Philadelphia, Pa (WOGL) – Michael Jackson’s Facebook page ranked in the top pages followed last month…four years after his death.

InsideFacebook reported that MJ’s fan page received over 72,000 likes a day in the month of September, putting the page at No.11 on the 25 Most Liked Facebook Pages.

Ahead of MJ on the list is The Simpsons, Coca Cola, Rihanna, and Eminem. Facebook for Every Phone took the No.1 spot, followed by Facebook at No.2 and Youtube failing in at No.3

MJ still holds the title for the King of Pop and, as the most influential person in Pop music history, it’s no surprise that he is social media royalty as well.

Awesome. MJ has 63 million followers on FB. Only some current artist has more (like the above mentioned Rihanna or Eminem), but even most current artists are behind MJ!

Beatles 36 million
Elvis 9 million
Beyoncé 50 million
Madonna 13 million
Lady Gaga 59 million
Justin Bieber 57 million
Justin Timberlake 26 million
Adele 48 million
Jay-Z 18 million
Pink Floyd 25 million

Actually I think Eminem and Rihanna are the only music artists ahead of Michael. I checked out some other major artists:

Lady Gaga 59 millió
Justin Bieber 57 millió
Beyoncé 50 millió
Adele 48 millió
Taylor Swift 47 millió
Bruno Mars 40 millió
Beatles 36 millió
Metallica 32 millió
Britney Spears 30 millió
Justin Timberlake 26 millió
AC/DC 26 millió
Pink Floyd 25 millió
Guns N’ Roses 24 millió
Red Hot Chilli Peppers 24 millió
Bon Jovi 23 millió
Nirvana 23 millió
Queen 22 millió
Jay-Z 18 millió
Rolling Stones 15 millió
U2 15 millió
Madonna 13 millió
Celine Dion 13 millió
Mariah Carey 13 millió
2 Pac 11 millió
Led Zeppelin 10 millió
Elvis Presley 9 millió
Backstreet Boys 9 millió
Whitney Houston 8 millió

They are maintaining his page very well IMO by keeping it active - almost every day they are posting something, a quote, a picture, promoting something etc. which keeps the interest (and the likes). While for example Whitney's page (only 8 million followers) is not very active - they rarely posting anything, only when there's something to promote and that's rare. So I'm glad his page is being taken care of well.

That's awesome, I just wish Mike could beat Shakira, Eminem and Rihanna. How can they have more likes if they aren't nearly as influential and iconic as The King is. That's just wrong.

JB and Gaga having more likes than The Beatles and Queen is also wrong.

They are current artists, they have more things going on, it's natural that they get more action/attention. (BTW, the Shakira FB is full of spammers. A lot of the messages aren't even related to Shakira, but people promoting their other websites, posting news articles (not related to Shakira) etc.) Plus those FB pages are used by the star to communicate with the world personally. Imagine if MJ was alive and wrote to his FB personally!

I think it's great that MJ is up there and that's what we should focus on.

That’s good to hear! Michael does really well on the Billboard social 50 chart too - this week he’s #13! He’s been in the top 30 every week this year, which is incredible especially considering that he’s at a disadvantage compared to the current artist who are active on Twitter and who release new singles and videos.

Michael Jackson Takes To Instagram, Surges on Social 50 Chart

The King of Pop makes a big leap on the Social 50 as his social media channels celebrate the anniversary of his birthday.

Michael Jackson makes a 14-position leap on Billboard’s Social 50 chart (27-13), following online activity surrounding the anniversary of his birthday on Thursday, Aug. 29, and the launch of his Instagram account.

The Social 50 ranks the most popular artists on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter, SoundCloud, Wikipedia, Myspace and Instagram. The chart’s methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist page views, song plays and reactions as measured by music analytics company Next Big Sound.

Promoted across Jackson’s various social media channels, an interactive social media campaign instructed fans and followers to “spread the message of unity, harmony and hope for a better world.” That message was to be delivered by uploading an Instagram video to “honor Michael Jackson on his birthday by sharing your idea for making the world a better place.”

By using the hashtag #MJWeAreOne, a tag named after Jackson’s Cirque Du Soleil show “Michael Jackson One,” participants are able to see their videos displayed on a microsite which also doubled as a promotional board for the Cirque show.

The resulting engagement stirred a 109% rise in weekly conversation about Jackson on Facebook, which led to the addition of 493,000 new fans on the platform (an 80% increase over the previous week). The campaign also marked the launch of Jackson’s official Instagram account, which gained 2,900 followers during the charting week....
