Generally, they had a very good relationship.

John Branca was the singer’s right-hand man for many years until his death in 2009.

John Branca arranged and oversaw many of the singer’s important releases, interviews and performances, and also the purchase of the ATV Catalogue and the Neverland Ranch.

Michael Jackson was the best man at John Branca’s first wedding in 1987.

In 2002, Michael Jackson named John Branca as the co-executor of his will.

There was also some tension during those years: Michael Jackson fired John Branca two times (due to certain legal disputes and misunderstandings), in 1990 and in 2003, only to re-hire him later.

Michael Jackson also asked John Branca in 2009 to help him for his ‘This Is It’ London comeback shows, and the manager willingly offered to help him.

They were also seen on certain days discussing creative and business matters backstage during the ‘This Is It’ rehearsals.

These handwritten notes that surfaced which were allegedly written and signed in 2009 by Michael Jackson (including the ones referring to John Branca and Sony) proved to be all of them fake.

Stuff like this has made me wonder why there's so much Branca hate in the MJ fandom at large. I mean Branca was a close friend of Michael's and an ally near the end. He might not be doing super popular things or things that the fanbase wants, but he is a business insider and I think he's done a fine job with the other people/groups he's represented (The Beach Boys, Aerosmith, Bee Gees). Also I think it's a great thing that he's been willing to slowly step aside recently and let Prince possibly take the reins -- it shows that he's got Michael's legacy in mind.
 
Yes I agree, if there was any malice no way would John step aside and let his children start to make the decisions on the legacy that is Michael Jackson.

i dont believe this guy at all his other predictions especially bout beyonce makes zero sense and hes all over the place with other artists,knowing what drake and bey gonna do is nearly impossible if hes not on their teams and hes not bc he does mj predictions and i saw bryson tiller there and rihanna,at best he works at a music label but all these artist arent signed to the same label sooooo...in conclusion hes just throwing shit out hoping something sticks and generates him clout,much less believable than the other account that started this thread.
and lets not throw the chris brown collab to the air cause i dont need to hear anymore autotuned artists on a mj song i let drake pass cause i love him but no one else can get that pass haha
he also made an hilarious prediction that chris brown gonna be on brunos new album which is so far fetched i cant even......

Just wanted to post it in case one of the "predictions" come true. Just saw that he/she says that he/she's not an insider or a leaker, didn't notice that at first. Thought he/she had sources for those predictions.

A lot of the hate comes from these annoying top MJ fans on Twitter and YouTube who have a massive platform and they can easily manipulate the others fans.

I can't say I'm very knowledgeable on who's hot and who's not in the music industry or that I'm up to date on everybody's careers, but isn't Chris Brown already a fairly controversial figure for being a domestic abuser? If the Estate wants to start off on the right foot and distance themselves from abuse claims then a collab with Chris Brown probably isn't the way to go. It'd be like if in 2016 the Estate dropped a posthumous duet with R. Kelly -- like do you want to never sell another record again?

I mean it's possible that the "Chris Brown collab" thing was just something they heard through the pipeline as a possibility from their work at some record label, when in reality the MJ team isn't seriously considering it but just throwing it out there. Like so many others here, I think if any new posthumous duets were to be done, Abel Tesfaye is the way to go. He's currently a hot item on the market given his new album and a recent Super Bowl performance, by his own admission takes a lot of influence from MJ, and is obviously a huge fan. Chris Brown might've been a good idea in say, 2007, but I don't think he's as huge as he was anymore.

I mean yeah, that's shitty, but the Estate will never admit to such a stupid mistake. I mean how inept do they have to be to make that huge of a blunder on their first project post-TII? I understand why Branca and the legal team have been so weaselly about this, but that doesn't mean I excuse it. While it would be nice if they'd made an announcement admitting to this error (and hell, maybe something like that would happen once Prince takes charge) and rereleased Michael without the fake tracks, the Estate has nothing if not a collectively inflated ego, which would prevent them from ever doing that under the current leadership. Like I said, I understand it, but I don't excuse it.

Did we also forget that Branca oversaw the biggest-selling concert documentary of all time, gave Sony one of their best-selling albums of 2014, appointed and assisted the legal team that successfully fought off Robson and Safechuck (and is currently taking HBO to church), and cleared out the nearly $400 million of debt MJ left behind in 2-3 years?

As for the fan civil suit, of COURSE the Estate is gonna fight it. Do you have any idea how bad it would be if they came out and said, “Yeah, the songs are fake”? Not justifying it, because those songs shouldn’t have been released in the first place. But the idea that a multi-billion dollar corporation is gonna put themselves in harm’s way (legally) is laughable.

Branca has f**ked up many times, but goddamn, the Cascio situation has become one of the most annoying things to me. Damien Shields posted incessantly about it and, while I gather that it’s an issue that needs to be remedied eventually, it is by no means the most important thing at hand.

This is why I say that the best case scenario for straightening this out would be for Prince to unequivocally denounce the songs as frauds once he inevitably takes over -- this would set him apart as bringing in a new era for the MJ Estate as a long-term legacy sort of thing (a la the Elvis Estate), while also giving him the opportunity to chalk up the issue as a sin of the past leadership, and that he's bringing in a clean slate.

the public is over the chris brown thing,his sales are really good and he had multiple hits since and also had another song with Rihanna(which was the person who got hit from chris) after the case.
anyways i dont like any male singer other than bruno to be featured on mj's stuff or maybe rappers like jay z but thats just my opinion

Willingly? Releasing Cascio tracks was a massive blunder on the part of the Estate, but I doubt they did it willingly. Michael was a close friend of the Cascios for the last 15 years of his life and even stayed at their house for a short time in 2007. The estate didn’t have any reason to doubt the Cascios and their tracks, considering Michael’s close relationship with the family. People blame estate for the fake tracks but I hardly hear any criticism for the Cascios who turned out to yet another backstabbing family.

are any of the family members involved in this other than the brother? i mean i dont think its fair to blame the entire family if they had nothing really to do with it but i dont know for sure

Thanks for the info. I wouldn't mind a Jay-Z posthumous collaboration, since him and MJ both admired each other's work and wanted to make music together -- I know they did work together a few times, namely Michael did backing vocals on "Girls, Girls, Girls" and Jay-Z did an actually solid remix of "You Rock My World". Maybe he could do something like that on an Invincible 20 rerelease, I could see him doing justice to "Threatened".

It makes me sad more than angry actually. Like these were people he trusted, Eddie was a close ally of MJ near the end and turned on him immediately after he died. I hope he regrets it now, but at this point it's too late. And it really sucks for me because the 12 fakes weren't even bad songs, some of them would've gone fine on a tribute album. But they've put a scar on Michael's legacy forever now.

Literally everyone who was played the tracks said that they weren't comfortable saying it was him. They even held a meeting where they played people who had worked with MJ the vocals and the consensus was that it wasn't him. The estate had plenty of warning signs and could have easily not released them if they actually cared.

I completely agree with your statement here, and also the fact he has sold so many items.. a couple of which I nearly wholeheartedly doubt their authenticity. The Estate can't be 100% solely to blame, neither can Teddy Riley. They were both given material to work with. Cascio clearly had money at the forefront of his mind, but The Estate should have questioned the vocals at the very least.. considering no alternate takes, studio chat, pictures etc.
