Since we are celebrating 25 years of Bad, I think it's really about time the USA gets Moonwalker on DVD and Blu-Ray. I know it's possible to buy from other countries, but we need a proper release for us!

Yeah, I wish they would release it in the US, this time un-censored, unlike the UK version. And they should work on the colors during Man In The Mirror and Come Together. The colors look amazing during Smooth Criminal, but I swear there's a part during Man In The Mirror where his tongue looks orange, and his skin tone looks really weird. They should also add the original making of, plus new never-seen-before behind the scenes footage, for those of us who have already bought the UK version.

I was thinking about that a few months back! This WOULD be a perfect time to release Moonwalker in the theaters and on DVD/Blu-Ray finally in the US. Of course, if they did, they would probably wait until next year where they can celebrate the 25th anniversary of Moonwalker, since it did come out in '88. I hope they do bring it out into the theaters though.

It's totally not time to release Dangerous in Blu Ray. It's not Dangerous 25.

But they totally should have done a limited theater run for Moonwalker. Or re-release on video.

I'd be ok with that. But I more so want to see the original arcade port of the game (NOT Genesis), on xbox live!! To see all these old-classics ported over and to not release that along with this promotion is a crying shame in my eyes. I think it would actually hold up as opposed to the Simpons' game, which i felt was best kept as an arcade only title upon playing it on live.

Who holds the rights in US?

And in the vhs Michaels tongue was yellow. The colors on the blu are fine.

What is the problem with UK version, can't you watch? And didn't understand; this Warner company from US right? Why did they release in Europe?

And I've a VCD version of moonwalker, bought so long time ago. has better sound than DVD & BluRay. Weird!?

I got the Hong Kong edition of Moonwalker on bluray. It works on all players (I personally just have a PS3 for playing blurays). :) Only thing is, they cut out the part where Michael says "do it and you're dead" and I love that part! So, if they did release it in the U.S. I might just buy it again if they keep it uncensored.

Hm ... as far as I remember from other posts on the subject (I dont have the dvd, for reasons that follow) the PAL dvd - due to the speed-up from 24 to 25 fps - has a slightly too high pitch, i.e. Michael's voice is distorted and the songs play (noticeably) too fast. Can anyone confirm this? Don't have Blu-Ray, so I would really like an NTSC dvd.

Yes, the dvd is speeded up.
I don:t remember moonwalker been officially on dvd anywhere beside europe.

It is legaly released in the U.S., a smaller company got the rights of the Hong Kong edition and released it on the U.S. market. You can buy it at a few movie places and rent it in select movie rental stores.. It is released more so as a foriegn release, but still technically released..

For that it really minimizes the potential of a larger release if Sony wanted to.. Kinda sucks, but for the U.S. fans you can buy it..

Ain't this just a bootleg?

Moonwalker is an intrigal part of the whole Bad era. It should have had an official release in the U.S.

Oh, I'm not saying I don't have it.
But it should have a proper U.S. release n such.
I got the blu-ray 720p rip. Uh-Mazing quality.

Why on earth they cut that part I wonder... :)

It's weird reading about stuff later as an adult about stuff when you were a kid.
I had no idea Moonwalker wasn't released theatrically in the U.S.
It came out on video at the end of the Bad era.
I mean, it was a good time to do so, but a limited theatrical run in the states would have been great.

Alls I know is I have fond memories of watching the movie on a betamax tape my parents dubbed onto over and over. I would even re-enact LEAVE ME ALONE with my stuffed animals, taking place of the roller coaster and such :D
They'd cover me with my toys, and I'd sit up like he does at the end. Oh embarrassing memories...

Uncensored? How was the Uk one censored?

Originally it was planned for a US theater release. I remember reading somewhere the reason it didn't get to theaters, but I can't remember the reason!

Wikipedia says this:

"The release of Moonwalker was originally scheduled to coincide with Jackson's 1987 album, Bad. During the theatrical release of Moonwalker, Jackson was also embarking on the Bad world tour, his first tour as a solo performer. The film was released theatrically in Europe and South America, but Warner Bros. canceled plans for a Christmas 1988 theatrical release in the U.S. Moonwalker was released on home video in the United States and Canada on January 10, 1989, just as the Bad tour finished. (His tour was supposed to finish sooner, but had been postponed due to some vocal strain, so it went on until the last week of January 1989.) The video had sold more than 800,000 copies in the U.S. by April 17, 1989."

That doesn't state the reason it was cancelled.
