Drummer Ricky Lawson suffers stroke

Grammy Award-winning composer and drummer Ricky Lawson has been hospitalised after suffering a stroke. The percussionist, who has worked with the likes of Michael Jackson, Phil Collins and Earth, Wind & Fire, was reportedly in the middle of a weekend (14-15Dec13) concert in the U.S. when he collapsed. Further details about Lawson's condition were unavailable as WENN went to press, but singer Sheryl Crow has since sent her best wishes to Lawson via Twitter.com. Taking to her blog on Monday (16Dec13), she writes, "Sending prayers to Ricky Lawson after suffering a stroke. Wonderful drummer, beautiful person. We're all saying a prayer for you."

I can still hear MJ yelling, "Ricky, Ricky, Ricky!!", when introducing the band members.

I wish him very well on Ricky's recovery. He did really awesome on the drums for Michael especially the Bad Groove Interlude he did which is awesome.

What the heck man, maybe it's just the evolution of getting older that is hitting me but it feels like in Michaels camp one by one someone is getting or has gotten ill. I am saddened to hear this and hope he rebounds quickly.

Hope he's ok and gets well. His pounding drum beats are the first thing you hear after the keyboard on WSS on The Bad Tour to really set the tone. Brilliant musician.

Noooo Ricky! That's terrible. Hope he makes a full recovery.

Can't tell you how many times I've watched his live solos. Wish more were available to view. Such a great drummer.
