Official Charts Thread For ''Michael''

We were just expecting too much!
Would you buy an album if you were not in particulary a fan of MJ when you just know 1 song on the album (hold my hand)? Imagine it for another artist, no, after a single or 3 people are convinced to buy it!

And when an uptempo is released, it will reach much more people ;). The first weeks it are just the die-hard fans...

What i have with some of the older generation artists is that i love their work from back in the 80's or so, U2 for example, but when they release an album now i always think it can't be as good as it was so i don't bother.... People have to be convinced of the quality of an album, Mj last hit was in 2001... Give it time

Another reason can be that some people may feel weird bying a cd from a man that has died so recently.Maybe they feel that Sony is taking advantage of a dead man by trying to gain as much profit as possible. Vision, the Experience, "Michael" ?? I have heard lots of people saying that.

honestly i only care if sales are good enough to put out more mj music everything esle is cake

in germany the album on #3 and HMH #10 now
thats sad :(

This was already posted by me on TUESDAY. ;)

It's not sad, it's actually very good. "Hold My Hand" was already #10 last week, so it didn't drop any place. 3 weeks in the TOP 10 for such a mediocre song and weak choice for a lead single is pretty good under these circumstances.

The album is also doing very well in Germany.

"Michael" is #3 this week in Germany.

"Michael" is very successful in Germany. In its first week it has beaten the band UNHEILIG whose album has spent 21 weeks at #1 now.
In the second week UNHEILIG were back at #1 and "Michael" was #2.
Now in its third week "Michael" dropped to #3 due to a sudden climb by THE BLACK EYED PEAS' album.

Amazing performance so far. UNHEILIG is very popular and gets lots of media coverage whereas "Michael" has little promotion.

havent seen it, sorry.
but i hoped it would stay on #1 one or two weeks longer. instead unheilig kicked Michael from top position

Sony is not a label that is intentionally going to ruin sales of Michael's album. It they feel they would make more money with a lot more promotion, then they would spend it.

It's obvious maybe MJ is making them enough cash without needing to spend a lot, and maybe they feel like more promotion won't increase sales by much. MJ albums after MJ's death didn't have over promotion, but ppl went to music stores and were buying like crazy.

I think Sony looks at it as majority of ppl know about the album. If their going to purchase, then they will or not. In the USA you can't help but know Michael's album is out. Pics of the Michael album are in plain view.

'HMH' still in the UK 'Top 40' charts - at #28 - so not quite the flop some people would have us believe.

"michael" : out of the UK TOP 40 !

well done Sony and well done the fans !!!

"Michael" remains a top seller WORLDWIDE!

IMO: Globally "Michael" is still selling very well so I really hope there will be the 2nd single soon because the album is very potential to sell for a longer time. I hope this chart situation just shows that Sony just doesn't want to promote it yet in the big countries before the 2nd single. Because its chart action is kinda opposite in many minor countries and it's still after 3 weeks #2 on the global album chart.

OMG, you are right. These are really good signs!

Sooo...Can someone tell me how many copies the album has sold ONLY in the USA, as of right now? I'm not asking for a chart position, I'm asking for the number of total units sold since it's release in the USA.
On the other hand, how many total copies has this sold WORLDWIDE as of right now?
Thanks!
(Please provide source if you can)

Still top 20 in France is not too bad at all - especially with such vocal boycott campaigns in that country - just imagine what the album could be doing with the full support of the fans.

Forza Italia, happy for the great success of the album here in italy

After 3 weeks if Sony didn’t make big promotions then I don’t think they will ever do it later, I think 3 weeks is long for a new album to get promoted and since Michael is not available they’ll have to be very creative. Otherwise I am afraid they (Sony) will abandon the album. Without big promotions they simply prove to me that they are just cashing in Michael’s name with a cheap HMH music video and that’s it! Perhaps the ambitions by Michael and his fans doesn’t fit in their business strategies! I guess we have to wait a little longer and see…

Not sure what it's sold worldwide, but I saw in this chart thread that soundscan has the album selling 405,283 in the US so far.

remember only one song and video no real promotion and controversy and still going gold within a month that is a major "W" for MJ's estate.

this album will go platinum i believe but i see him doing well regardless of new projects or not. catelog is gonna sell.

In Norway "Michael" is #6 for the third week in a row. Vision is still #1 on the Music DVD chart.
