The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

It was definitely a short version of the song, I also remember me being told which version was supposed to be on there but I don‘t remember which one it was going to be, it either was a shortened down version of the 1987 or of the 1991 mix
It was the '91 version

Random thought but considering that SPYHO was listed on an early listing for Bad SE, I wonder if the version that leaked is the same as the one intended for the SE on the early tracklist
The version on Bad SE is literally just the Dangerous version but shortened lol

The leak is probably from the early Dangerous sessions, or maybe from Bad... One of the tape inserts from Sundberg leaks dates SPYHO to February 1990.

Which was before Teddy Riley's involvement. He joined the Dangerous sessions in early 1991 - i.e. later in production - and helped Michael update the song.

As it turns out, Sunset Driver was recorded at Yamaha R&D Studios in Glendale, California... That studio appears to have opened in 1981 and Keith Seppanen began his role as chief engineer there at the same time.
It's there if you check Discogs for information on both... It featured on the Feb '84 issue of Mix magazine - a professional music industry/studio magazine from the time - which said the studio was just under 3 years old then...

Which points to Sunset Driver being recorded at least as early as 1981. Presuming both the engineering and studio credits are accurate.
Thank you for this! This is about as concrete as we’ll get short of seeing the session sheets.

A group of Michael Jackson scores for the following songs: "Hot Street" sketch score marked "(Not Used)" and dated "7-20-82"; "Slapstick" sketch score marked "Demo," title is crossed out and "Hot Street" written as the new title, dated "7-12-82"; "She's Trouble" sketch score marked "(Not Used)" and dated "8-3-82"; "Carousel" sketch score marked "(Not Used)" and dated "8-3-82"; "Nightline" sketch score marked "(Not Used)" and dated "8-3-82"; and "Behind the Mask" sketch score marked "(Not Used)."

A group of musical scores from Michael Jackson's Thriller album including "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' " marked "demo" listing Michael Jackson as the producer and "Q.J." (Quincy Jones) as the composer; "Baby Be Mine" sketch score marked "demo," dated "7-20-82," and noting "QJ" as the arranger; "The Girl Is Mine" marked "Prelim"; "Thriller" sketch score marked "Prelim," dated "8-3-82," and noting that the former title was "Starlite"; "Human Nature" sketch score marked "demo"; "P.Y.T." marked "Q.J ." and "Final."

I'm alright with "Hot Street" not being on Thriller 40, the song would've stood out way too much in comparison to the songs that ended up on disc 2 which most of them were nothing remarkable to begin with, so I'd prefer that it's saved for a proper album.

What still pisses me off, however, is that they put CGOOTR on the tracklist. Why couldn't have they put on the demo of "Don't Matter To Me" instead? The song has already been released, it technically wouldn't make the Estate waste an unheard song while at the same time it would still give the fans something "new" to enjoy. It would've been a safer pick.
Would’ve taken TGIM demo over CGOOTR

To my knowledge, BTM was cut before the album became Thriller. Since Michael wrote an additional verse, he wanted a bigger percentage and Yellow Orchestra pretty much said “no” and declined the clearance. All “alleged” of course

The version im referring to on Bad Special Edition was produced by Teddy.

It was the Dangerous version. Would’ve been cool if it was the original but it made more sense to do the Dangerous version since it was already cleared.

I think this gets overlooked, apparently a snippet of DBMR leaked in 2010 that is NOT the Bad 25 version, and I’m not sure if it’s the Korgnex version, anyone know which version it is?

After doing more research, I found this:

“The released version is a new mix done by Forger, which he made from combining elements recorded across multiple different multitrack tapes in an attempt to best represent the Bad-era version of the track.”

Yep, not sure which version it is but I remember hearing this snippet years ago and then not being able to find it lol.

Yeah, it was a work in progress demo, so of course he would have to go through what was there in order to make a version that best represents what existed at the time, especially if you're wanting to present it as complete a state as possible.

One more thing, ive found a pair of videos from the same user claiming that these are seminar leaks of a full version of WAHTCTW, I have not heard anything about this, so I’m not sure if they’re real.

Still baffles me that this leaked, we all collectively went “yeah this is clearly fake,” and then two years later we all came back and went “oh.”

I will never forget my shock, May 2012 when DBMR was leaked as the B side to the reissue of IJCSLY, I went straight back to that video and I couldn't believe how we all dismissed it.

Wouldn't it be funny if that 7 second snippet was from a "finished version" of the track 😅

I really like Don't Be Messin' Round

It's a song I keep forgetting about even though I really enjoy it.
