Will be interesting to see how well it does

It was inevitable. Prince is coming to Broadway.
The late purple rock star will be the subject of an estate approved musical based on his hit movie, “Purple Rain.” The show will launch in Minneapolis next spring, and then likely come to Broadway in fall 2025.
Two former Prince band members — Bobby Z. and Morris Hayes — will serve as musical advisers. Broadway vet Jason Michael Webb will handle music supervision and orchestrations.
The book is from the author of the current hit “Appropriate,” Tony Award winner and two-time Pulitzer Prize-finalist Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, based on Prince’s original story. (The movie’s screenplay is by Albert Magnoli and William Blinn.) Music and lyrics are by Prince; and direction by Tony Award-nominee Lileana Blain-Cruz.
This year is the 40th anniversary of “Purple Rain” so there will be a big celebration this weekend at Paisley Park. All of these creatives who are working on the musical will appear there for panels and cocktail parties and performances. Check it out on the paisleypark webpage.
The original movie only had 9 songs, so I’m assuming the musical — two hours long at least — will have some other Prince hits like “Little Red Corvette” and “1999.” We’ll see how that develops. But you know the final song, with the obligatory jukebox singalong, will the the title track. (Curtain call song– “Let’s Go Crazy”?)
And who will play Prince? Undoubtedly a newcomer as in the Michael Jackson musical, “MJ.” The music will be the draw!

A six-part documentary series about the life and times of Prince was described as “dead in the water” as the fallout of his 2016 death without a will continued.
A handful of reasons were reported to be behind Netflix dropping the project, including a battle over editorial control with the divided heirs of the musician’s estate.

This sucks. Why wasn't he given his own star when he was alive?
@Fuzball according to the history of this ...and various reports ...he was asked twice during his lifetime and declined.
According to People, Prince had discussed the prospect of a nomination with a Walk of Famer before his death but expressed that he was “not ready” for the honor, as noted by Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez.

Thanks, didn't know that.

Posting as FYI. I believe Brad Sundberg doesn't buy this story about Prince recording a different version of Bad.

By Alex Rigotti 6th August 2024

"Speaking to host Jason Matheson, Sheila E reiterated Prince’s issues with the song, explaining: “So we get the song ‘Bad’ from Michael [Jackson] and we’re here at Paisley [Park]. And Prince is like, ‘Wait a minute.’ He said, ‘Michael wants me to sing this song with him.’ So he played it for us. He goes, ‘Your butt is mine…’

“He said, ‘What?! Your butt is mine?’ And he just walked away, he said, ‘Uh, uh,'”.

She then said she assisted Prince in re-recording the track at his home and studio, recalling his version was “so funky” and “so amazing”: “It was an incredible rendition of what it should’ve been. Then after we recorded it, we’re like, ‘Oh my God, we can’t wait for Michael to hear it.’”

However, Sheila E went on to admit Jackson never heard Prince’s solo version, saying: “He erased the whole thing. Right there.”

She confessed it was common for Prince to immediately erase recordings, saying: “Oh yeah, it was fun. We did that all the time, though. I can name so many songs that we re-recorded that was sent to us. Ah, that’s another show.”
