I'm starting now to get the hang of the way the Michael Jackson re-releases are working. Although at first the schedule of releases just looks like a random sample of hit back catalogue, there is indeed a logic to them. Consequently this week we skip over 'Man In The Mirror' owing to the fact that a ) it was a relative flop and B ) didn't really have a proper video as such, just cut together stock footage of starving children. Instead we move on to 'Dirty Diana' which was first released in July 1988 as the fifth single from the 'Bad' album and as a herald to the arrival of his world tour on these shores. As such the video itself is little more than concert footage, albeit performed especially for the single and so eminently watchable. 'Dirty Diana' itself was to 'Bad' as 'Beat It' was to 'Thriller', the token rock track, the guitars this time performed by Billy Idol's guitarist Steve Stevens. Originally a Number 4 hit, the dualdisc release limps into the Top 20 as is par for the course for these reissues.

Here is our second update from the global chart positions of Visionary - The Video Singles.
More exciting news from Spain where so far EVERY single has charted at No.1 with the exception of Don't Stop which charted No.2. All singles are also holding strong in the charts and Michael Jackson dominates the current Top 10 with singles at No.1, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 9!
France has now also launched the project with the simultaneous release of the first 5 titles which all debut in or around the Top 10 end of last month with Billie Jean at No.4, Beat It at No.5, Bad at No.8, Don't Stop at No.10 and Rock With You at No.11. Since then The Way You Make Me Feel has also charted at No.13 and the collectors box including Thriller even reached No.4!
Italy launched the third batch of singles this week with Bad, The Way You Make Me Feel and Dirty Diana. The radio campaign runs every Friday before release and supports the ongoing contests surrounding the releases. All singles have reached a Top 20 chart position and the same is expected when the new results come in for new releases next week.
All singles have also achieved a Top 20 chart position in the UK with the latest addition of Bad at No.16, The Way You Make Me Feel at No.17 and Dirty Diana also at No.17.
Ireland continues to debut every single in the Top 20 as well.
In the Netherlands there is also new chart entries at No.24 for The Way You Make Me Feel this week and No.27 for Bad last week.
Australia adds some more chart entries. Beat It reached No.66, Bad No.91 and The Way You Make Me Feel enters at No.109.
Germany is planning to refocus on another radio track to kick off the second half of the campaign. Heal The World has been a very popular track locally or Black Or White is in discussion for which will be 'single11' launching the second half of the Visionary Project at the end of this month.
