"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

We’ve not even had MITM in the trailers yet people demanding hot street be in the movie 🤣

That shit got left off Thriller for a reason back in 1982.
I take any day Hot Street than MITM, that would be awesome to hear Hot Street in the movie.

The trailers seem alright, but there are something I'm scared honestly, it's they give Joe Jackson (but also his family) the ultimate bad role who could explain why Michael has such problems in his adult life etc.... and in the same time they seem avoid to blame the media for example or others peoples who have manipulated him around him.

For example I strongly dislike how they seem to imply that Michael didn't want to make the Victory tour, which it's true, but not because of his brothers or his father, simply because he hated the tour, whatever it's Triumph, Victory, Bad etc.... I dislike when he say he wanted to do his own things, but basically Bad tour is just Victory 2.0; maybe I see too much; but I hope it's not a way to discredit a good portion of his career (with his brothers), his best tour and the moment he was the most fabulous during Thriller.
I don't think he hated touring back then. He was definitely pressured doing Victory Tour. At the time a solo tour would have made more sense for his career.

In this occasion I would put Hot Street on car radio soundtrack for upcoming GTA VI, the same as it was with Billie Jean for Vice City.
It is perfect song for this purpose.

Don't you think this is now contradicting?
No I don’t.

As much as I like Hot Street , Billie Jean is on another stratosphere and its legacy speaks for itself.

Hot street is dated in comparison and if it were to be released as it is, it will completely bomb.

I’d rather have it reworked and made modern and throw on a big feature artist to give it the best chance to be a hit.

I just read an article that claimed Antoine Fuqua is refusing to cut a 9 minute scene that studio fears will "alienate" the fan base from the film.

The 9 minutes in question are reported to be a near minute by minute account of Michael passing away.

I've lost the article and to be fair, it was very tabloid. Just wondering if anybody else had heard this?
This would have been a good post for the rumours and spoilers thread, no?

I wouldn’t believe it tbh, most likely a fake article

Just shows you how timeless MJ is really. Thriller was top 10 last year
I would guess Thriller being Halloween themed has something to do with it. Old Christmas songs by José Feliciano, Johnny Mathis, & Paul McCartney hit the Top 10 every year. But when was the last time they got airplay for a new track? All 3 of them still release albums.

I know they can't but I would love to see something every day for the film. The last video they did was really cool. I hope we can get some behind the scene pieces, maybe even full performances.

The sort of thing that would've been DVD extras all those years ago. Do they still do those for films?!

They do but there is usually less content nowdays. The new Superman movie from last year has good extras in my opinion. I don't know if this is the case always but DVDs seem to only have the movie. Extras are for Blu-Ray/4K.

If Mike was still alive and released a newly recorded song, it is unlikely to get on Top 40 radio today. He's would be too old. Top 40 has always been primarily targeted to teens & young adults. In general, young people don't want to listen to their parents music artists, and especially not an artist whose first record came out in the 1960s. That would be the equivalent of a singer/band popular in 1925 getting on the radio or on MTV when Thriller was released.
With the weak music that's currently in the charts, it would be easier than ever for Michael to get into the charts.

Hot Street isn't single material and was left off for a reason. You can't put Hot Street next to songs like WBSS, Human Nature, PYT, Billie Jean or even Beat It and think it would win. It would've been better as a b-side to a Thriller single.

In the teaser, Hot Street is pinned to the bulletin board alongside Billie Jean and Beat It. This shows that the song is not entirely meaningless.

Yeah, just release a soundtrack with a million spoken segues from the film around 30 seconds each and they will all count as 1 play on streaming charts!

A lot of fans going into this will be familiar with Thriller , Beat it and Billie Jean , there’s a hell of a lot of big hitters still to be discovered that will be in the movie.

I doubt hot street will be a song that stays with them upon leaving.

A song could chart at #99 on the Hot 100, but that doesn't mean it will get Top 40 radio airplay. Older artists do sometimes get airplay for new songs on Adult Contemporary & Adult R&B stations. Anyway, having a hit today doesn't really mean the same thing as it did decades ago. Since it's more based on streaming instead of people buying a a 45 record single. Drake has over 300 songs chart on the Hot 100 (pop chart) in Billboard, more than anyone else in history. I doubt anybody can name all of them & its unlikely the general public has even heard most of Drake's "hits". Every song on an album can chart at the same time if the act is very popular, it's not only radio singles. If Drake or Taylor Swift had those multiple 5 second interludes Janet Jackson had on her albums, those would chart for them, even though they're not really a song. The 1993 janet. album has 27 tracks, plus an unlisted hidden song.

During the phone leaks released recently he seemed to talk tours in general, if I remember correctly for him it was a waste of time because most shows would be lost, he have compared that to movies, I don't think that changed something to be in solo or not, Bad was basically the same thing that the Victory but less good and extented to 2 years, he disliked to be forced to be in hotel etc...

I would have loved to see in solo tour during Thriller, at least for some concert, it was Dileo plan in late 84/85 for Europe (according his interview in a french documentary) or to do a big show.

Maybe the first leg was like Victory Tour but it was very different after it. I think think he performed much better on Bad Tour.

Disagree with you, everything were better in Victory tour, Michael was in his prime, his moonwalk was vastly better, the late legs for bad were not too different too, that still 70% the same thing, that also this moment he have begun to do playback in tour.

I completely disagree about moonwalk. I don't think it looked very impressive on Victory Tour but it did improve during the tour (compare Kansas to later shows). Then it got better on Bad Tour 87 leg but still wasn't the best and he finally perfected it in 88. Just my opinion.

I hate his moonwalk in Bad tour he was forced and heavier, in Victory he seem to fly lol, agree to disagree here, imo it's night and day.

If the movie features any unreleased songs, it has to be because those songs add something to the movie, not just because they want to throw an unreleased song in there to release it as a single. The biopic will still be watched 30 years from now, so it needs to be timeless, and adding a scene just to try and get a quick hit with an unreleased song is not how you make a timeless movie. If there are unreleased songs that are perfect for certain scenes in the biopic, then by all means use them. But don't create a scene that would otherwise not really be important to the story just so you can play an unreleased song and try to sell it with the movie.

I’m not talking in terms of releasing now, I’m saying the song wasn’t strong enough for Thriller.
