for “They Don’t Care About Us (Brazil Version)” improved life in the Rio De Janeiro favela (ghetto) of Dona Marta. “This process to make [it] better started with Michael Jackson. Now it’s a safe favela. There are no drug dealers anymore, and there’s a massive social project. But all the attention started with Michael Jackson.” #MJHumantarian

Fans Rally to Celebrate HIStory’s 30th Anniversary with Streaming Campaign

By Admin Team
June 8, 2025

As the 30th anniversary of HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I approaches, Michael Jackson fans around the globe are coming together once again to honor the King of Pop’s iconic double album. From June 20 to June 26, the fan-led initiative is calling on supporters to stream and purchase HIStory en masse in hopes of propelling it into the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 and Billboard World Albums charts.

This grassroots campaign, primarily driven through social media platforms and fan forums, is part celebration, part statement. HIStory remains one of Michael Jackson’s most personal and politically charged projects, and fans are determined to give it renewed visibility three decades after its release.

“We want the world to remember what HIStory stands for—not just the music, but the message,” says one campaign organizer from Brazil. “It’s about reminding new generations of Michael’s legacy.”

These types of campaigns are not new to the MJ fanbase. Over the years, similar efforts have been launched to boost various albums, singles, or even YouTube views on key anniversaries or dates related to Michael’s life. While they often create a wave of online excitement and temporary spikes in numbers, they have, unfortunately, yielded limited success in achieving long-term chart re-entries—especially on major rankings like the Billboard 200.

Still, the passion of MJ’s global fan community is undeniable. With thousands already pledging to stream HIStory on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube, and others purchasing digital and physical copies of the album, the movement is gaining momentum.

Whether or not the campaign cracks the Top 10, one thing is clear: Michael Jackson fans will never stop championing his art. And if this anniversary brings HIStory to even one new listener, that’s a victory in itself.

Michael Jackson’s ‘HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I’ Turns 30 | Album Anniversary

Happy 30th Anniversary to Michael Jackson’s ninth studio album HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I, originally released June 20, 1995.
June 9, 2025 / Andy Healy

HIStory is a journey through the struggles of injustice and the ups and downs of life. It is an album that opens with a “Scream” and ends with a “Smile.” It is a cathartic expression of an artist who was expressing his suffering but also his innate optimism.

Michael Jackson’s “Little Susie” Taps Michael’s Love Of Classical Music
June 09, 2025
Michael Jackson in his book Moonwalk wrote: “I love classical music. I’m crazy about Debussy. Copland is one of my all-time favorite composers. I listen to a lot of Tchaikovsky.” On the HIStory album, Michael tapped into this passion for classical music by adding the choral hymn “Pie Jesu” by French composer Maurice Duruflé, into the beginning of the haunting track “Little Susie”.

They already made clear that they do not care to do any anniversary release

Michael Jackson’s “This Time Around” Became a Dance/Club Hit In Early 1996
June 11, 2025
Fred Shuster of The Los Angeles Daily News in his 1995 review of the HIStory album called the songs “Money”, “D.S.” and “This Time Around, “superb slices of organic funk that will fill many of the summer’s busiest dancefloors”. “This Time Around” features the legendary rapper Notorious B.I.G. and this track’s hip-hop edge is still sharp. It was issued as a promotional single in December 1995, with remixes, on CD and a 2-disc vinyl 12”, which pushed it into the top 20 of the Billboard Dance/Club chart in early 1996.

Michael Jackson’s HIStory Album 32-Foot Statue Debuts In London On This Date in 1995
June 13, 2025
This week in 1995, the ambitious global marketing plan for HIStory album started rolling out. To remind people of the grandeur of Michael’s career and the expansiveness of this two-disc set, Sony built nine individual 32-foot statues of Michael, each weighing 42,000 pounds. They were modeled from a clay sculpture designed by Diana Walczak which was also digitized and used for the album cover. The first giant sized Michael appeared on June 15th in the UK, floating on the River Thames in London. Do you know what other cities played host to the giant-sized Michael as part of the campaign?

I was in Ireland for three weeks some years ago and I had to tell everyone to please slow down, otherwise I would have understood like only 5% of what they were saying 😅.
I’ve had to refine it a lot through living in the UK and it’s slowed down a lot over the years of spending a lot of time in other countries, but when I do occasionally get back home to Ireland, after a few days it creeps back in lol 😂
