I think the promotion has been a bit of a joke, yes. The social media spots have been great, and there's been a few TV commercials during The Grammys etc but it's not really been that impressive, and I've personally seen a lot more promo for Mario.

I wonder if they are kind of "sparse" with the promo to fuel the anticipation / excitement for the movie just like Michael did with his music and shows. It was a hallmark of MJ to be mysterious and make himself rare No, honestly, maybe this is all a PR strategy ...

I think the moment the mario movie has dropped, Universal will go ahead with the promo for Michael. Mario is their main focus now of course, but once it’s out I expect the promo for Michael to really ramp up.

Many might disagree with me, but I think one of the reasons is that they decided to split the movie into two parts, so they can’t use all the most "hyped" moments of Michael’s life at once. According to rumors, Smooth Criminal will only appear in the second part. But Michael’s character from that video is one of the most recognizable and iconic in his entire career, and they aren't using it because it won't be in this film. The same goes for The Way You Make Me Feel, Black or White, They Don't Care About Us, and so on... They wanted to generate hype for the movie using Thriller, the best-selling album ever, but in the end, they just limited themselves! What an irony

I‘ve seen not a single poster or mention of Mario, I even forgot that movie exists, but Michael is everywhere here and everyone knows about it

That's because Mario is coming out in a couple of days, Michael is coming out in more than 20 days.

Last time I checked, Michael won't be having any of those.

A scene with a nine year old kid getting grounded by his dad doesn't warrant a screen that's 127 feet wide.

No. But the concert recreations do. The video recreations. Any of the performance scenes. But then again, it's not Michael, it's only Jafaar. I do hope they will take out a page out of Elvis and after this movie bring the Victory tour to the cinemas.

I have a feeling this is going to be a very paint by the numbers biopic. Still interested to see it, but I highly doubt it will touch things like The Jacksons Variety Show, the Destiny album/tour (sans maybe a brief snippet of BIOTB) the Triumph Tour, ET Storybook, Michael’s early solo albums (aside from a quick mention) or even Captain EO.

The movie is only 2 hours long. What do you expect them to do??

The movie was split because of the settlement, it’s not subjective but a fact.
