The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

So many 1989 songs didn't make it on to Dangerous.

I wonder what if the outcome of Dangerous would have been any different, if Decade was released in early 1990 & Dangerous later at the end of 1991 (or beginning of 1992).🤔
The album has its own distinct flow. It's probably for the best that he didn't overload the release with too many NJS-style tracks.

Dangerous probably would've been much different as Decade was to include songs like Who Is It, Give In to Me, Heal the World and Black or White but even by then, the songs weren't complete

Changing the lyric from "I Am The Loser" to "I Was The Loser" doesn't really make sense to the rest of the lyrics (to me).

I'd like to think that had he gone on to make another album, this would have been left in the vault. It's really not great, regardless of the version. Never took to it.

I don't think Decade would've even had "Who Is It" and "Give In To Me." Didn't they come after Michael made the decision to make Decade into Dangerous?

Me finding out there might be a more finished version of Ghost Of Another Lover

It's crazy how finding out one collaborators name, opens up so many possibilities of more unreleased material.

We've known for a while that it was vocally completed and reworked in 2009. What we didn't know was that theres a possible more vocally finished version of the 1991 version

We have had no confirmation of the song being vocally completed. All we've heard is a mumbled demo.

In the tracker someone wrote "A vocally complete rework from 2009. A CD dated April 29th, 2009 was found on a court document investigating LaToya's boyfriend, who was accused of stealing items owned by Michael upon his death. In total there are 7 mixes with different vocal arrangements". So where does this information comes from?

The tracker has quite a bit of wrong/presumptuous information. The existence of 2009 mixes doesn’t mean those mixes have full vocals.

The track list for Decade was already configured in 1989 but the execs wanted him to add more of his previous hits. Michael didn't like the idea and began to create a brand new album. Decade was still due to be released in 1990 even after missing like 4 deadlines but by that time, Michael was over it.

A lot of the Dangerous songs were already being worked but not near completion by 1989

Another editor added the "vocally complete" part. I'm sure that info wasn't even there when I wrote it. I'll go delete it.

Any other suggestions on what to change?
Yea I was a bit skeptical on the vocally complete part, but that info was there for so long that I thought it was confirmed

Change Seven Digits [V3] to unconfirmed, as it basically contradicts its description lol
Adding that What You Do To Me was considered for Bad 25(?)
Changing APOM [V2] from Snippet to Partial (Or even full) since we most likely heard the entire thing on Captain EO
And maybe adding those WAHTCTW leaks I've been suggesting for a while now if that isn't a bother 😇

I also feel like some descriptions of certain entries like Turnin' Me Off [V1] and TYLA [V2] are too long and contain redundant details

I never got that whole 'greatest hits' idea for Michael Jackson; there wasn't anyone in the world who didn't have his best albums already lol
Iive always been intrigued by the idea of a reimagined decade releasing today. Add his hit songs from each decade (70s, 80s, 90s, etc), include a few outtakes and demos, and rename the album to "The Decades". It probably wouldnt work though since we have Number Ones and TUC

You could say there are three versions of '7 Digits'.
Two fully sung versions exist. They have slightly different lyrics. But they are essentially the same.
They are more like different vocal takes.

V3 would probably be the writing session itself.

To my knowledge, there are 4 versions of 'Turnin' Me Off'.
Michael's vocal take is the same on all of them, but there is one version with Siedah Garrett's backing vocals and two more that feature noticeably different instrumentals.

Throwing Your Life Away never got reworked as far as I know.

Agreed i always thought the "i am" lyric had a better flow to it. I absolutely love the track not a fan of the 08 version

it was changed strictly for the reason that MJ Did not want (or need) a song where he says “I am a Loser”. And to be honest, that’s real. It’s a lesson in self esteem.

Just remove the autotune from the 08 version and it’s an excellent sequel to Stranger in Moscow, along with Water.

For the TYLA part and why two versions are listed, Bill Bottrell's session calendar details that an initial version was tracked December 15th-16th before it got scrapped and redone into the version we know today on December 22nd, 1986.

But thanks to you and @threepea11 for issuing corrections. I'll get right on it later today or tomorrow.

I wonder if the first TYLA is a totally different song or if it has the same structure as the one we have

I am sure that there are more songs. They considered 24 tracks for XSCAPE. There was a songs named „Turning Me Off“ that was considered for that album. Then there is „I Was The Loser“, „Hot Fun In The Summertime“ and „Jungle“. And I was told that there are 4 usable songs from 2005-2009. Then we have will.i.am and redone-tracks and so on.

@Fuzball What’s your source about „Truth about Youth“?
I don't know about these unreleased tracks, but the title "Hot Fun In The Summertime" does not sound like a song MJ would sing.
