recorded in January - February 1986, mixed January 3, 1987. I thought recording dates were known so I just focused on when each mix was actually done, not recordedAccording to Bill, Price of Fame is early 1986 and the Pepsi version is 1987
This one’s a mystery. Years ago, an alleged snippet of the vocal session leaked online where MJ is chatting in the recording studio. Matt Forger was looking for it for inclusion on Bad 25 but wasn’t able to find a version with MJ’s vocals; however, some years later, a tape box of Bad era cassettes went up for sale, and one of the tapes was labeled “Groove of Midnight.” It could’ve been Rod’s writers’ demo for all we know; nobody ever followed up.Who knows about groove of midnight
My guess is MJ did record Groove of Midnight. This one’s a mystery. Years ago, an alleged snippet of the vocal session leaked online where MJ is chatting in the recording studio. Matt Forger was looking for it for inclusion on Bad 25 but wasn’t able to find a version with MJ’s vocals; however, some years later, a tape box of Bad era cassettes went up for sale, and one of the tapes was labeled “Groove of Midnight.” It could’ve been Rod’s writers’ demo for all we know; nobody ever followed up.
My personal conspiracy theory is that Rod wouldn’t sign off on its inclusion since he was allegedly butting heads with the estate, so they either told Forger to say it didn’t exist or purposefully hid the tapes prior to archiving to give him plausible deniability.
Or maybe MJ really didn’t record it, and the leaked snippet just captured him ad-libbing the song randomly while recording a different track. Who knows?
Interesting stuff about Buffalo Bill, always was and will be my holy grail.More on Victory left-overs.

She already confirmed that there is one, and she said Michael's version is practically the same as hers.I'd assume Siedah Garrett would know if there is a MJ version.
The Estate mentioned "Who Do You Know" was considered for "Victory" so we can already fill in 4 of the songs. Maybe "The Hurt" is the 5th song? The Estate also said on the same post that Michael shelved WDYK in favor of it.The article mentions 5 contributions from Michael. I wonder if Behind the Mask was one of those?
Michael first wrote and started work on this song in 1980 but was still working on it in February 1982 and considered it as a song for the Thriller album. When it failed to make the cut for “Thriller”, Michael considered it again for The Jacksons’ Victory album but chose to contribute three other songs to that album: “State of Shock”, “Be Not Always” (co-written with his brother Marlon) and “The Hurt” (co-written with his brother Randy, David Paich and Steve Porcaro).
I always thought it was 1985 but do you have a source for your claim?Al Capone - 1984 (was worked on till 1986)
An engineer (I forgot his name, Larry something) was present in a Miami studio (Critera) when himself, MJ & Barnes worked on AC during their Victory tour stop.I always thought it was 1985 but do you have a source for your claim?

Past Jackson’s albums sounded nicely recorded to me…More on Victory left-overs.

Michael did record "Groove of Midnight." If there's one piece of music that would be perfect for the biopic, it's this one. I don't know which version is on the sold DAT, but there's a cassette from the day "Groove of Midnight" was recorded. It's essentially what you hear in the snippet, except it's the full song.My guess is MJ did record Groove of Midnight.
Not Triumph.Past Jackson’s albums sounded nicely recorded to me…

Okay your post mentioned recording dates not mixing so that’s why I mentioned itrecorded in January - February 1986, mixed January 3, 1987. I thought recording dates were known so I just focused on when each mix was actually done, not recorded
Mumbled verses and full chorusJust more confirmation that Buffalo Bill is releasable.
