The GRAMMY Tribute - Jackson style.​

MANILA, Philippines – Michael Jackson’s 2 eldest children accepted his posthumous lifetime achievement award at the 52nd Grammy Awards.
Prince and Paris Jackson were accompanied by their cousins Tarryl, TJ and Taj Jackson of music group 3T when they accepted the award from presenter Lionel Richie.

Prince and Paris wore black suits and red armbands, reminiscent of their father's style. They were greeted by a standing ovation as they walked hand-in-hand onstage.

"Thank you. We are proud to be here to accept this award on behalf of our father, Michael Jackson," the 12-year-old Prince said. "First of all we'd like to thank God for watching over us for these past 7 months and our grandma and grandpa for their love and support. We'd also like to thank the fans. Our father loved you so much because you were always there for him." “Our father was always concerned about the planet and humanity. Through all his hard work and dedication, he has helped many charities and donated to all of them. Through all his songs, his message was simple: love. We will continue to spread his message and help the world. Thank you. We love you daddy.”

Paris, 11, added: “Daddy was supposed to be here. Daddy was gonna perform this year but he couldn't perform last year. Thank you. We love you daddy.”

Jackson’s third child, 7-year-old Prince Michael II also known as “Blanket," did not go onstage.

Richie, who co-wrote “We Are The World” with Jackson, also opened the Grammys’ tribute to the late King of Pop.

“My friend, Michael Jackson, once said, ‘In a world filled with hate, we must still dare hope. In a world filled with despair, we must still dare to believe. In his too short time with us, Michael dared to believe in our power to make this world a better place,” said Richie.

The tribute featured the performance of the “Earth Song,” which was sung by Jennifer Hudson, Usher, Carrie Underwood, Smokey Robinson and Celine Dion. Jackson’s recording of the “Earth Song” was incorporated in the performance. Attendees at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California gave a standing ovation.

The 3-D short film, which was to accompany the “Earth Song” performance in Jackson’s “This Is Tour,” was shown during the tribute.
Jackson won a total of 13 Grammy Awards, plus the “Living Legend Award” which was presented to him by his sister, Janet, in 1993.
He died at age 50 on June 25, 2009 following a cardiac arrest.

Michael Jackson Grammy Tribute​

The King of Pop, a worldwide icon, who changed pop culture forever, will be honored at the Grammy’s, with a tribute to his work.
Former Jackson attorney Thomas Mesereau, it’s not the fame he remembers, but the kindhearted man he represented.​

"He was a great human being, and he was one of the greatest artists to ever walk the planet. He had great dreams of changing the world changing society through music and art and kindness," says Mesereau.​

But as famous as Jackson was, he was equally plagued with controversy, over multiple facial surgeries, and a highly publicized child molestation trial where he was eventually acquitted. ​

"I think it debilitated him emotionally, physically, he left the country after that," explains Mesereau.​

Controversy followed Jackson even into death. A criminal investigation is underway by the LAPD over suspicions that his doctor prescribed a fatal dose of pain killers.​

"He hasn't been charged yet my understanding is they are still interviewing witnesses as of a couple weeks ago," adds Mesereau.​

Mesereau hopes Jackson’s death is a lesson to all.​

"You have had Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Anna Nicole Smith and I hope doctors are getting the message they can't just frivolously and irresponsibly prescribe medication to people, and they can't just frivolously and irresponsibly prescribe medication in other people’s names."​

Ne-Yo, Natalie Cole and Ashanti have all revealed their favorite Michael Jackson songs of all time.​

The stars recently attended the 3rd Annual Midnight Grammy Brunch at the W Hollywood Hotel & Residences and shared what their favorite tune from the late pop icon was on the red carpet.

Speaking to Radar Online, Natalie Cole said: "I won my first talent contest singing 'Got To Be There' by Michael Jackson."

Singer/songwriter Ne-Yo shared that 'Lady In My Life' is his favorite Jackson song, while R&B star Ashanti admitted her ring tone is 'Pretty Young Thing'.

Lil Mama added: "He's a legacy in every household and let's just let the legacy live on."

Fan Buys Jackson’s Home

A Michael Jackson fan is now the proud owner of the Las Vegas mansion rented by the late pop icon in 2008. The mansion has been the gathering point for Jackson’s many grieving fans. The home sold for $3.1 million. The buyer was a doctor and lawyer couple who owns property in California and Asia. Their names were not disclosed by Vegas Fine estates, the [COLOR=#ed008c! important][COLOR=#ed008c! important]broker[/COLOR][/COLOR] working the deal.
The previous owner turned the property over to the bank to [COLOR=#ed008c! important][COLOR=#ed008c! important]avoid [COLOR=#ed008c! important]foreclosure[/COLOR][/COLOR][/COLOR] and the sale closed on Tuesday. The home is the largest sale in Las Vegas for the last twelve-month period.

Grammys: Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Michael Jackson, Eastman Grads

Hollywood - Beyonce took home six awards including Song of the Year for "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)." That's the most wins by a female in one night in the history of the Grammys.

Taylor Swift took home four awards including Album of the Year for "Fearless."

The rock group "Kings of Leon" beat out Lady Gaga and the Black Eyed Peas to win record of the year.

Michael Jackson was saluted at the ceremony with a rendition of "Earth Song." It was supposed to be a special part of the tour that never happened. His children Prince and Paris accepted a Lifetime Achievement award for their father.

Three Eastman School of Music graduates also won Grammys Sunday night.

Soprano Renée Fleming won in the Best Classical Vocal Performance category for her album of opera arias Verismo. In addition, Yo-Yo Ma & Friends: Songs of Joy and Peace, which featured Fleming, was named Best Classical Crossover Album. She had previously won two Grammys.

Tenor Anthony Dean Griffey appeared on the album Mahler: Symphony No. 8; Adagio from Symphony No. 10, which won Best Classical Album and Best Choral Performance. He had also won two Grammys last year as well.

Composer/arranger Bill Cunliffe won his first Grammy for Best Instrumental Arrangement for “West Side Story Medley,” which appears on the album Resonance Big Band Plays Tribute to Oscar Peterson.

Michael Jackson will always be with the Jacksons in spirit, if not in person, his brothers have said.
The musical brothers - Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon and Tito - were speaking out to promote their new reality TV show, The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty.
"Michael Jackson is always with us in our hearts," said Jackie.
"We were in the middle of production, but Michael would want us to continue on because he had an integral role. There's not a day we don't think of him - he was with us all the way."
The first episode of the series, airing on Sunday February 7, sees them dealing with the sudden death of the King of Pop last June.
"The cameras were shadowing us so we needed to take time to mourn Michael - we can't overlook our brother's passing," said Marlon. "The brothers mount differently in their own private way. We're still mourning today, but we learn to live with it."
Tito added: "No matter what, there's an emptiness constantly."

Asia's first Michael Jackson gallery unveiled in Macao

The Michael Jackson Gallery opened its doors to the public on Monday at Macao's Ponte 16 casino hotel, showcasing over 40 iconic items of MJ's career, including his famous rhinestone glove.
The opening ceremony of the Gallery, the first of its kind in Asia, was held Monday evening, which was attended by pop stars and local officials.
MJ's iconic items such as the rhinestone glove, a pair of crystal socks worn by him during his Victory Tour in 1984, MJ- signed Motown 25 Special Billie Jean Photo, his "Victory" Tour black fedora, and other items are displayed in the gallery's main exhibition hall.
Dubbed by fans as the "holy Grail of Michael Jackson memorabilia" and seen as the main attraction of the Gallery, the sparkling white glove is famed for being worn by Michael Jackson in 1983 at Motown's 25th anniversary TV special, where he performed Billie Jean and showcased the legendary Moonwalk for the very first time.
The Ponte 16 casino resort, which is half-owned by local gaming tycoon Stanley Ho's company SJM, paid about 350,000 U.S. dollars for the item at auctions held last year in New York.
Aside from the exhibition hall, the gallery also consists of a "time tunnel" that showed the most important moments of MJ's music life through pictures and videos, a music video showroom that plays his famous "Billie Jean" MV, and a gift shop.
Ambrose So, chairman of Ponte 16, said at the opening ceremony that they have spent a fortune on the collector items displayed at the gallery, and hoped that the gallery will become a tourist attraction at his hotel.

Missing the added-value features of the Michael Jackson tribute really hurts

3-D Country of Losers. By now, the Grammys feel a little old, but I am still fulminating for Canadians: When 3-D glasses – required eyewear for the show’s magnificent Michael Jackson tribute – began to be advertised in the United States as being available at Target weeks ago, why did no one up here say, “Hey, what about us?” No, we’re happy to have sat through the segment, staring through sharp pieces of red and blue glass, worried that we were missing too much of the Gordon Pinsent-hosted Love Letters, CBC’s rival offering. Thankfully, like all civilized people, I have my own pair, but am irritated to use my select adult-entertainment glasses for this purpose: Would you bring opera glasses to a ball game?

Video: Michael Jackson's Kids Steal The Show At Grammys

Music stars pull out all the stops and spare no expense to deliver unforgettable performances at the Grammys. This year's musical extravaganza featured many fantastic performances including Pink hovering about the stage doing a trapeze act, singing, spinning and dripping wet. The Grammys is a no-lip sync zone, it's remarkable that Pink was able to sing while doing her trapeze act.

Lady Gaga rocked the house, performing a medley of her hits that included a duet with Elton John.


But the most memorable and emotional moment was when the King of Pop's children Prince Michael and Paris took to the stage to accept the lifetime achievement award on their dad's behalf.
There were many tears shed that night, not only at the Staples Center where the event was held, but in millions of homes throughout the world.

Some critics complain that Jackson's children were exploited to pump up the ratings, and that's probably true. But it was good to see that Jackson's kids are doing well months after the death of their father

The night's biggest surprise was the appearance of Michael Jackson's children after Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Smokey Robinson and Usher sang Jackson's "Earth Song," backed by 3-D footage from the Jackson documentary "This Is It." After the song, two of the kids spoke, indicating Michael would have performed at this year Grammys. Said son Prince: "His message was simple -- love."

So on the night when Grammy wanted to crown a queen, the King of Pop had a final word.

MICHAEL’S CHILDREN ACCEPT THEIR FATHER’S AWARD

While Beyonce Knowles and Taylor Swift swept the board in the musical categories at the Grammys, the night was most memorable for the appearance by Prince Michael, 12, and Paris, 11, who accepted a posthumous lifetime achievement honour in Jackson's name.
Wearing miniature versions of the black suits and red armbands which were Jackson's on-stage uniform, they spoke with impressive composure about their father, who died in June last year.
It was the first public appearance for the Jackson children since the memorial service in July.

MJ 3D TRIBUTE IS A HIT AT GRAMMY’S

The much-awaited spectacle at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards was the 3-D live-and-film number with the King of Pop heard performing his "Earth Song," accompanied by on-stage stars as well as images from nature that had multitudes of Grammycast viewers peering through the red-and-blue-lensed 3-D glasses they scored beforehand from their local Target store.
This big event arrived about two-thirds into CBS' three-hour live shindig from Los Angeles' Staples Center.
It was introduced by Lionel Richie, who said the performance was meant by Jackson as a call to action against the destruction of Nature and animals by humans.
The performance began with footage of waterfalls and rain forests with Jackson heard declaring, "I respect the secrets and magic of Nature," as the song began its message of preserving the planet.
The lyrics were affecting enough: "Did you ever stop to notice all the blood we've shed before? Did you ever stop to notice this crying Earth, its weeping shores?"
But with the sight of a little girl blowing the seeds of a dandelion seemingly right into a viewer's living room, every viewer had to be captivated - at least, viewers with the 3-D glasses.
Viewers without glasses saw slightly offset red and greenish images. Not so captivating.
In turn, the background panoramic visuals were supplemented by onstage singers Celine Dion, Usher, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Smokey Robinson to powerful effect - and, when captured at the proper angles, they stood in distinct 3-D relief against the film background.
Through it all, Jackson reigned in photos across the sprawling panorama.
As Richie explained in his introduction, the performance piece was produced as a key element of Jackson's planned comeback concerts in London in July 2009 - shows that never happened because of his June 25 death in Los Angeles.
A part of the clip was included in Jackson's movie documentary "This Is It," but the full production of "Earth Song" had not been seen before and was billed by the Grammys as the first time an awards show had featured such a 3-D sequence.

GRAMMYS RATINGS HIT HIGH NOTE

Buoyed by multiple tributes to Michael Jackson, last night's Grammy Awards on CBS soared to their best viewership in nearly a decade.
The three-hour show averaged 26.6 million total viewers from 8 to 11 p.m., according to Nielsen overnights, up 40 percent over the 19 million who watched last year's show.
As a reminder, overnights measure timeslot data and not actual program data, and they do not account for time zone differences. Thus final numbers could adjust.
That was the best tune-in since 2001, when the show averaged 26.65 million viewers. The show drew a 10.0 rating among 18-49s, 35 percent better than last year and its best in six years.
The boost is no doubt largely due to the tributes to Jackson, which included a lifetime achievement award, accepted by two of his children, and a 3D video that he'd planned to play at the concert tour he'd been rehearsing for when he died last summer. A number of singers lent vocals to the video last night.

FRANK DILEO ACCEPTS GRAMMYS FOR MICHAEL JACKSON
Michael Jackson won yet another posthumous honor on Saturday, joining six other musicians including Leonard Cohen and Loretta Lynn who received Grammy awards for lifetime achievement.
But Michael Jackson's family did not attend the ceremony at the Wilshire Ebell Theater, despite speculation that some of his children might accept the award on his behalf.
Instead, Jackson's former manager, Frank DiLeo, did the honors, describing Michael Jackson as:
“A funny guy, he had a sense of humor like none of you ever knew."

WE ARE THE WORLD’ REMAKE FOR HAITI
We Are the World, the 1985 all-star anthem that raised funds for famine victims in Africa, will be re-recorded Monday (1st February) in Los Angeles with a fresh batch of artists.
"We'll have three times as many people as we did the first time," says Quincy Jones, who returns as producer. Plans were already underway to mark the song's 25th anniversary, but the Haiti earthquake created an urgency and vital purpose. Proceeds will benefit relief efforts there.
Helping those in need "is why we did it in the first place, so why not do it now?" says Jones, who predicts the new version will have as much reach and fundraising success as its predecessor. "I have confidence, always. I'm so excited."
Lionel Richie, who co-wrote the song with Michael Jackson, will coach singers at Henson Recording Studios (formerly A&M) in the same studio where the original was taped. Music director/composer Rickey Minor is on board, and the project will be filmed. Jones says no participating artists will be identified until Monday.
"I'm planning to be there," Smokey Robinson revealed Saturday. "It's a wonderful idea, not only because it's needed, but as a tribute to Michael Jackson."
The song, he said, "will hold up forever."
