Hello,
I came up with an idea today that we US fans can do or hopefully do. Since MJ was born here in America and he contributed a lot to humanity and he was a humanitarian, etc. I say we find a way to write President Obama and ask him to declare either June 25 or August 29 Michael Joseph Jackson day. I'm not sure what day they honor people, the day they are born or the day they pass away. But what do you all say. Yes?? I came up with this idea but it doesn't mean I really know how to get in touch with Obama. But I guess we all know the address to the White House, lol!

I'm not from USA (I'm from Canada) but I so agree with this idea!

I think August 29th should be official worldwide Michael Joseph Jackson day.

Martin Luther King has his day, Michael deserves one for all he has done for humanity!

I don,t know how to proceed or how long it could take, maybe after couple of months, when people really realize all Michael did good in his life, they'll be more confortable with the idea... since some people could argue about the 'controversy'...

I really hope it works, Michael deserves that!

I'm in!

Here are some Facebook groups that support the idea:

I agree... Michael was a first in doing the charity, in the 20th and 21st century way before Angelina and everyone.. I think that he is a great example to look up to.

I agree, but I think it should be made a world wide day, Michael didn't just do good things for the US....

I understand that Grace. I was thinking we'd write to the President of the United States, but being a worldwide thing, well I wouldn't know what to do.

Obama would be the one to contact for making June 25th MJ day, here in America. I guess fans from other countries would have to do their own campaign so to speak to make it MJ day world wide.

BTW: I'm in, Michelle!

You can also email the Prez at the white house. Search the web for the white house link, and click contact us.

Yeah I came up with the idea, but not sure how to do this in the most effective way where it would go through. Thanks earthy for your idea and anyone else's ideas are welcomed.

I guess then see post #11 on this thread and start seeing what you can do in your country.

I'm ALL for this...

I just think it would be better if it was his Birthday though.
That's the date usually used as Holidays :cheeky:

Thanks. I wasn't sure if it was the day the person passed or their birthdays.

I'm in! It is a wonderful idea!

And I also think it should be worldwide too. But maybe that would be a harder or longer process, I don't know.

And yes, we do need a more effective way to do this.

Also, we have to get other MJ fans in the U.S. to know about this idea too. Not much people visit this part of the forum. The majority visit other areas.

Maybe we can move this thread to the general discussion area so it can get more views and ideas...

Whatever has to be done to get more US MJ fans involved. Like I said I came up with the idea but that doesn't mean I have an idea of how to put it together. So if this does need to be moved, will a moderator please move this? Thank you.

i like this idea! i would love to help were i can, but im not American. :(

People have posted here about Michael having a day worldwide and I agree with that, so when we in America can get this thing together, I'm thinking we should ask Obama to talk to leaders of other countries and asking them to do the same? Or would it be better if those from other countries just ask their presidents?
I'm not sure and again, US fans, I thank you for counting yourselves in, but because I thought of this idea, it doesn't mean I have the organization in mind. I think somehow we need to either email or write Obama with our signatures all on one letter or email. I haven't the faintest idea how to do that, lol!

Maybe we should start with a petition like the one that was done for the Noble Peace Prize nomination(s)...?

I think there is a site
http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/make-august-29th-michael-jackson-day-worldwide.html

As we all know Michael Jackson's legacy wasn't just his music but so much more. It should be made a worldwide day. One person can't make a difference but we ALL can… I would like Michael Jackson Fans around the world to participate in a wonderful charity event in his honor every year. MJ fans around the world could do something for charity on this day. You can donate your time to a soup kitchen or shelter, donate to a food drive, Take toys to children at a hospitals. Hold a yard sale and donate the proceeds to a charity in your community. You can also be a part of MJJC LEGACY PROJECT - Make That Change!

I signed the peitition. Where would it go, to the leaders of the country or where? Should we just leave it at this petition or try to do more? Thanks Jadore for posting that link.

If the president was Bill Clinton, then I think he would have already done it without the need for any signatures.

I think he really liked Michael and appreciated everything he's done.

I don't think Obama feels the same way. I think he thinks he's a "freak". That's the vibe I got from an interview.
