Hello all,

I'm Alex from Germany and I've joined this forum in July, because I felt the need to be closer to other fans. I used to be on a German forum a couple of years ago, but i forgot my login data...

I'm now 27 years old and have been following Michael on and off for about 20 years. I grew up in the former GDR and 'Thriller' was on of the few records of artists from outside the GDR that my parents owned. I loved everything about it. That smooth cover photo, the melodies and grooves and his voice of course. I always begged my parents to put it on, because I was not allowed to do so on my own. I especially needed it whenever I was ill and wasn't allowed to leave the sofa. 'Thriller' always helped me bear my illness more patiently...

My next contact with Michael was when my grandmother gave me the Dangerous MC for Christmas 1992 or 93. I listened to it nonstop and it brought me great comfort when my mum went from hospital to hospital due to a serious illness which lasted for many years.

My mum also loves Michael very much and in the following MJ related events always were an opportunity to do something together with her when she was not in hospital. Those events are some of the strongest memories from that time for me.. like watching MJs first performance of Earth Song on 'Wetten dass' or counting the days until the first broadcast of 'Ghosts' on German TV. Billie Jean was the first song I learned to play when I picked up thee guitar.
Unfortunately I lost track of MJ for a time after 'Blood is on the Dancefloor', because my adolescence was not a piece of cake and I escaped into much angrier styles of music.

I listened to 'Invincible' some time after it's release, but I wasn't mature enough for that album at the time and I still had some 'finding' myself' to do to be able to listen to more positive music again.

My anger over the trials and his media presence brought me back. I wish I could have seen him live just once. I was still too young during 'History' and now it will never happen :(

After June 25th I felt the need to read what others felt and wrote to cope... and just reading many of the comments on here helped a lot.

I'm a bit sad that there seem to be two fronts here at the moment... those who logged in before or after June 25th. I'm sure Michael wouldn't have wanted this and I wish the join date could be taken away from the avatar at least...

I kind of have the same history as you have.
I was too young to see him perform with the Dangerous and HIStory tour and now I feel so bad that it will never even happen.

About the 2 fronts I know what you mean but it doesn't apply to all the members I must say.

Willkommen :)

I have a similar history... just that I couldn't go to michaels concert because it was sold out (history) but besides I know for sure that my mother wouldnt had let me go alone there, because I wanted to go though in hope to get a chance to attend... to cut a long story short: welcome on mjjc :)
