I guess I am not surprised though after all his affairs, divorces and desperation to stay relevent on DRY IDOL he needs some attention!!
I will never forget how he took credit for "WE ARE THE WORLD" because he wanted that royalty money off of MICHAEL'S WORK, he did nothing but what Q told him to do and you know damn well he went directly to Q behind Michael's back to make sure he gets his name on the credits, like Michael ever needed HIS help ever, dumb Q no faith, but as always Michael did all the work why wouldn't he take the opportunity thanks Q! And he still has Michael's name in his mouth!!!!! Where is Will Smith now when someone truly needs a SLAP into reality!

He better watch his senile ass mouth, just saying, he may have needed the spolight so badly that he had to use Michael's name to get it!!

"Speaking to students at Loyola Marymount University’s School of Film & TV on April 8, Jones recalled meeting Jackson as a 12-year-old and then getting to know him on the 1978 movie The Wiz. Later, “I used to call Michael ‘Smelly,’ because he wouldn’t say ‘funky.’ He’d say ‘smelly jelly.’ "

DUH!!!

This part make me sad ..
He shares that when Jackson was traveling he couldn't simply send his clothes out to be cleaned because, quite often, his belongings wouldn't be returned.

"Everybody kept something for a souvenir," writes Richie.

First off, according to the person who gave him the nickname it had nothing to do with his hygiene, so let's not re-write history:

Secondly, what kind of friend would say something like that in a book for the whole world to read? There are plenty of people who talked about how good Michael smelled, so just because he had a bad day where he couldn't change clothes doesn't mean you have to humiliate him for it in front of the whole world.

I mean, I don't mind the part where he explains that it was not always possible for him to change clothes because of his special circumstances, but he didn't have to say that he smelled bad. That's the kind of things you can keep to yourself out of respect.

DUH!!!
Sometimes I think Quincy just wanted to mellow the real meaning out... it's pretty straightforward, "Smelly."

I thought it was because of MJ's supposed knack for hearing (or "smelling") a good melody.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was really because of how much MJ supposedly stank, and Quincy just made the other explanation up, but you'd think Quincy would be the one to say this, not Lionel Richie.

Maybe there are multiple meanings to what "Smelly" meant, I dunno. We'll never know for sure now that both MJ and Quincy have passed on.
