Anyway, I still don't quite see what the fuss is all about. The Discovery Channel is a respectable channel that usually makes good and reliable documentaries. Sure, it could be seen as an invasion of privacy but imo it's slightly hypocritical to argue this considering the autopsy report is all over the internet and has been widely discussed on this forum (e.g. the coroner's report thread has over a hundred pages). Besides, the Discovery Channel airs documentaries about the deaths of non-famous people all the time (like "The FBI Files"), at least in my country, and I don't hear anyone complaining about that. In my opinion, the invasion of privacy starts with the publication of the autopsy report and not when some channel decides to pick it up. I strongly disapprove of publishing medical records (which an autopsy report basicly is) of anyone, unless the deceased or his/her family explicitly wish so. I can't believe this is apparently common practice in the United States. But since it is and most people (including myself, admittedly) are too curious not to read it, we already know what is in the report anyway. That is, the people who are interested enough in Michael Jackson to go through all those pages. However, the general public is not that aware and will take its information about MJ's medical condition from the mainstream and tabloid media, which is more often than not incorrect or incomplete. Therefore, I think such an in-depth analysis of MJ's autopsy report by medical experts may be positive, as it will hopefully clear up some misconceptions (like whether he really had Vitiligo or not, which will be confirmed in this documentary as implied by the press reports). I will wait and see what the documentary is like before I get upset. Hopefully someone will upload it on YouTube.

No, but I wouldn't want my dead relative's autopsy report to be published in the first place. That is the real invasion of privacy here. But since it has been out over a year and every major news outlet has reported about it (often incorrectly and/or incompletely), I don't see the real harm in making a more serious documentary about it with medical experts explaining the often complicated medical information of the autopsy report. I would be interested in hearing this and I'm sure most fans are, considering the fact that the coroner's report thread has over a hundred pages. Apparently, it is no problem when fans disect the autopsy report online but when a TV channel does it, it is all of the sudden an "invasion of privacy". That is the hypocricy I'm refering to. Plus, there are loads of documentaries about the murders of non-famous people that contain (sometimes graphic) autopsy details (like the FBI Files show I previously mentioned) yet I see nobody being enraged about that. How is this any different? And are you honestly surprised that some channel would air a documentary about the cause of death of the most famous human being that ever lived? I'm just glad it's done by the Discovery Channel rather than a tabloid-like show. Who knows, maybe a casual viewer's perception of Michael changes when he/she hears medical experts confirm that Michael indeed had Vitiligo, Lupus and was in a relatively healthy condition when he died.

If it was published it DOES NOT mean that it has to be a part of the show and somebody has to capitalize on it. A possibility of this show based on unhealthy public interest to his body because it is Michael Jackson and he was "weirdo and freak". Sure folks will watch it why not? Plus this show scheduled for January. It is not an accident. It was PLANNED. Besides Discovery invited MJ doctor and it could be an idiot Klein etc who will more than happy to say nonsense about MJ private stuff.

There is nothing insane about what I wrote. You completely missed my point. Let me spell it out for you (as these sentences seem to get you upset the most):

Whether the news is positive or negative, the media will always make money off of him as the first category caters to fans and the second one to haters. Most media outlets are commercial enterprises, meaning their main purpose is to make money. Seeing as celebrity, human suffering and sports are what the general public is most interested in, news stories relating to them dominate the news. Again, interest = sales = money, and this is what drives most news papers, magazines and TV channels. Now, seeing as MJ fulfills not only the celebrity interest, but also the human suffering interest (i.e. people who may not necessarily be interested in him as an artist but are curious about his life and death) makes it even more appealing for the news to report about him. Therefore, I expected a documentary like this to be aired some day anyway and I am glad it's the Discovery Channel and not some sleazy tabloid show. My point is, the media will always capitalize on MJ, whether they report good or bad news, true or false, somebody is making money. If you do not want this to happen, then the only alternative is that the media do not report about MJ ever again and just forget about him. Is that really what you want? This place would get awfully boring after a while when no news whatsoever comes in.

If the media completely ignores him for the next 30 years, it will do great damage to his legacy. You cannot be the "King of Pop" when nobody apart from hardcore fans talks about you. Look at Elvis or the Beatles, do you think they would have had anywhere near the legacy they had now if they had lived (literally or figuratively) until they're 80+ and slowly faded out, not being able to perform in the last 20 years or so of their life, suffering from dementia, losing their "good looks" and sex appeal? I personally don't think so. A great part of their legacy has to do with people being fascinated by something they can no longer attain, superstars dying/quitting when they are young and still hugely successful. Like the saying goes: "You don't know what you got till it's gone". Before Elvis died, the media mocked him for his weight and drug addiction. Right after he died, he became the media's darling and never stopped being one (and this is meant with no disrespect to Elvis). But Elvis and the Beatles would not be so widely considered to be legends (even by people who have never heard their music) if the media didn't constantly remind us all that they are. Michael needs this kind of exposure too. I would get really worried if no media outlet finds him worthy or air time anymore. The fact that he is still talked about 1.5 years after he died is a tribute to his status.

As for your comment that I should arrange to get my own autopsy on TV in order not to be forgotten - do you honestly not see how ridiculous that sounds? First, I already clearly stated multiple times that I do not agree with autopsy reports being published in any way, as this is a severe invasion of privacy. But in the USA, this is apparently legal and common practice, so there is nothing we can do about it. Every major news outlet has already reported on it and anyone with an internet connection has access to it, so I don't see the harm in making a (most likely) balanced and informative documentary about it. For those who do not want to watch it because it's too hard and emotional for them to learn this kind of information, that is fine, I understand that. But don't attack it on the basis of "invasion of privacy" when you are apparently OK with publishing the AR online and disecting it on a fan forum. Second, you cannot possibly compare my situation to MJ's. No media will spend any time reporting on my death (unless it's a really tragic one), let alone document my autopsy. "The world" does not know me and will therefore not be affected by my death, meaning it is not profitable for news outlets to report on it. I hope I don't need to explain the contrast to MJ here.

Airing this documentary is simply disrespectful and dehumanizing to Michael. Somewhere along the line people have lost their integrity and are more interested in seeking ratings verses being cognizant on what this can do to Michael's children. Why do we not do the same with others who have left this earth? Why do people feel it's acceptable to dehumanize Michael in this way? Regardless if people are interested in how an autopsy works or not, this is not the way to obtain that knowledge. We all know that some information may be withheld in the interest of ratings. There is already an autopsy report, what is the point of this? There are other ways for people to seek information on how an autopsy is done; perhaps research can be done using official medical sources. That would be the way to go, not a TV so-called documentary. We have come to the point in this world, where it's acceptable to air and discuss people's personal business. Everyone has their opinion and that is fine; however, I ask that we all take a step back and realize what is happening here. This is just simply wrong on so many levels. How about they create a documentary on Michael's true legacy; what he gave us from an artistic, humanitarian and philanthropic perspective. That is his legacy and when his children grow up, they can see how people respected their father. That is what we should be focusing on now. Michael and his children deserve this.

There were news on Twitter yesterday that the estate is aware of the situation and Weintzman together with Branca are looking into it.
I really hope they can intervene and stop it. If this program airs there could be obstruction of justice, reference of criminal evidence, or predisposition of a jury.
Freedom of the press here is in direct collision course with posthumous preservation of Michael's dignity and juridicial procedures which will determine the guilt of the man who took his life. As I understand this, it's conflict with public interest.

We need to step up the effort. Since it is in the UK where the program will be aired on four different days, we are asking everybody to now direct their letters and emails to the addresses below in earnest. Autopsy Re-enactment scheduled Discovery UK January 13, 14, 16, 17, 2011.

Michael Jackson's Estate has recently advised that their team of lawyers after discussions with UK lawyers regarding the autopsy programs, were told there were insufficient legal grounds to stop Discovery from airing the planned mock autopsy of Michael Jackson.

You can block the Discovery channel via your parental controls feature on your cable or dish network. It's important that you let Discovery know that you have done so. With that said, simply using parental controls to block Discovery does NOT send a notification or signal to Discovery that this blocking has occurred, which is why you should let them know.

If you can remove it from your package, that will even be better. Place a call to your provider and request that the channel be removed. Discovery will know when this takes place. If they are not able to remove it, please ask them to note that you made this request to have it removed and tell them why.

All emails must bcc mjj@innocent.com to build a compiled package which will be sent via FedEx to Discovery in early January 2011.

Also, it has been determined that the Estate has no legal recourse against the program but perhaps the Los Angeles District Attorney might be able to speak to UK authorities and request them to intervene. It’s worth a shot.

Michael Jackson Estate Co-Executors Urge Discovery Communications CEO To Cancel Autopsy 'Reenactment'

In response to media and other inquiries, the Estate of Michael Jackson disclosed the attached letter was sent today to David M. Zaslav, president and chief executive officer of Discovery Communications Inc., regarding an upcoming program purporting to "reenact" Michael Jackson's autopsy.

EVEN though the autopsy shows no signs on a drug addict or unhealthy Michael, I never wanted it shown anyways.

But now the estate is speaking up on this.....hmmm....this is very interesting......I wonder what light the autopsy gives on Michael. Because it's clear as day that the autopsy does not support murray's claims, and will not help with his defense......that's the reason I believe the estate is now speaking up.

I agree with you.

If they didn't want Michael's autopsy to be public they shouldn't have released the report on the internet.

Dr. Klien's documentary about that alleged MJ boyfriend has no basis whatsoever as there's no proof Michael had a relationship with that man.

However, this one is based on facts released by the authorities. A fact, not tabloid BS.

Anyway, I still don't quite see what the fuss is all about. The Discovery Channel is a respectable channel that usually makes good and reliable documentaries. Sure, it could be seen as an invasion of privacy but imo it's slightly hypocritical to argue this considering the autopsy report is all over the internet and has been widely discussed on this forum (e.g. the coroner's report thread has over a hundred pages). Besides, the Discovery Channel airs documentaries about the deaths of non-famous people all the time (like "The FBI Files"), at least in my country, and I don't hear anyone complaining about that. In my opinion, the invasion of privacy starts with the publication of the autopsy report and not when some channel decides to pick it up. I strongly disapprove of publishing medical records (which an autopsy report basicly is) of anyone, unless the deceased or his/her family explicitly wish so. I can't believe this is apparently common practice in the United States. But since it is and most people (including myself, admittedly) are too curious not to read it, we already know what is in the report anyway. That is, the people who are interested enough in Michael Jackson to go through all those pages. However, the general public is not that aware and will take its information about MJ's medical condition from the mainstream and tabloid media, which is more often than not incorrect or incomplete. Therefore, I think such an in-depth analysis of MJ's autopsy report by medical experts may be positive, as it will hopefully clear up some misconceptions (like whether he really had Vitiligo or not, which will be confirmed in this documentary as implied by the press reports). I will wait and see what the documentary is like before I get upset. Hopefully someone will upload it on YouTube.

Oh, and the comparison to nazis is utterly ridiculous. What, so I'm a nazi now because I am interested in how autopsies work and would like to know the real cause of death of my idol? :lol:

Btw. how many times do I hear fans on this board say "according to the autopsy report...", "the autopsy report confirms...", "...just check the autopsy report!" etc. when they are arguing with someone? Basically, they are not only admitting to having read the autopsy report but are urging others to do the same. That is no invasion of privacy? Are they nazis too?

Agreed, thanks for this. Michael's life has been picked apart by the fans and media alike, just sifting through these threads is a good indication of how much his life is out on display and debated. It only stands to reason that this would eventually show up on TV, if they didn't want the details exposed, it wouldn't have been released. This very forum wouldn't exist if it were only about the music, don't agree with me, just go down the list of threads that are about his personal life as opposed to his music. Like it or not, the name Michael Jackson was a commodity in life, so naturally it would be in death also.
People will watch this and perhaps be educated in the process, just like they watch CSI and all the other shows where death & DNA are involved, celebrity deaths fascinate people, need I mention another famous murder & trial that had millions glued to their tv's, when they had nothing to gain by it's outcome but they sure learned more about DNA than they ever wanted to. Good or bad, it's human nature.
This is just a preview of things to come - if & when the trial happens this information is going to be all over the airwaves again, the media will be relentless in reporting all the details, just like they did on '05.

As fans, we now need to reinforce what the Estate has done, by coherently, elegantly and powerfully making ourselves heard. Below is an updated message on what we are asking everyone to do.

1.) Express Your disgust in emails, calls and letters.

In the US, UK, and other countries around the world, people are writing, emailing and calling Discovery as often as they can ( preferably daily).

We need thousands of people, the like of which has never been seen, to call the numbers contained within the above link. We are advising fans to prepare a written statement before they call so that they can express themselves clearly to the operator they reach -- or the recorded message they are directed to. People can then leave that message at Discovery's Viewer Relations phone line in the US, the customer service department in the UK, and the phone-line of Lucy Radciffe --- the senior assistant to Nicolas Bonard -- head of Discovery UK. That link also contains the email addresses of key Discovery executives and the email address of Dr Hunter who will be 'performing' the mock autopsy.

2.) Block Discovery from their Cable viewing selection - and make sure Discovery know you have done so.

By calling their cable providers and requesting that the Discovery channel is removed or blocked from their TV line-up, and also blocking Dscovery by using the parental controls feature on their Cable or Dish set-up --- and making sure Discovery know they have done this -- fans can easily but effectively put their protest to Discovery -- into action.

The most important point is this: -- by making that call to your cable provider and asking that a log be made of their request for the removal of the Discovery Channel from their package, and also informing your provider that you have blocked Discovery from their channel selection -- you will send a loud and clear message to Discovery.

Simply blocking Discovery does not send a digital or automatic signal to them. It is when fans actually call their cable providers, then call Discovery, and send an email to Discovery's on-site complaints link -- that Discovery are immediately alerted that there is a serious problem -- and one that won't go away.

3.) Help build a 'Discovery Protest Package.'

All fans are asked to send a copy of the emails they send to Discovery executives ( you can simply cc all of them in one email) to mjj@innocent.com. You can do this simply by bcc'ing the mjj@innocent address so it is invisible to the Discovery executives you email.

We are asking for this so that those emails can be added to a physical package that will be sent via Federal Express to Discovery in early January 2011. The deadline for the FedEx package is December 31, 2011 -- but we NEED everyone to still CONTINUE emailing after this date.

Discovery cancels Michael Jackson autopsy TV show

The Discovery Channel television network has said it will not air a re-enactment of Michael Jackson's autopsy, amid concerns the programme was distasteful.

Executors for the late star's estate had requested the programme - entitled Michael Jackson's Autopsy: What Really Killed Michael Jackson - be cancelled.

John Branca and John McClain had said the show was "in shockingly bad taste".

Discovery said an upcoming court hearing was also a factor.

"Given the commencement of legal proceedings beginning next week, and at the request of Michael Jackson's estate, the scheduled broadcast of the medical documentary related to Michael Jackson's official autopsy has been postponed indefinitely," Discovery Networks International said in a statement.

Mr Branca and Mr McClain said they were pleased with the network's decision.

In a letter previously sent to Discovery, the pair had accused the company of being motivated by "blind desire" to exploit the singer's death.

"Your decision to even schedule this programme is in shockingly bad taste and insensitive to Michael's family," the co-executors wrote.

The programme was scheduled to be aired in Europe on 13 January.

An advertisement used to promote the show reportedly depicted a body covered by a sheet with one hand wearing the singer's trademark sequined glove visible.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled to begin on 4 January where it will be decided if there is sufficient evidence to try Jackson's physician, Dr Conrad Murray, on involuntary manslaughter charges.

Dr Murray has repeatedly denied causing Jackson's death.

The singer died suddenly in June of 2009 from a prescription drug overdose at age 50, weeks before beginning a set of concerts.
