"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

I dare to disagree! The MSG shows had many of the young generation superstars performing his songs to show respect for him. If included it might connect well to the young generations of today.
We all know Michael was in the business for decades, other artists have always paid tribute to him in one way or another, it's not important looking at the bigger picture.

There doesn't need to be a Beyonce cameo from the MSG show to connect to a younger audience, Michael's songs are already timeless and well received from many different generations.

The likes of selling out Wembley 7 times on the same tour is an iconic moment, the MSG shows are not, the only memorable thing is that it happened just before 9/11

Michael was also not at his best performance wise or appearance, there's no need to include it. That 2001 period is irrelevant.

Michael Prince claims the film ends before the HIStory album/tour.

Considering he is probably involved in the music like he was for This Is It, I would consider him to be a very reliable source.
If I'm honest I wouldn't be surprised and it probably makes sense.

My biggest concern since Jaafar's casting has been, how is he going to portray a 50 year old version of his uncle? He's nearly 25 years younger and God knows how much make up/special effects they'd need, would it look ridiculous?

I suppose we'll see when the first trailer comes out. Most of what we've seen has been pre 1985 though

We've already seen Jaafar as Michael during the Dangerous era in the only official picture.

and what about the 30th anniversary show? It ain't not groundbreaking moment in MJ's career , it's not a Motown25 or a Superbowl moment as an example.

There would be no reason to include it.
9/11 happened just after the second show so I think they should include it. They could show Michael hearing about it and what he did that day.

MJ's life serious event started from 1984.. Pepsi, Beatles Catalogue, DiLeo departure, Sony deal, 1993 Allegations, Liza Marie, Children birth, 1999 accident, 2001 failed promo for Invincible..2003 allegations, .... what I mean by serious event is that there's a lot to write as a story for this events.. I doubt they will give this events the importance it need

But why? What would be the point?

In terms of the plot, what value does that add to the movie? It doesn't make sense.

The abuse he received from his father as a child, the constant rehearsals and not having a normal childhood, fame as a child, growing up through Motown and then solo success, Thriller, Motown, moonwalk etc , pepsi burn, 93 allegations- these are all important moments in his life.

The 30th anniversary concert is not. This is a movie, there will be a story to be told, not a Wikipedia filled biography detailing every single event.

We know, but do the young ones know? The ones who will go to the cinema to accompany their parents or even their grandparents? They may have heard stories, but it wouldn't harm to get visually reminded.

Yeah but the 30th anniversary concert was in 2001, it's now 2024.

Beyonce, JT, Usher etc all are in their 40's now, they're not exactly still hip for the kids, Beyonce is obviously still pretty relevant, the point I'm making is that a lot of their fans are probably in their 20's, 30's and 40's themselves. They will know a lot about MJ.

It would be different if it was a current superstar, aka Taylor Swift to help bring in the audience.

Michael was arguably the most famous man on the planet and certainly the biggest star for decades, the man has enough pulling power to bring in the crowd on his own.

It could be a dramatic moment in the movie. He had a successful concert with his brothers and his family was watching and then the attacks happen next morning. It would be big shift from something happy to something sad. It also ended up being his last proper concert.

Ending before the HIStory era makes perfect sense if they plan on splitting his life's story into two movies.

They would have said it was two films when it was first announced if there was going to be another coming.
They wouldn't talk about a sequel before the first one comes out. It wouldn't be wise to announce it before seeing the box office results. There are often plans for more behind the scenes just in case a movie does well.

This film will do what it needs to do. If they felt they needed two films to tell his story then it would have been announced as such.

I don't see them announcing a film that covers the trial etc if this one doesn't. I don't think the demand for that will exist after this one releases.

I just see this as "the moment" if that makes sense.

wait wait. what happened in '99?
"At the Munich concert, while performing "Earth Song", the middle section of the bridge collapsed after ascending into the air.[3] Jackson climbed out of the pit that the mechanism landed in, and continued the song without missing a beat. The guitarist Slash was front and center on the main stage at the time: he also continued his performance without missing a beat, while dashing upstage to safety. Jackson finished the concert, but was taken to the Rechts der Isar Hospital afterwards. He suffered a damaged spine, a sprained ankle, shock nerves and slight burns on his arms. None of the fans, crew or backup performers were injured. The crash was confirmed to be a mechanical failure from the crane, according to Kenny Ortega, director of the shows.

The same stunt had been performed without the incident at the first concert in Seoul."

OH I KNEW THAT. I'M SO DUMB. Thank you. I just didn't know it happen in 1999. THANK YOU!

Judging by online comments on articles about the biopic it seems there will be quite some backlash because of the pedophilia cases. This proves my point that it is very important that the movie narrative will tackle the allegations and make it avery important plot. The Estate isn’t afraid of controversy and is ready to start the debate of guilty/ not guilty I hope.

That would make a stronger film tbh. A narrative about a falsely accused man sounds way more interesting to watch than just a pop star who as good as he was, just kinda keeps going. MJ's controversy really does make him more impactful. The people who have it for him as some evil master manipulator though, are crooked.

Last month, Lionsgate’s panel at the CinemaCon ended with a surprise look at the biopic and King revealed (via The Hollywood Reporter) that it will have over 30 songs in it. He also stated that the film will be quite long. As for the controversies that Jackson was involved in, King’s words prove that the biopic will focus on every major thing that happened in his life.

He said,

Behind the unrelenting scrutiny and the accusations and the blinding media spotlight, he was simply a man. A man who lived a very complicated life. The movie will get into all of it.

Depending on how much David Michael Frank knows and registered about Michael’s intentions with classical music I hope the Estate contacted him to maybe use an MJ composed classical piece as part of the film soundtrack.
David has all the notes. Only thing that was left to do was for MJ to sign on a budget for the orchestra, then those pieces would've been created. Otherwise though they can still be done exactly the way MJ wanted them to be made. Using those songs as the film score is an excellent idea (and would save the estate some money, who would be a better composer for the movie than MJ himself lol). I truly hope they don't pass on that opportunity.
