"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

I like Beltranos optimism - but:
2 Billion is absolutely unrealistic.
It definitely won’t happen, you can bet money on that.
This is even a maybe for Spider-Man & the new Avengers movies coming this year..

On the other hand, becoming the highest grossing musical biopic (bohemian rhapsody - 910 Million) or the highest grossing biopic in general (Oppenheimer - 975 Million) is very much in play. As such, becoming a billion dollar movie, is also a not too unrealistic possibility.

But therefore everything needs to click: marketing, critics, word of mouth AND especially - fans showing up, drumming up & hyping up the movie BEFORE it’s release AND when the movie is in cinemas.

Another take:

The Michael movie cost 155 million to produce. If you ad marketing the bill will probably be at or around 200 million in costs.

Therefore it’s break-even point will be at 350 to 400 million dollars. Then it will be profitable and if it’s profitable it’s not a flop.
Profitability is the first huge step!
If it makes 600 million it’s a success.
Anything above is a huge success.
If it makes a billion one could say that MJ did it once again - MICHAELMANIA like!

(I know I‘m only talking about financial success here. If the movie will be a great piece of art or in the pantheon of movie history will be a whole different story.)

All those beat it scenes that we’ve seen look so plastic and fake looking.

It’s odd because the Motown 25 stuff looks really authentic, including the end snippet we got today.
But it's so jarring because Anthony actually looks like a real human standing beside a plastic model! It's like makeup is being done by Mattel.

On social media I saw a clip of Marlon saying that they had to rewrite half of the movie so he doesn't know exactly what happens. Its somewhere in this interview:

Edit: At 11:16.
So this pretty much puts petrol on the fire of all the stories that circulated about significant re-writes to the story. It really is a shame we won't get what they set out to film (if true, but the writing is clearly on the wall now), because everyone surrounded by the film seemed so enthusiastic during filming and after shooting had completed. There's still loads of enthusiasm obviously, but I do feel there was the slightest shift.

What I've learned in life is that all the rumors about Michael have a grain of truth to them (except Child…), even back then with the Michael release album… the fans usually have this ridiculous wishful thinking that these rumors aren't true. I also said from the beginning that it was true about the shoot and the script changes.
