Controversial MJ Documentary Leaving Neverland [GENERAL DISCUSSION THREAD]

Re: Sundance Festival 2019 - Controversial MJ Documentary "Leaving Neverland"

See Robson and Safechuck here at the Q & A crying their ass of for fame... I am so so so angry.

What abuse victim gets up on stage and does a f***** Q&A?

Re: Sundance Festival 2019 - Controversial MJ Documentary "Leaving Neverland"

Disagree with you here elusive. The strategy of ignoring any old rumor about MJ makes sense, as long as the attention it garners is limited. But I think you are underestimating how much attention this is already getting. Now think of the attention it will get once it actually airs on tv/streaming services. Ignoring it so that you do not bring more attention to it does not work if everybody is already paying attention to it...

Yeah, they're just gonna let this thing take over headlines and it will be even worse when it appears on all the popular streaming services and is broadcast on TV all over the world.

Yeah, it's a #MeToo case alright. When James saw Wade go for the money grab, he went "me too."

It's so disheartening to see MJ's name get dragged through the mud again. It's reminding me of 03-05 given the amount of attention this is getting. But we now live in an era where, more than ever before, people side with accusers no matter how credible they are. And unlike in previous years, Michael is not here to defend himself. He's the easiest of targets.

The Estate's statement was good. I do hope they continue to closely monitor how much play this is getting. If this thing continues to gain traction over the next couple of days, then the Estate should seriously start prepping some sort of rebuttal. That Take 2 documentary in 2003 was thrown together in a few weeks. They will have more time now until this hits the airwaves. Taj's documentary series, if it ever even gets to be made, is important but will come way too late to counteract the initial damage this is going to do...

I don’t agree that people side with accusers now more than ever before. In 93 the tape there Evan Chandler says he is going to win big time and everything is going according to a plan that is not just his he paid people in certain position etc was played on international news station but all the Chandlers lawyer ”the mean son of bitch” had to do was to say that money was never mentioned on the tape (which it actually was) and then the media just ignored that.

Re: Sundance Festival 2019 - Controversial MJ Documentary "Leaving Neverland"

damn this is very very bad, i feel the storm is comming.

Wade seems to be upset cause of fail to get into Immortal show, and this looks like revenge to Estate.

i read most of the replies here, but still don't get what about Safechuck? what is he about?

Sundance's Michael Jackson documentary brings strong feelings to Park City premiere

The film, a four-hour documentary directed by Dan Reed, features interviews with two men who knew Jackson when they were boys. Wade Robson and James Safechuck each filed separate lawsuits against the Jackson estate after the singer's death, claiming that the pop star had molested them as children.

Both men attended the "Leaving Neverland" première.

When Sundance announced in January that they had accepted "Leaving Neverland" as an official 2019 selection, Jackson's brother Jermaine Jackson posted on Facebook that the documentary "is based on the falsified claims of molestation by the hands of Michael Jackson," and urged fans to sign an online petition against the film. The petition currently has over 52,000 signatures.

In response, Sundance issued a statement to its corporate sponsors indicating that it planned to screen the film at the festival, stating that the "Sundance Institute supports artists in enabling them to fully tell bold, independent stories, stories on topics which can be provocative or challenging."

Rumors that a protest at the film's première was in the works prompted Park City police and Sundance to take extra security precautions.

"To the best of my knowledge, this is the most tightened security that we've had at this venue," said Tela Moss, Egyptian Theatre manager and festival volunteer.

But when the protestors arrived, they found more security officers than protesters.

The protesters, who did not coordinate as a group, arrived separately. Brenda Jenkyns and Catherine Van Tighem drove 13 hours from Calgary, Canada, to show their support for Jackson.

"If he was alive, he could defend himself but he can't. So we are here," Jenkyns said.

Robson, who testified at the singer's 2005 sexual misconduct trial, stated at the time that Jackson never molested him, and Jackson was eventually acquitted of all charges. In 2013, Robson, a dancer who has worked on the show "So You Think You Can Dance," filed a claim that Jackson had in fact molested him over a seven-year-time period, but a court ruled that Robson filed his lawsuit too late to receive funds from the singer's estate.

Madsen is skeptical of Robson's changing account of his relationship with Jackson.

"I am here to defend the honor of Michael Jackson," said Madsen, "who was a purely decent and honorable human being who deserved absolutely none of the lies that he has had to put up with."

There have been no reports that either Robson or Safecheck received payment for their role in the documentary, nor have they received a settlement from the Jackson estate.

Following the "Leaving Neverland" première and the Q&A with Reed, Robson and Safecheck, moviegoer Debbie Sanlorenzo, of Park City, was visibly moved by the film and disturbed by what the film revealed."It's so sad," she said.

Brenda Jenkins and Morgan Steffen, who are protesting "Leaving Neverland," a documentary about Michael Jackson, talk to Geraldine Hughes, the author of "Redemption: The Truth Behind the Michael Jackson Child Molestation Allegations," outside of the Egyptian Theatre during the Sundance Film Festival in Park City on Friday, Jan. 25, 2019.

Re: Sundance Festival 2019 - Controversial MJ Documentary "Leaving Neverland"

Notice how Wade keep saying 'it is not about michael', 'michael is dead' they are trying to rationalise what they are doing to themselves. While lying he keeps reminding himself that MJ is dead so he should not feel any remorse. I have never never ever liked him and always felt he would accuse MJ when money runs out.

Good catch. I think this is exactly how he manages to live with himself knowing that he is throwing Michael under the bus.

Unfortunately, what is so potentially damaging about this is accusations are being made on film. That’s never really been done before, even back during the trial and the ‘93 allegations. Jordan and Gavin never made accusations on camera.

Exactly. This film could even be nominated for an award - imagine that!

Jackson family and Michael Jackson Estate: sue them!!! Find a way!!!

I think that now it’s too early to count the damage, let’s give it some time, I’m sure that people are tired and I don’t think that there’s going the same impact as 1993/2003 but now the Estate and the family must do whatever it takes to shutdown the matter once for all. In Italy the media haven’t shown much interest at least until now. They were giving the news and that’s all. I hope I’m not wrong.:praying:praying:praying

Re: Sundance Festival 2019 - Controversial MJ Documentary "Leaving Neverland"

I expected it to be bad, but I didn't expect it to be THIS bad.

Absolutely nobody is on Michael's side as far as the media goes. According to the reviews, the entire documentary is hearsay and doesn't provide a single piece of legitimate evidence, but journalists are pushing that aside in favor of how "emotional" and "graphic" it is.

I'm at a loss for words truthfully.

The Jackson estate should contact journalists like Ronan Farrow who wrote the Harvey Weinstein article for the New Yorker magazine. Ask him to do an investigative piece on Michael, the allegations, Hollywood cover-up, scapegoating etc. Like the one Mary Fischer did for GQ magazine in 1994.

Guys it’s all a balancing act between not drawing too much attention to this doc and actually fighting against it.

We are are at the stage where it is starting to get reported more in the press. That’s because of Sundance. It will die down again until it’s shown on HBO and Channel 4 to a much wider audience.

Between now and then the Estate will have to do some very targeted, matter of fact, straight to the point rebuttals to cast doubt in the public’s mind on these liars.

If it all blows up after it airs on TV then they will have to go on an all out attack. People like Wade and Jimmy can’t get away with such slanderous accusations.

Before then however, the Estate have to be a bit more measured.

Keep the faith. This too shall pass.

What if this could make Jordan Chandler finally come out and say he was never abused. Wishful thinking but you should never say never.

Yeah i agree. It is a balancing act. It goes as quick as it comes..at this stage dont give them what they want.

Should be obvious to taj that those journos were picked etc to attend and write reviews. Its all caculated to build hype for when the gen public can actually get to see it.

Yeah... I posted here yesterday, but I think the post was overlooked, that the best thing for MJ and us what could happen now is that Jordan Chandler finally find the courage to step out in front of the camera and tell the truth!
This is the best time EVER for him now to do this and free his soul!!
Cause now he could be a little hero who can expect a litte support from MJs Fans, he was very scared about his whole life.
He could also be a strong witness against Wade Robson (who said that "EVERY night we were togther, it happened. There was not ONE night where did not sexual abused me.")
Cause maybe he was in the room with him.
It whould be interesting to find out who was also in the room with Wade and MJ to expose this as a awful lie. There must be more children at the slumber parties who were in the room with Wade and MJ.

Like someone said yesterday, the whole R Kelly thing can't really be debunked but MJ... oh man, sooooo many facts. This one sided documentary really doesn't have to be all there is, let's give them OUR answer now. I don't agree with that it's probably better to stay quiet and let this go over, not give it enough attention.

Sue these lowlife punks to hell, they have the finances for it, that shouldn't be an issue at all. Attack them back, HARD! Do this and make a long ass documentary too and find a way to air it on TV, on all available apps, any-effin where! Ten ****ing years after this amazing person left this rotten ass world and he's still being shat on in so many ways. Oh man if I had been his family with that kind of money, I'd be showing these human waste truly a hell.

Re: Sundance Festival 2019 - Controversial MJ Documentary "Leaving Neverland"

I'm fond of the statement the Estate made after the film premiered. The subtle jabs to the accusers make me proud.

Probably but he was then 25 and more likely to think this is not my problem I will just refuse to testify and Evan Chandler and Tom Sneddon are now dead. This has always reminded me of the story of Thomas Quick which I posted before. Huge very emotional mediathing and a DA with a history of malisious prosecution. I hope Paris and her brothers are ok. I’m glad they have their cousions.

So sadly as expected sites have been picking up on this happening. But how has the news on TV been so far for you guys? Did any of the actual "real" news programs cover it yet?

Re: Sundance Festival 2019 - Controversial MJ Documentary "Leaving Neverland"

I haven't seen this anywhere except the fan forums, think I'll avoid the boards for a few weeks and enjoy the Michael we know

Pretty much all the comment sections I have read people don’t believe this BS. Yahoo articles and many others as well. I’m sure the estate has people working it and so far are doing a good job. It is discusting at what some people are saying but I’m sure they were already haters. Onnce the truth gets up supported by facts things will sway towards MJ. Give it a few days we will see a change.
