Heartbreak Hotel appreciation thread

"Heartbreak Hotel" is amazing. The funk is just, overwhelming, and the best part is the guitar solo, adds that nice tough of power. It sounds best on the Bad Tour, with the massive call and response "Hee-Hees", just takes it through the roof.

"Triumph" and "Destiny" are probably more essential than.... "Michael" and "Xscape. Actually, they definitely are, but aside from those, they're as essential as any other album he made. They're the most fascinating releases by far.

Funny that all those masterminds could never create a decent album without MJ.

Jermaine actually tried at least. The same year his brothers made "Triumph", he got with Stevie Wonder to make "Let's Get Serious".

But uh. Meh. Meh.

Meh.

I love the piano from The Jackson's Live Album

I love how they kept Greg's piece to segue into Shes Out Of My Life. The first real theatrical section Michael has ever done on stage I think, connecting the two songs together.

Another thing is that this can almost be considered a Michael Jackson song- listening to the background vocals its 80-90% Michael (much the same as State of Shock on Victory.
I agree with this, HH & SoS are the most MJ-ish songs that are kinda lost on a Jacksons album.

Both songs never had a chance to shine on a solo album; I wish the Decade album had been released in 1989.

Their inclusion on "The Ultimate Collection" always felt like validation for me (y)

I just aw who OP was, I don't remember starting this thread - glad I did!

Still far and away my favourite Jacksons song, even though I consider it an MJ song in my head.

Everyone points to Off the Wall as the start of MJ as a generational talent, but I honestly think “Heartbreak Hotel” was the first inkling that we were seeing something we’d never seen before. I can’t think of another song like this one. Completely unique, with one of his best bass lines and outstanding production.

The harmonies, the sound effects, the changes during the bridge. It's bloody fantastic, I always rank it among the top MJ compositions and songs full stop. What's more, the live performances completely elevated the song with the energy, choreography etc. When did we hear lyrics like this again? Sefra and Sue!

We came to this place, where the vicious dwell
Found that wicked women run this strange hotel
There was Sefra and Sue, every girl that I knew
And my baby said, "Love is through" (Uh!)

When I think of "Michael Jackson Live", this top everything for me.

The energy, the vocals, the dancing. It's all absolutely nuclear. It just looks so natural.
