I remember the main difference between these two versions is the 1982 version has additional vocals and instrumentation, it’s definitely not an overhaul or reworking of the 1979 version.

Yes, that’s correct. The 1982 version was also included on TUC and the canceled OTW special edition from 2001.

It does, they sound almost identical. The only difference I noticed was the 1982 version has a couple of adlibs that are not in the 1979 one.

It’s not. Instrumental and vocal were re-recorded. Originally a live orchestra was used, but Michael didn’t like the way it sounded so everything was redone using MIDI.

Yes, a collector who I’m currently in contact with has played me this, and it really didn’t sound very different. I feel like I’ve already clarified this multiple times.
