STOP Sleeping on Mind Is The Magic!

Why would they have done it for free?
Because they were friends with Michael Jackson.
Thanks, just as I expected, do you happen to know how the magic trick was executed? Did they use a mirror? MJ obviously fell down some sort of trap door because in Michael Bush book he states that he and MJ ran underneath the stage paying attention not to hit any beams, MJ must have had the Beat It clothes ready underneath the white coverall that he wore during WDAN.

Any more info would be great, also sorry if I derailed the thread.
He does that as Michael Bush described it in his book.

Michael Jackson slides down a secret/trap door (underneath the stage), he changes his clothes very quickly, and then he gets to the cherry picker for the 'Beat It' performance.

It all has to be done in only 10-12 seconds.

I read somewhere this is one of the songs Bryan Loren wasn't fond of, yet of the songs he produced, it was probably the closest to sounding like what would become the Dangerous album. Ironic really

Funny I found this thread.

I recently discovered Mind Is The Magic borrows a little bit from the score in Captain EO at 8:38 in the movie, when the music starts to kick in. If you slow it down, you essentially get the foundation of Mind Is The Magic. It’s pretty clever actually.

Cool. Wanna post this in my Musical Parallels Thread?

Change the words “Mind Is The Magic” from the title of this thread to “Invincible” and you’ve got yourself a Richard76 thread.

No. Loren has said that Michael wrote it.
Contributed to by Loren.

Edit: …but only production-wise. I’d forgotten about that MJ Cast episode – you’re absolutely right, it’s a Michael Jackson composition through and through.
The song is registered with USCO as "Siegfried & Roy" (PAu001317675).
Written & composed solely by MJ. BL was given credit as co-arranger.

Mind is the Magic is actually a great song, but it could be even better if the lyrics didn't refer to a long-defunct Las Vegas show. Perhaps a demo of the song exists with more universal lyrics.

Maybe (definitely) un-ethical but I think if the chorus and some references to S&R were altered using perfect impersonation/edits/A.I., it might actually work well as a song about magic in general.

So like change the 'Siegfried and Roooyy' into 'Force of the Miiiind' or something, and it's ready to be a hit song :)

Why does the S&R reference bother you? Would you like to change "Al Capone", too?

It's just a corny song for a magic show, but I like it. Maybe my favorite of the songs Loren produced for MJ, but that's not saying much lol

It doesn't really bother me. We were talking about making it more universal and I fantasized if it would be more appealing with more general lyrics.

I wouldn't change 'Al Capone'; that's an universal character. 'Abortion Papers' however.. that one I might also not feel bad about if there was a good way to change some of the lyrics. Maybe only the chorus would be enough to make it less provcative but still strong

MJ did rework "Al Capone" into "Smooth Criminal", which had more general, nonspecific lyrics that didn't refer to a real-life gangster.

Oh really, I didn't know that was the reason to rework it AC! I fully understand it from MJ's perspective; I guess the association with a real-life gangster didn't fit his clean image and message. However for me personally, as non-American, Al Capone feels more like a fictional character tbh; I think it could have worked fine
