MJJCs Official Daily Poems & Reflections Thread

You are one of my favorite poets Dimity :) it's really special to hear you compliment me on mine. Thank you. I feel like a broken record saying how I like your poems so I don't always say it, but I do feel it.

Awww. :blush:
Thanks for making the print darker on your poem Ape. I can read it better now.

I loooooove your poetry Ape! It is awesome! I'm having trouble reading some of the verses in "The Absinthe of sleep" though, because the colours are too pale. Can you darken them please? It's a cool poem! You're so clever. So is "A Fire in the Sky". I love how you play with words. It's so unconstrained and creative. I wish that I could take a big dose of that and let it permeate my being.

Here's a little thing, so totally not like your lovely poems--coming from a different place:

Forward

Leave it behind
Moving along
Look straight ahead
Strengthen my heart
Know who I am
Create what I will
Take what I can
Give what I’ve got
Love without fear
Hold to the truth
Focus

(Sound familiar Friend?) (((HUG)))

:) (hugs) back... i'm happy to read it. ty for posting :flowers:

Just a little something a came up with last night, The sky was full of stars and I made a few wishes :)

As I lay upon my bed I gaze out into the night sky
I find a star to wish on, to make a wish for you
Gathering my thoughts to find the right words to say
gently I bow my head and silently begin to pray
I pray the lord to keep you safe and sheltered from all harm
ask of him to hold and guide you with your hand held gently in his palm
whisper him my desires, The ones I dream of for you
to dry away any shedded tears that fall and keep them for morning dew
I pray he shines a ray of light making happiness glow in your heart
This one wish I hope lasts forever and longing it to never part
I look upon this wishing star that's shining so clear and bright
and thank the lord above for listening to my wish I made for you tonight.

These two images here stood out strongly for me. They are beautiful and gentle. Very sweet Lorraine :) I'm glad you shared it with all of us.

Because it is that "special day"--June 13, I am going to post a bunch of the poems that I have written about Michael over the years:

Gratitude

I know that you have heard this
A million times before
But I feel compelled to tell you
From deep within my core
This yearning struggles in me
It’s begging to be free
This yearning is my gratitude
For all you’ve been to me

Your magic just ignites me
Your music fills my soul
And there’s something happens in me
That’s dying to be told
Oh how can I contain it
When life creates the vibe
That lifts us from the mire of doubt
And urges us to strive?

Heaven’s re-born inside of me
Each time I hear your voice
When the glow expands within me
I really have no choice
Must let it find expression
My joy to find its form
‘Cause your beauty has an image
- Your love in others born

Since the first day that we met
- Your music’s gift and me…
A dormant spark awoke, and now
It’s glowing steadily
Like a stone dropped in a pond
The ripples spread afar
Ten thousand songs are your art’s child
Offspring to bless your heart

Although my thanks are Heaven bound
Along the way they’ll pause
Salute you for your wondrous gift
And crown you with applause
No telling if you’ll ever hear
My gratitude dear friend
I’m praying that the love you gave
Will bless you in the end

Where We Meet Him

Michael is there
His love a constant force
Reaching out to humanity
And yet received personally
We feel him
We feel his pain
We bask in his joy
We hear him call
In his music
In his dance
He beckons us and we come
In droves we come
To be with him
In his music
In each other as we know
Without needing to explain
That we feel his love
Michael is there
And we are comforted
The healing balm of his music
Spreading over us
The thrill of his raw energy
Empowering us
The whisper of his friendship
Including us
The tenderness of his touch
Embracing us
His unwavering belief
Encouraging us
Michael is there
Where we meet him
Inside our need
Inside our pain
Within our joy
Acknowledging our weakness
And our strength
A mentor but not a judge
Our "baby"
Our friend
Michael is there
And we love him.

The Shore Of Your Love

How many shipwrecked souls have been rescued
Upon the shore of your love,
Your guiding light—a beacon showing safe passage
Through the perilous seas of life
The illumination of compassion, tolerance, perseverance and forgiveness
Giving hope and direction to lonely hearts, lost and afraid—
Souls ravaged by persistent troubles, swamped by waves of remorse
Escaping the jagged barbs of abuse
Inundated with responsibilities.
And there you stand, raised up high for all to see
Giving courage to the faint-hearted
Inspiring awe in the adventurous
Your light shines in the darkness
Exposed to the tempest of an angry world
You are whipped by the winds of ridicule
Slashed by the merciless debris of gossip
Drenched with grief and sorrows
And yet you stand strong
Feet firmly grounded and eyes set towards heaven
You reflect the Source of your power

Though clouds so often gather to obscure your light
You glow ever brighter against the darkness
For the darkness cannot overcome the light
And those who find themselves upon the shore of your love
Are refreshed—their energies renewed
Prepared to face another journey.
Resting in the glow of your comfort
Their tears of gratitude bathe your feet
Their kisses warm your hands
Their perfume allays your loneliness
Their touch heals your wounds
Words of encouragement fortify your heart
Stories of adventures transport you beyond your lonely hill
The embers of their love join with God's fire
To keep aglow your passion for life—
The beacon that shines out upon all who pass
Upon all who take refuge on the shore of your love.

I know Ive been a bad member. Forsook you guys and I'm sorry. So here's compensation of poems for not being around. lol
____________

If I was your best friend

If I was your best friend
We would talk all the time
If I was your best friend
I'd always ask you for a dime
hoplol.gif

If I was your best friend
We'd call each other on the phone
If I was your best friend
You'd never say "I'm alone."

If I was your best friend
We'd take each other too the mall
If I was your best friend
Together we slide down the halls

If I was your best friend
I cry to you when I'm feeling blue
If I was your best friend
You'd cry on my shoulder too

If I was your best friend
Our love we would never lend
If I was your best friend
We'd be friends forever...till the end

~~~~~~~~~~~
I Got Through the Pain
I got through how you left me
Feeling shameful and dirty
I got through what I thought was love
Passion...it was none of the above
I got through the nights I longed for you next to me
The times when I just needed a friend
I got through the lies, fakes...
I'm around that bend
Dropped me like hot potato
Fooling around with me every chance you got
Like I was a computer game you always won
Boy, you got through me
But I'm through and over you
I got through the stormy rain
I got through the pain
I now I begin life without you
All over again
~~~~~~~~~~~

I want to fall in Love with you Again

Dear dream guy
Whoever you are
I want you to be my shining star
To be the one that I know best
Who'd put my trust to the test

Oh lover of my soul
I want to be the only one you hold
A Promise of forever on your lips
I want to be your first true kiss

Dear handsome and charming man
I'll be the one to hold your hand
The sunshine of that friendship we'd share
To hold you to my heart so dear

Oh one who's chosen just for me
Please come, oh come and set me free
This is my prayer that in this life
You'd be the one, till the end of time

~~~~~~~~
He's out of my Life
You no longer speak to me
I thought that we were friends
You no longer respond to me
I never knew that this could end
But it has
It hurts my soul to the core
For all the joys and sorrows we bore
How could you do this now?
You break my heart
We’re no longer lovers
And now you wish to leave me forever
Alone in this pit of darkness
I thought you could fill this void I had deep inside
I thought your heart was a place my love could hide
But now I know you were just playing me
There are a lot of things, now I can see
There is better out there, I can tell you that
Perhaps you’ll never marry her because she’s a rat
One who’s not committed like I would have been
Okay then, I’ll play your game
Let’s see who wins
___________
I Love all the poems I've been reading! :agree:Missed everyone!:wub:
Yay! It's Tess (((HUG))) Good to see you again. Thanks for sharing your poems. We missed you too.
Beauty Competition
There’s not much that’s more beautiful
Than bare tree branches
Silhouetted against the moon
Unless it’s a pine tree
Next to an old shed, with a white door
At the end of an empty paddock
Glowing in the night shadows
Or perhaps my house—
The blinds blinking, half closed
Against the dreamy blue light,
Moonbeams seductively lingering and beckoning
To the sedentary world
“Come away with me!”
Oh all right
A baby’s smile is a beautiful thing
And a pink rose, mid-bloom, sparkling with dewdrops
Or a lover—undressed
And I’d be remiss not to mention
The amber-violet sunset
Or a view of the sea from a sun-lit meadow
Still…
There’s not much that’s more beautiful
Than my house bathed in moonlight…
beautiful poem Dimity. here's some more of mine.
Star, speak to me
wind, rush through my hair
cold on the nape of my neck
I want to be home
smelling pine trees
when the dawn rises
like watercolor pinks and peaches
all running together on the great
canvas of the sky
I want my back to warm in the sun
to feel life beckon at me
so star, speak to me
love, bloom at my feet
carry me through the prairie roses
on to my true home
I wrote this when I was having a particularly bad day at school last year:
Somebody watches me pass by
though they see my suffering eyes
they sense I'm hurting and confused
but only stop to look and muse
we're all pretending day by day
this loneliness is okay
alone here in our separate spheres
brushing near but still apart
our deepest songs still hide within
doubt makes mice of all of us
timid and afraid
why don't we realize that each new day
is one more toward the grave
we're too afraid
to put it all on the line
when what we really need
is to make a change that isn't safe
the change that our hearts cry for
we're too afraid to drown in love
rejection isn't that bad
too afraid to bare our souls
it might mean a little pain
but I'm tired of loneliness
of gray days and being so cold
of lacking companions in thought
so try to care a little bit
and I'll do my part too
spread a little love around
and next time you see me
walking by you all alone
I know you'll smile instead
weary
blurry
my lips are
chapped
my face is pale
white as the snow
that I have hardly stepped
outside to see
not like when I was young
but those flights of passion
bursts of joy
have abandoned me
my heart feels barren
I wish a spring would come
I used to say that winter
had its hour too
but tears uncried
build up behind my eyes
if only I could cry
their warmth would surely
melt this neverending ice
splashes
of color still remain
here and there
the way he looked at me
the way the
flowers of that passage read
and sometimes
a cold white star
still catches my eye
through the closed blinds
in the blackness of the night
Through Doubt
I dream of
butterfly spirals
clear blue skies
flower oceans
I dream of wrapping myself
in strands of stars
of romance
dark roses fresh with dew
Oh, I dream
but I dream and doubt
because I see a splash of love,
but I'm without
shadowed clouds
burst into mist that becomes
an icy rain
spinning round through
shards of ice
shout to me
take me there
to echoing glades
to deep wet caves
where our laughter will
ring out
the mirror frowns
my heart's too proud
to show you that I
hurt so much
peel back my
cloak of sorrow
let my too-heavy heart
burst free
circling winds
feather on air
blinding joy
doubts waiting
on the ground
while we spin
and dance on clouds
but for now
the window is my world
the sky is gray
fog lies 'cross the hills
because I dream
and you're still far away
Oh, I dream
but I dream and doubt
Spring roses
shiver off their ice
and smile at the sun
I've been confused
but the ground is warm
and dewy with summer rain
I am guided
by your glowing presence
I feel that even if I shut my eyes
the sun is so bright
I would still find my way
there are castles in the clouds
the world is growing
my senses had withered
but now my eyes are the
wondering eyes of a child
my heart merry
in this world there is only play and love
and secret pools of joy
hidden everywhere in plain sight
I am alone sometimes
but when you forget
all the things that they said matter
and realize the truth
well, then you'll be
right here with me
we'll climb a tree
dance in liquid sunshine
just you and me
because
it's spring now
and I think I've
finally learned the way
back to
me
Thank you so much for posting your poems WritergirlAD. I LOVE them all! You are a wonderful poet!
Same and yours too Dimity, I have been wanting to reply but I am not always sure what to write. There were particular ones I wanted to really comment on. I think it might be time we could have a little separate section for art and poetry and stories so we could comment more.. what do you think? Or no...
that would be nice...i would like to post some short stories but they are pretty long and it would feel a bit awkward posting them here..i don't know :shrug:
Ummm [scratches head]. Well, this is the special thread for posting poems and stories, and I believe that there is another section for posting art in a different forum, so, I'm wondering what you mean Ape? Can you explain a bit more? Is it that you feel reluctant to respond to others' poems in more detail in case your comments might be taken as criticism? Or perhaps you'd like to discuss how a poem has touched you in some very personal way, but you wonder if that is not appropriate here? (Just trying to figure out what you are looking for.) I can imagine some poems eliciting a long discussion about some aspect of life and that would be fun to pursue. I don't see any reason why that couldn't take place in this thread? That might come under "reflections" inspired by a particular poem. I've done that from time to time. It is true that we poets often post things that are deep and meaningful to us, and sometimes we are more concerned with expressing ourselves than with technical details. I don't think that people are looking to be critiqued in terms of their poetic skills (as happens in other poetry forums), however, I imagine that most people would be pleased to know how others relate to what they have written--whether it touched anyone or amused them, and I think that those sort of comments are appropriate in this thread. Sometimes, when one is deeply touched but does not want to comment publicly, then a private exchange through PMs might be more appropriate.
I LOVE this thread. I think we have some truly brilliant poets in our forum, and I am so often blown away by what people share. I've been inspired to try new ways of writing by other poets here.
Anyway, please elaborate on your proposal Ape. I'm curious...
Here's something I wrote today... Hehe
The Bubble
A bubble is a marvellous thing
Iridescence surfacing
Popping up into the air
Floating on the currents there
Rainbow brilliance, coloured sphere
Glistening bauble, rising clear
Pause a moment, watch its course
Moving further from its source
Dishes washed, left there to dry
The tiny bubble floating high
Drifting up towards the door
Breathless, beauty, held in awe
Wishing it would never stop
Wondering when the orb will pop
Brief delight at nature’s call
Disappeared into the wall
no no not critiquing. I think there are enough poetry forums for that who are highly critical and probably why I haven't written anything since visiting them. Some poems I think could probably get some interesting conversations going and could deserve their own thread but I am reluctant to do that in one thread. Often times forums have a section dedicated to poetry (and art and stories) and people post a poem in it's own thread. Maybe this is better. I just enjoyed the old one I used to go to.
I might post a poem later on in here.. oh also in here I wanted to comment on a poem but now it is burried so harder to bring it up.. I loved your Michael ones.. and the one after that.
lol your bubble one was cute! I could imagine it and followed the bubbles journey in my imagination :)
Oh, I see what you mean. I'd never thought of that.
We did have something similar on MJJforum, although it was designated "Messages to Michael" and it ended up being more like a poetry forum, with so many of the messages to him being in poetic forms. Then folk would duck into each thread, read the message/poem and comment on it.
I can see that re-finding a particular poem on this thread can be difficult, and it is hard to have an on-going discussion about any particular poem unless it happens all at once. I wonder if the mods would consider it too "off topic' to have an entire forum dedicated to poetry, stories and art?
I like the community feeling to this thread though. I can imagine, if we all post our poems as individual threads it might be disheartening to some if they are viewed less or commented on less than others, whereas when all of the poems are posted in the same thread, we always have the opportunity to view everyone's poems, and not single anyone out. It's kind of like an open invitation to share. It just doesn't lend itself well to on-going discussion. On MJJF I tried posting short essays on topics that interested me in one of the general sections, and for the most part they were ignored.
A Poetry Forum is an interesting idea though Ape. :) What do our other poets think?
Actually what you say about it being disheartening if there weren't the views etc. and the community feel. This is nice. OK :) You sold me. I haven't been around here that long this time around. I also missed the thread before it got deleted too. I heard that happened. :( too bad.
I was too tired to write a poem last night and probably will be again today..
Awww--I hope that you recover your energy again soon Ape. (((hug))).
How about me throwing in something a bit bizarre and controversial? I'm up for a meaty discussion, if you are Ape (and anyone else who might care to join in...) Here is another poem that I wrote yesterday... It arises from what I've been learning in my life over the past year. It may seem a bit strange, but I invite you to think about it and comment on what you think it means. Although it is personal, I think that it has universal relevance. I will happily add an explanation later, but for now I'll just 'throw it out there.' :)
Yin and Yang
Come Yin and Yang
Come sit beside me
One to the left
And one to the right of me
The one so boisterous
The other subdued
Lend me your wisdom
Virtue and vice
Two ends of a spectrum
Where does the balance fit?
You’re not black and white
But a thousand shades of grey
What seems good at a glance
May turn sour in extreme
The best becomes worst
When the scale is tipped.
Imagination
Is a wondrous thing
But see, Yin and Yang
It can get out of hand
Delusions of grandeur
Distractions sublime
Or paranoid fears
Prowl the edges of the mind
Hold my hands Yin and Yang
Keep me centred in ‘now’
Looking forward in hope
And wide eyed with wonder
Feet planted in the real
Arms outstretched
To what might be
Sanely balanced
Between Earth and Heaven
So, what about Caution
Where should I sit?
Closer to Yin, or closer to Yang?
In the centre you say?
But I feel insecure
Let me slide towards Yin
Let me check if it’s right
I won’t waste time
And it won’t cost a lot
It looks safer here
Well-worn, familiar spot
‘Take a risk’ Yang cajoles
Lighten up, let it go
Don’t worry so much
Live it up, stay out late
Have a drink, laugh out loud
Who cares about calories?
Don’t check the locks
Throw out the junk
You don’t need it you know
And what about Honesty?
Is it always a virtue?
How does it stretch
Between Yin and Yang?
I’m real as can be
Too real Yin says
I don’t care to know you that well
Don’t dump all your sorrows
And share all your joys
Don’t outline your foibles
And detail your day
So how do you feel Yang?
Oh, you’re not going to say?
It’s private
And who can you trust?
You know what I think
You know how I feel
My vulnerability is an affront.
And here is a corker—Patience!
You’d think it could never go wrong
Long-suffering says Yang
Is sacrifice sweet
Upon the alter
Of unconditional love.
Yet patience, says Yin
Gives cowardice a break
A chance to avoid all the strife
And indulgence enables
The selfish to reign
What then, does patience gain?
One more question I’ll ponder
Please give me advice
At least Yang might lend me an ear
Generosity
To give without counting
How tainted this virtue might be
Can one be too generous I wonder?
Can one spoil the greedy with love?
And those who give freely to others
Might indulge themselves just as much
Excusing their errors
And pampering their weakness
No discipline staving their need
Yin is too busy to answer
He’s stuffing his face with a bun
Dear Yang, I’m so glad you indulge me
This discussion has really been fun.
Keep holding my hands
(Yin—You’re sticky!)
Don’t let me slide hither and yon
No matter how lovely the virtue
I see it can twist into ‘wrong’
So let me find balance between you
Step back from the cloud of my need
And see all my motives more clearly
Act wisely
And not in extremes
Lost
I, a stranger in a land of wonderment, no longer can I find my way
Wading through trials, a burden to mankind
Survival fragile through this storm of confusion, no longer will calmness invade.
In This land of Woe, Life slips with each delicate second
This state of mind lie stationed in mournful graveyards
I am lost in self denial, drowning in the falsehood of misconception.
I cry for my savior, when moments brew to turmoil
He is who I turn to, when depression, hatred, devastation erupts
God weeps as I shed tears, withered within, I have given up
placed on this earth with the purpose of happiness,
Now I stand lost in this desert of impaired devastation
I am lost in war, the blood shed of every man
The fearful life threatened cry of every child
The mourning of every citizen losing a part of themselves.
I am lost in war, the lost battle for freedom, we all drown in power.
I am lost in this land He placed me here
Surviving through the lakes of fire
created at the extent of Mans creation
We destroy our home, watching fire burn for miles
when moments burn thin, we become lost
wishing for what could have been
now our home lies beyond repair
I am lost in power, to control beyond my understanding
to Abuse authority, persuade the unwilling
to be elected to lead, by a sea of lies, and broken promises
Decision unclear, but proceeded carelessly.
I am lost in death, the mocking darkness engulfing unsuspecting minds
the shadow of death pursuing its next causality
robbed of life, the valley of death fearful
yet lost in prayer the valley has passed
I submerge in paradise.
My body warn from this battle of a worldly war
Lost in all things distracting to Mans impressionable eyes.
Wading through Jordan, those thin pages laced in fine print; a guideline
gripping its cover its pages embody instruction.
I, a stranger in a land of wonderment, no longer can I find my way
God help me, find me.
Scared, Michael held her, and said, "Anige?, don't do this to me, Angie.Wake up."Angie opened her eyes, looked up at Michael, and said, "This is the best day of my life."She died in Michael's arms.Michael met the man who gave Angie HIV, Michael beat him with in inch of his life,and warned him that if he ever tried to harm any of his fans, he'd kill him.Angie got Justice, Michael did too..but, he didn't get to tell Angie just how many he really loved her.For Angie was the woman who loved Michael...In loving Memery of Angie M. This was FUN! and reminds me of a poem I wrote as well though really not similar at all other than a similar spirit. Balance.... so hard to attain and keep up! Maybe it isn't so much about sitting, balanced perfectly between the two. Maybe it is about dancing with them; a step here, a jump there. I enjoyed this though. Sorry it has been taking me a while to reply to them lately.
