The Official 'Michael' Bio-Pic Thread

It seems that right after the Cascio lawsuit had gone in public Lionsgate asked the Estate: "Are there any hidden surprises that we're not aware of that can prevent or interfere with the release?" But it's just a hypothesis. My opinion is that the Estate always knew but it's the studio that decided to cut off the scenes.
From the interview with lionsgates CEO he claims that the MJ Estate delivered the message that they could not use the scenes. Its being described that Fuqua had the directors cut ready to hand in when they got the message. At least from that interview it sounded like the Estate raised the alarm and told Lionsgate it was a no go. Of course it could have been triggered by Lionsgate asking if there were more skeletons in the closet than the Cascio settlement as you said.

I find it odd that I have not seen more chat and people questioning exactly how the estate realize the 1993/94 settlement was a problem. Its just a strange story overall.

You seem like a very bitter and negative individual.
That's certainly the way some people are framing it.

As I said, I'm completely apathetic about the movie. I don't want the movie to succeed. I don't want the movie to fail. There's a difference between that and being a hater. But I'm not here to teach logic, so I'll leave it there.

Can you just let people enjoy stuff, dude? It’s fine that you aren’t interested, it’s fine that you want to engage in conversation, but you consistently quote people who are expressing their opinions and belittling or cutting them down for no reason.
People are free to like whatever, and talk about whatever. For the most part, I simply provide corrections about things that are factually wrong.

Another thing I'll try to curtail are these ridiculous attempts to start trouble. For whatever reason, some people seem to think everything is a war between Michael and everybody else.

Example 1: We must all hate Queen and criticise their music because it's MJ versus Freddie because of these movies. He's the current "record holder" and therefore the enemy.

Example 2: "I bet Presley is pissed because the MJ movie overtook the Elvis one".

No. Both of these takes are childish and start confrontation and negativity where there shouldn't be any. I'll try to stamp that nonsense out whenever I see it.

I don't know about Amy or Last King of Scotland box office ( LKoS was a very bad movie imho), but Michael is going straight to the billion dollars. So, who cares about your opinion or mine?
While I recognise the only aim of every filmmaker is to make as much money as possible, I've said many times that profits do not matter to anybody else in the world. They don't affect you or me, that's why I don't care about them. For me, the only thing that matters is whether I enjoy watching it. I don't consider something to be a good movie just because "it went straight to the billion". Jeez.

This certainly seems watertight so no surprise the movie cant include it.
That's not what it says. It did not mention Lionsgate at all. They didn't sign any such agreement. Just remove the "estate" from the picture and there's nothing they can do about it.

Thanks beltrano.

Obviously this doesn’t have the media support, or long theatre run that Bo Rap had but, looking at numbers so far, I think it could end up being in the top 3/4 biopics of all time! 👍👏

Any idea where to find sales numbers for the 'Michael' music album? Would like to know how many copies been sold so far. Especially the audio cassette, since it's a release I did not expect.

MICHAEL BOX OFFICE

DOMESTIC (33.9%)
$144,203,832
INTERNATIONAL (66.1%)
$280,620,765
WORLDWIDE
$424,824,597

**up to and including Friday 1st May
Imagine being a global oligarch thinking you have control of everything and MJ is not around to threaten your criminal empire. Then suddenly, people are protesting and you keep hearing "They Don't Care About Us" on blast and the MJ movie is breaking records in theatres.

The man is ruling from the grave!!!!

I am playing Billie Jean. Human Nature, Beat It and Thriller on spotify 24/7. When I am not awake I am using a playlist where I insert a couple other songs in between so spotify dont see it as bot activity.

Strategic decision to only play these songs atm! Hopefully we can get Billie Jean to number 1 🫶🙏

ok so I've seen the movie 4 times now and I love it despite its historical inaccuracies and my nitpicks lol (biopics have to take creative liberties), but i am DYING to know why paris jackson says that it's "fantasy land" and that it panders to a certain faction of her dad's fanbase. she shouldn't say such ambiguous things like that because the media will run with it and say that she believes her dad is guilty. does she really believe that now??? i fail to see how "sugarcoated" the movie was. of course MJ was not perfect. maybe he was a bit of a diva sometimes for lack of a better term lol and we didn't see him use his actual voice and maybe stuff like that is what she's alluding to...? his public persona vs. the person she knew? but does that mean she thinks he wasn't a great person? do you guys think she actually believes the cascios now? it freaks me out that she might now think that her dad is guilty

sorry for bringing up something negative, but this is actually driving me insane lol like why would she say something like that (the reasons) AND why would she say something like that (when she most likely knows that the media will have a field day with it)?

I went to my 2nd viewing last night and leaving the mega-fan glasses at home and appreciating the story for what they told about the man, and not about why they didnt cover x or why they chose to tell Y differently - I had a blast. The family behind me were singing and going crazy during lots of songs. I even sang along (quietly) to Human Nature. When you realise this is a film about "the man" and not "the man who did Smooth Criminal" or something, it's very entertaining.

I've upped it to a 7. And I'll go again.

Also, Heartbreak Hotel got a noticeable remix/update in the credits.

We already have several threads about Paris, please check 🙂

What are the chances the movie hits 2 billion? It’ll definitely make a billion for sure. I mean, it’s only been 10 days and it’s already nearing 500 million. But the most interesting part is that in some countries, it doesn't even open until June! That means it’ll definitely be in theaters all through May and June

She saw only the first draft…

It doesn't have a chance of hitting 2 billion, sorry. 1 billion is optimistic at this point - and that is not a bad thing. It doesn't "need" to break a billion. I think around 800m is the realistic projection.

actually path over a billion dollars.

Sorry, beltrano (as you’re my favourite poster 😉) but I agree with innuendo on this.

The film is doing AMAZING numbers but, it’s run is coming to an end in most major territories (unless someone can tell me otherwise), and the numbers will slow right down.

June will give the film a boost, when it opens in Japan. 👍 But not enough, from what I hear, to get near 1 billion total.

Given the long run, and relative lack of competition that Bo Rap had (not to mention all out media support!), MICHAEL would have smashed 1 billion, for sure.

As it is, I think $650-700 million will be fantastic. 💪
