"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

I hope they do go forward with a second movie. Must have been gutting to the whole team that they had to change it so much.
The interviews and the aftermath will be really interesting, given how much actors loathe massive overhauls to what they signed onto. Thats of course IF even a percentage of the rumours are true.

Well, it shouldn't be too dramatic, but also not too vanilla imo...I hope they bring across how much Michael had to deal with. I think it's an important part of his life, formed his character and made him who he was. People need to understand that about him, that's why it is nonsense to only show "Michael at his best". He was that great because of his background, it made him a fighter throughout his whole life.
I second that. I think a middle way would be a good idea. As a sensitive person, I will not watch the movie in the cinema if there will be explicit violence. I will then wait for the movie to be streamed and skip those scenes. At the same time, it shouldn't turn the known past into something it really wasn't. I think it is possible to show Joe in a critical but not derogative way. I don't think the movie will call Joe to account - and I think that that's ok, because that is a private matter and a Biopic on Michael is not the place for that. But Michael's childhood should still be shown in a way that Michael could relate to. Imho "The Jacksons, An American Dream" has done well with that.

Having watched the trailer a couple of times now, I'm not sure how I feel about it.

I don't want to be negative when everyone feels so positively about it, but that Beat It section looks more like the Wii game from 15 years ago than a film, it just feels very artificial. A lot of the trailer feels CGI heavy to me

The Bad section looks great (aside from that initial Moonwalk being a bit off) I wish more of it was based off the Bad era as Jaafar looks most like Mike from that period.

I think Colin Domingo as Joseph was inspired casting, same with Nia Long as Katherine.

I'm still looking forward to it coming out and hearing Michael's blasted on big cinema speakers.

The Beat it section looks extremely artificial, surely they could have easily filmed a more authentic Beat it video.

The still image of Jaafar as Michael in beat it looks horrendous and fake.

Did you see how bad the CGI crowd was at the Wembley show? Yikes!!

You mean it doesn’t look like the music video?
Yeah mate, I just don't think it looks real or very much like the music video. It looks like a video game rather than film

Now granted this is just a screenshot from the video, but it's got more depth and texture than the released still from the Michael biopic. The still of Jaafar looks like a video game cut scene

You’re comparing a blurry screenshot to a (photoshopped) promotional picture. Kinda rankling my brain dude, honestly. They weren’t supposed to be 1:1.

For all we know
That's the thing. We don't know. We don't need to know. I don't care to speculate or second-guess what might or might not be in the movie. They've not told us. So what?

I'll just wait and see, and then judge it accordingly. Hint: if it's not his whole life story then I will judge it very harshly.

You couldn't really skip over his marriage
Exactly.

Anybody watching this "biopic" will be left with questions like "why didn't he ever marry?" and "he seemed to love kids, I wonder if he ever had any of his own?"

I saw someone saying that Letterboxd lists the runtime as 136 minutes.
Lots of biopics get famously criticised for their running length.
* Jersey Boys (134 minutes)
* Mary, Queen of Scots (128 minutes)
* Oppenheimer (180 minutes)

Both good points... it would make sense to use CG in such cases. I just wish it looked more natural. Maybe my eyes are too good, lol.
I remember a quote by Katherine somewhere about Michael insisting on a white faced chimpanzee (i looked it up, it's the east African sub species) and how this one is rare and was difficult to get. So a film trained individual might be especially hard to get. Maybe that's another reason for faking bubbles.

What do you guys think about the teaser publication date? What could be a reason to announce it on Grammy show but not actually show it and then do it on a Monday? Seems of to me and as if either Grammys didn't want the trailer or the film company didn't want to be mixed into all the political and celebrity news of the awards 🤔
I can't see a good reason to choose a Monday. Since no celebration of number of views are being shared here i assume it was not massive too?

Whatever about the comparison, that is not the kind of image to promote your film with. It absolutely looks like CGI.
You mean just like that first poster was not the one to waste man hours on?

This is the same estate that gave us Thriller 40 with a new font and Bad remixed with Pitbull. They’re trying to rein themselves in this time.

I feel like I’m agreeing with the critics in this case, yeah it’s stupid. But they’re trying their best this time.

I don’t think you’re allowed to use real animals on certain productions anymore, that will be why they had to CGI bubbles.

They have used CGI on most things it appears, so bubbles is no exemption

Also, I conclude from the cast and trailer that private non family relationships, I.e. girlfriends, will not be covered. I feel that this would be an important part of his life and groundwork for a prospective second part though. I would be interested in your opinions on that?

I’ve seen a few clips from The Beatles filming with screaming fans etc and it’s making me jealous as it looks appropriate for the time period. I doubt those films will use so much CGI to the point where it looks fake.

The actors share little resemblance to the fab 4 but they appear to be doing things right.

I liked this analysis of the new poster:

"The second official poster for the Michael Jackson biopic doesn’t do what most movie posters are designed to do (and neither does the teaser, for that matter).
It doesn’t introduce a cast.
It doesn’t foreground narrative.
It doesn’t explain tone or plot.
Instead, it leans into something far more deliberate: iconography, with perhaps a hidden message. Like everything else with this film so far, that choice feels intentional — and it tells us a lot about how it’s being positioned before a single frame of footage is widely seen.
This poster announces Michael Jackson not as a character to be discovered, but as an icon already embedded in collective memory."
